The Original Addams Family Movie: Not released in the UK

I just caught the tail end of Addams Family Values on TV and enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. So I decided I'd try and get a hold of both films on DVD, a rare case of nostalgia dictating a purchase, only to find that a DVD of the original Addams Family film was never released in this country. I can buy Values quite cheaply, but to get The Addams Family I'd have to pay $50 to import it from America.

More than anything I'm interested if there is a reason for it not getting released over here (it rarely appears on TV either) or did it just sort of slip through a releasing black hole as such?

That's strange. I always loved these movies, they were quite subversive back when I was 11. Why it was never in the UK, I dunno. Maybe there were a lot of headbutts and nunchaku.

Gold.

These movies, along with most of MEN IN BLACK, really make me think there's more to Barry Sonnenfeld. Of course, I have to put my hand over the second half of his filmography in order to do this.

Spike, you can pick up a double pack of both movies for $15 shipped to the UK from DeepDiscount.

No idea why the first never found it's way onto dvd, even the original series managed that much. Unlike the sequel the first film was distributed by Columbia outside the US, so I can only imagine it's a rights issue.

Maybe MC Hammer has something to do with this.
