The Joker's Fatality

Of course, the game won't be good, but I thought that was kind of neat.
Jesus. Headshots are ok, but oh, protect the children, we must go bloodless!
It is surprisingly brutal. It goes to show how arbitrary these decisions are. The Joker's fatality is gruesome because it's fairly realistic. But Sub-Zero ripping out someone's spine, a ridiculous bit of cartoonish ultra violence, akin to an Itchy and Scratchy cartoon, is not included because it's too gory. Whatever.
That inspired a few laughs.
The story is complete bullshit, but the dialogue is making me crack up pretty frequently. Wonder Woman just told Sub Zero "Your world must be different than ours! Here we don't kill our friends!" and I lost my shit.

Have to admit that I'm liking the fighting much more than I thought I would, though. Playing through with the DC side (natch), about to play as Green Lantern and fight Lex Luthor. Good moves list and the new fighting sections are pretty fun. Still haven't done a Fatality or Brutality yet, though.
As a DC guy and an occasional dabbler in Mortal Kombat games I was actually considering buying this. Then I came to my senses. I'll get it when it's $19.99 in three months.
They've been premiering "fatalities" in Gametrailers every friday.
I still haven't seen blood...

Lame ass.
I cannot wait for Mortal Kombat Vs DC Universe. How many DC Comics fighting games have been released ever...not many? I pre-ordered the game months ago, and hopefully it will do well enough that there is a DC Comics vs Street Fighter in a few years...if not a sequel to MK/DCU.
Whats weak is that the EU version is apparently uncensored. At least with the Joker fatality that is. If that's true, this is the SNES/Genesis MK debacle all over again.
My guess? They are keeping all the gore out so they can charge you for it as DLC in a month or two.
I've been tempted to go get a Dreamcast from my local Goodwill just to have a playable copy of Marvel v Campcom (and Rival Schools of course). This game is tripe. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I just want a fighting game I can pick up and play a couple hours a week. I don't have time to put hours into learning all the ins and outs of a fighting game. Big dumb fun is all I want. Get back to the 2-D fighters with cool character designs. Like we used to have at the Nickelcade.
This might be the most retarded game I've ever played. It's almost awesome.
Seriously- the dialogue and story are so absofuckinglutely ludicrous that I couldn't help but be entertained. I'd rip it apart in detail, but I'm sure Duke'd get pissed at the spoilers. You see, Ed Boon, comic book characters who know their peers' secret identities do not refer to them by full name. "Superheroes are disappearing all over the planet, such as THE FLASH." Really Wonder Woman? I'm sure Supes would've gotten confused if you didn't say THE Flash. I mean, you could've meant THE Flash, or Flash Gordon, or...

Petty complaint, I know, but it's just the tip of the shitberg. I understand making it accessible, but sweet mother of shit, the amount of exposition and unnecessary detail is on an unprecedented level in gaming. The only people who are going to play this are nerds: either they're pissed that the game exists and want to verify its shittiness, or its blinded nerds who'll buy anything with the Joker in it. Stop acting like everyone's a preschooler. You claimed the story would be great, and tie things together well. It's a goddamned Uwe Boll film. Actually, no. "Postal" had a better plot.

Wow. I suck at life. I'm gonna go talk to a girl and try to get my non-nerd karma back up.

That's the smart route.

I don't know how readily available the little 'Beginnings' comic is -- they shipped one with my review copy -- but it makes the in-game story look like Shakespeare. Staggeringly bad.

"A deafening thunderclap! A blinding yellow flash of light! THESE MARK THE BIRTH OF A NEW WORLD!"

Keeping my diatribe above in mind, is it sad that the only characters they got right in the game are the Joker and Luthor? Joker's outburst near Chapter 5 was hilarious, I must admit.

So, if there was a CHUD "Guiltiest Video Game Pleasures", would this be a potential entry?

Draft board users may also remember me earlier this week as fessing up to considering NARC (the arcade one) a guilty pleasure and drafting it, blind to the many haters of the game. I just want to state out front that I have thought this was a not-bad idea, but the negative buzz is bad. Still, Russ, you have me mildly interested.

I want to play Mole Excalibur Tour.
Why call it a Mortal Kombat game if you are not going to have blood on it!
Just make up a name and make a fighter with the DC characters. No need to make something this stupid.

And really surprised that this uses the U3 engine.
there is blood and fatals, just toned down.

I was laughing about the description of free fall, as I was hoping the writing was meant to be sexual.

Pretty good list of fatalities/brutalities with YouTube links here:

Those are fucking weak. Seriously.
I got Jax's by complete accident against Superman, and all he did was throw him in the air and shoot him in the chest with his machinegun. Hardly a fatality. If this game had real ones it would have probably netted an extra point, and I'd still be playing it today, instead of having moved on to the next one.

I'll probably drag it out again this week for a couple of matches online (I kept playing against the same people this weekend), though.
Captain Marvel's 2nd brutality is kinda simplistically funny.
Green Lantern's is probably my fave of the superheroes. It's not on that list, but it's the first one here- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRIKI...eature=channel

"It's worse than I expected - much worse"

Hmm.

Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe is Great. You can either fight both the MK/DC rosters, or chose to fight only DC or MK characters. I have wanted to play a DC Comics fighting game for a long time and now I can. Mortal Kombat Vs DC Universe is clearly...The Best Game of 2008!
If it wasn't for the toned down fatalities, I'd be sucking this game's dick.
I don't mind the retarded story (was there ever any doubt it wouldn't be?), the fighting is... entertaining and can get purty exciting when playing against other people who aren't 'uber-cheap' (then again it is an MK game, so that's par for the course?). Graphics are nice to look at most of the time. If they do release gore/real fatalities via DLC I'll be happy as a pig in shit. But that's uh... not gonna happen is it? Regardless, this will hold me over until Super Street FIghter II Turbo HD Remix.... and further til SF IV I bet.

That's pretty cool. So if someone didn't like the mesh they could play it as a DC fighter.
I'm neither disappointed in or surprised by the toned down violence. It's a compromise - the fights are more brutal and bloody that I'm used to seeing DC heroes involved in; likewise it's less gory than MKs of the past. It's not strictly a MK game - it's a blend. Fans have to know that DC would never sign off on Batman being decapitated or Wonder Woman having her spine ripped out.
oh i miss the days where you rip the heads off of people
post #183 of 188
Assuming Midway doesn't soon go under, I'm sure the next true MK game will be a return to head and organ removal.
Well, I finally rented it, and I'm enjoying it. I just finished story mode using the MK characters, and have started again with DC characters. It's not bad--it's just annoying that when you move to the next person to fight, you usually get your ass kicked the first 2-3 times you fight them, and then you can finally start fighting back. I fought Dark Khan like 3 times before I ever even got a punch in, I think. I'm working with Flash right now in Arcade mode. I like his Brutality where he rapidly punches and kicks the opponent after zipping off and back on the screen. And yeah, no blood and gore kinda sucks. I think I'm going to fight with the Joker after I finish with the Flash.

But I agree with the above sentiment--I'll wait until it's $20 somewhere new/used, and pick it up then. Hell, it only took me like 2 hours total to finish the story mode with the MK characters.

EDIT: So, I start going through all the different endings on YouTube. Man, some of these are really stupid. Liu Kang becomes Earthrealm's own "Shazam" by using the phrase "Mortal Kombat!" Ugh. Catwoman gains magical powers and can now transform into a Black Panther. Sure. And I think Batman's ending is related to the whole "Crisis/52" storyline. Couldn't find Shazam's, though, so maybe I'll play as him to see the ending.
Both The Flash's brutalities are queer. If you get your ass beat when you first fight a new character it's cause you're not very good at the game, so it auto-adjusts its difficulty/cheapness to let you win. Who cares about character endings? It's a fighting game, not Metal Gear Solid. It's all about the fun and frustration to be had when playing against other people... which is where MK vs. DC Universe actually shines. Is it worth 50-60 bucks? Dunno, but it's rare that a day or two go by and I'm not itching to play this again.

I keep looking for it on Gamestops $19.99 or less page, only then will I pick it up. I heard the fatalities of old are not in this version!
I doubt it will drop to that cheap for a while. Isn't it still selling at full price?

It's actually quite fun old man I'm terrible at games typically and MK vs. DCU has got great "pick up and play" value for me.
