What Nationality are you? - Page 2

Like I said, those jokes aside. A lot of euorpeans went to those areas, in fact if I remember my "Ask a Mexican" correctly, there are european and especially German traditions that show up in Mexican culture.

Maybe Tati is a 90 years old war criminal, rejuvenated and using sex appeal to conquer the world.

And seriously, a lot of Japanese went to Argentina and Brazil. Kinda weird to see a Brazilian named Fukajima, but not as weird as working with a curly redheaded burly dude whose last name is Hashimoto.

Oh shit, he found the Holy Grail didn't he? Never mind that Torchwood shit, I'm calling the BPRD.

It's amazing what plastic surgery can do today. You guys did see that ghastly scar mark he had? Obviously he's being "touched up". Who knows, we may have found were Hitler has been hanging around all these years!

Mom's side is 100% Italian. Dad is Swiss, German and Irish. I've discovered that means I'm a loud drunk but I know how to cook. With my wife being Filipino, our kids will start yelling at birth and never stop. Ever. They'll be fun to hang out with though.

I have Irish (Kelly... duh) and French/German (Cordes) on my Dad's side, and English (Walker) and French Canadian (Eby) on my Mom's side. My Dad swears that our line goes all the way back to one of the original clans of Erie.

My Grandma (the French Canadian) was born in Medicine Hat in a sod home. Not that that really means anything, I just think that its cool that she survived that and just had her 90th birthday and has never had a serious health issue in her life. She's also still sharp as a tack. Health-wise, I take after her, but I am so WASPy in looks that I should have stripes. The gray hair was blond, I'm 6' 2" and 230, have peachy-pink complexion and green eyes.

Still some pretty nice examples of sod huts in and around Medicine Hat. Lots of people who are into alternate housing (raises hand) study them. Kinda neat, actually.

As MissZooey mentioned, my dad comes from an eastern European Jewish background. The exact region is hard to pin down, as my dad is kind of terrible with this sort of information, and I don't really know that side of my family, for the most part. Regardless, it seems they'd been in New York for several generations before he came along.

My mom's side is much easier to trace, since my grandparents are both Breton (to be reductive, French celts from the Brittany region), and my family here remains in contact with some of our cousins in France.
I'm actually both French (where the May comes from),and fur-trapper(French Canadian),the other bits are Irish (maybe, grandma was adopted), and Carpathian (regional Polish).
All Irish on my father's side. All Spanish on my mother's.
Croatian, as far back as I know of. I'm first generation Canadian so my parents have funny accents and make their own wine.
German/Irish with a splash of Scottish.
Mostly German on Dad's side, mostly English on Mom's. Agfa film is the only color stock that can detect my skin tone.

I dated a very lovely Croatian girl back in Saskatoon. The only person I have ever known to have a worse last name (Cirkvencic) then me. She also kicked my ass in basketball on a regular basis. What the hell is with the Baltic states and basketball?

English, Irish, German, French, Swiss, Scottish, & Dutch.
AKA White, White, White, White, White, White, & White.

Tieman is Dutch-German.
Dutch, English, Scottish, Irish and a little German. So yeah, pretty much what Tieman said, several degrees of honkey.
Mother's side: Scotch/Irish/German

Father's side: Swedish.

I wouldn't tan if I lived on Mercury. I guess I would make a good drunken, porn star, that likes to shit on people.
Irish, Scots, English, French, Dutch, German, and Cherokee.

Bit of a mongrel.

I love how Blacks have no ethnicity. My dad is Black. I don't know his family history, but I assume there is some white folk in there because he has red hair and freckles (just like Malcolm X!) and passed that on to me (I was born on Malcolm X's birthday)! My mom's side of the family is descended from Russian Jews, but my mom and her parents were born in America - Brooklyn to be exact.
German. As far as the tellings of my family go. Before Germany even existed you could throw in some Polish and Prussian though. And maybe I should look for my long lost grandfather in South America.
Italian on Dad's side, Irish/Scottish on Mom's.

I can't help you to fill any quotas. Sorry.
100% norwegian as far back as I know.
Not very exciting.

I'm 25% Irish, 75% mutt, but my family ruled Nicaragua for a while, so I'm going to say Nicaraguan.
1/4 Irish, 1/4 Scottish, 1/4 Welsh, then the remainder is a mix of English, French and German. I'm as White as they come.

Since we're talking about race; Justin Clark in case anyone calls you're my black friend.
I don't know, really. Guess I should find out sometime.

I mean, I'd guess it's mostly Scottish and Irish in there, but that's about it.

I just had my y chromosome DNA and mtDNA tested, and it said my dad's male lineage is from Scandanavia and my mom's female lineage is from Greece.

Before this we were told we were Scottish, Irish, Dutch, and Native American. Granted, all the lineage paths for the varieties of DNA haven't been mapped out, but the conclusion one can draw after getting the results back is: At some point, everyone is African.

This should help McIrish in his search for a black friend. (or, for the 25% that Justin Clark doesn't cover.)

Don't worry about it Justin, I'm my own black friend.

That's a great story. Is that you at the grave of your ancestor? The tombstone says;

"William Walker
Fusilado (executed by fire squad)
September 1860"
That's not me, but thank you for the translation. He was a hell of an interesting guy, obviously.
Both sides of my family are basically Irish as Paddys Pigs going back. The only exotic strain Ive got is that my maternal grandfathers mother was Irish-born, but was actually a full blood Romani Gypsy.

But my family have been in Australia for a fair few generations. My gypsy great grandmother is the most recent new arrival. The rest hopped ships down under during the Potato Famine

I'm Puerto Rican, but I'm pretty pale and my mom is blonde and green-eyed (as is my grandmother, her mom) and I myself was blonde up until I was five when my hair suddenly turned way dark, so I'm gonna guess there's some European or Spanish in there somewhere.
I'm American, my first name is French, my last name is German, but I'm a mixture of Mexican, Irish, and a heavy dose of Spanish. Thus giving me light colored skin, and wavy/curly friggin' hair when I let it grow out.
Wait a minute, what are you asking Patrick? Last time I checked, one's nationality and ancestry were two different things. Someone correct me.

If you have to know my nationality, I'm American.
I'm pretty much a Scottish/Dutch mix (which is why I'm so pale) with a bit of this 'n that thrown in there from various sundry European nationalities. You know, the typical American mutt.
English/Irish from my dad's side, and from my mum, Ngapuhi Maori. But the only thing remotely tangata whenua about me is my brown eyes.
Polish and one of the tribes from the former Czechoslovakia; I'm not sure if it's Czech or Slovak. Ironically, that's only 1 of the grandparents, the other 3 being Polish, but sine he's Dad's father, he's the one that I get my last name from.

Fully Latino (sorry Capitan)/Hispanic myself. And proud of it damn it! First generation born here in the states (NYC represent!).

On my father's side: He's from Nicaragua (the Atlantic side and not one of those snooty Pacific people as he would say) with and had a grandmother (my great-grandmother) that was Miskito. I came to find out last year that Nicaragua may be a recent thing and that my family may be originally from Colombia (specifically one either the northern coastal area or one of its islands off the northern coast). I was also told a few years back that there may be some white blood in me as well. My last name is unique (one other family in the whole US has my last name and they may be related to me). I have been told that it may be of French origin. I have even heard that the name is in use out in France. A cousin of mine did a family tree a way back though and said that our name was originally something different but close (Baptista). No idea why it was ever changed.

My mother's side: 100% Dominican. Now this may include some Taino/Arawak indigenous blood as well. Not too sure.

All together, I'm what you would call a Black-Latino due to the dark skin tone. More often than not I'm confused for a Black man by most people, even fellow Hispanic people. Although there are some instances when a person is able to readily identify me as Dominican (which I identify moreso with since as I was growing up I was more in contact with my mother's side of the family and culture; my brother is the opposite). I always feel a sense of pride when a person gets my background correctly.

I'm Croatian and about 25% Hungarian. I got relatives that make their own wine too and some really, really great whiskey that I will be drinking this weekend.

I am 100% Chinese from Singapore. basically, I am from the Teochew dialect group. Unfortunately, I've only a basic understanding of Cantonese because I was brought up in English. Which means I can understand Cantonese but I am not particularly fluent in speaking it.
Mostly Dutch and German here, and my name is Dutch as fuck(it was hell in school as a kid).

Some people are of the opinion that Celtic peoples are descended from mixing up with Neanderthals, naturally a theory first talked up by the English haha.

Me, I'm Irish and still got family back over the water, a little Italian, and a little German, all of which got over here shortly before WW1. One of my Irish forebears was drafted into the doughboys only a couple weeks after arriving in the US, while the Italian guy worked for Thomas Edison's company (and I like to think that he might have been involved in their moving pictures!). The German family head fled the country after murdering somebody, and his offspring were booze makers and hoods during the '20s. One guy got thrown down an open elevator shaft haha.

Half-Italian and half-Irish. I'm told that there's some Scotch-Irish and a smattering of Cherokee in there somewhere, but I like to consolidate for simplicity. I'm not sure where the Italians are from...or any of their history other than the family name of "Filone" b/c I was kind of denied information about my biological father...but I know the Irish line came over with the Great Potato Famine and ended up in Philadelphia.

Or...something like that.

But to make things even more simple, let's just go with:

I kind of envy you people with your complex and interesting bloodlines. Me, I'm Greek as far as I can humanly tell. It's hard to keep track of a family tree when your grandparents have all been refugees at least once in their lifetime. Ethnic cleansing tends to mess with records.
Half-German and Half-Dutch. Very boring. My wife on the other hand is half Irish and half Cherokee. Sometimes she gets drunk and picks fights with me, other times she tries to run my poker games like we live in a casin......Ohhhh.

Dutch-Irish. My Father was from Wales.
