Yes, but there's your problem right there: MK isn't known to be very strong in the actual gameplay department. You would have to re-haul the entire feel, while wiping out two of the strongest selling points of past games. One could argue that they did this with Deadly Alliance/Deception/Armageddon by adding the brand new fighting engine, but what kept things (somewhat) intact is that they kept blood/fatalities in the game.
When Marvel vs. Capcom happened, it was more of a natural process because Capcom had a strong fighting system and could easily adapt that to the Marvel characters. With this, the DC characters should be fine, but the MK ones are getting the shaft so badly that it'll hardly feel like MK.
I really hope this is the in-between MK game before MK8 hits. Midway committed themselves to releasing an MK-related title each year, with every other game being a spin-off of sorts (see: Shaolin Monks). Since our last game was Armageddon (lame), that could be what this is.
But it's still lame with what they're gimping the MK fans with. I have a feeling that they may feel this one in the pocketbook pretty hard (Martianman is the perfect example: more people will try/rent it out of curiosity than outright buy it). The outcry, whether on MK sites or places like Kotaku, wasn't too pretty when the crossover was announced, and now the lack of blood/gore is only making it worse. Seems like a potentially poor decision on the behalf of Midway, who aren't exactly doing well these days.
