Songs That Should Be TV Show Themes

I can never listen to Elvis Costello's "Welcome to the Working Week" or Cat Steven's "Matthew and Son" without imagining the hypothetical sitcoms that would go with them. "Matthew and Son" would be a 70's sitcom, bout a family run business, maybe a tool shop, and "Welcome to the Working Week" would be a Drew Carey-esque 9 to 5'ers anthem.

Also, properly edited, Zappa's "Peaches En Regalia" would be a killer 70's cop show theme.

"Just A Job To Do" by Genesis is about seasoned PI Michael Ironside who gets into one nefarious scrape after another. Only his female assistant, Connie Seleca, can see through his gruff exterior to the gentle soul inside.

"God's Away On Business" by Tom Waits scores the opening credits to HBO's new series "Criminal", which follows the intertwining lives of dirty cops, con-men, drug dealers, and child pornographers

"She's a Beauty" by the Tubes.

Jonathan Silverman stars as Tommy Macintosh. Tommy thinks he has married the girl of his dreams Shelly (Shannon Elizabeth). But the honeymoon is over when Tommy learns Shelly's secret. Her womb is barren.

With Ed Marinaro as Dr. Curuthers.

"Just A Job To Do" by Genesis was the theme to the short lived '85 Miami Vice ripoff The Insiders! I considered whether or not to give No Reply At All to this thread

Coming up next on TGIF, Lou Reed's "Hangin' Around", a wacky sitcom about an uptight black lawyer who's white party animal former college-roommate comes to live with him and his family of four! Starring Richard T. Jones, Doug Benson, and Tim Reid as "Uncle Deon".

That's not a Genesis song...?

"Searching for the Ghost" by the Heartless Bastards.

It'd be great on one of those A&E shows about searching for ghosts.

I guess it just doesn't go In Too Deep.

It's true Bobby, this thread's potential has really gone down, we're really Throwing It All Away.

Maybe the other chewers are in the land of confusion and don't have access to their computer. Some might've been deported; after all, it's no fun being an illegal alien.

Back to the original topic, the Ramones cover of I Don't Wanna Grow Up would make a great theme to a show about Frankie Munez and his irrepressible need for vivisection.

True, many people could be at work right now and not able to access the computers. I guess we're all feeling the Ripples of that fact.

There's nothing wrong with The Golden Girls that a little "Don't Fear the Reaper" wouldn't help.

Too obvious?

I'm surprised that Euphoria's Delirium hasn't been used for something. Better yet, Phil Roy's remix of it, Undeniably Human.

DANCING WITH MR D - The Rolling Stones

Popular comedian Mark Curry portrays inner-city high school dance teacher, Deshawn Bridges, or "Mr D" to his ragtag students. Between dancing, teaching, dealing with neighborhood struggles, Mr. D keeps a humorous, positive outlook on life and provides advice and fun to the many people in his life that he encounters.

Touched by the hand of god- New Order

It would be about a group of ravers who overdose on ecstasy and have adventures in the afterlife

Baker Street - Gene Rafferty

Featuring Ken Olin as Bobby Flourintine, a southern good old boy with a checkered past ready to take on the gritty streets of New Orleans in the late 70s. Featuring Ed O'Neill as the local precinct Captain who doesn't approve, Mykelti Williamson as the Sergeant who does. Jeff Goldblume as the crusading Times-Picayune journalist looking to clean up the city. Holly Robinson Peete as Flourtine's contact in the underworld with Peter Gerety as his local priest. And Peter DeLuise as the local Mafia boss.

This reminds me, some genius actually took the idea behind the Zager & Evans rock travesty "In the Year 2525 (Exordium and Terminus)" and turned it into futuristic TV travesty CLEOPATRA 2525.

Behold the opening credits.

In the year, 2525
THREE WOMEN ON A QUEST TO STAY ALIVE

I actually kind of like the original version of that song ... probably for the Morricone-inspired bits.

Honestly, you have to love a show that so brazenly declares itself a guilty pleasure. And has Gina Torres in hot pants.
