Free Doctor Pepper if Chinese Democracy is Released this Year - Page 2

Somebody's stupid Dr.Pepper leaked all over my lunch in the communal office fridge at work yesterday, rendering it inedible. That can't be a coincidence.

Lost in translation...

You can find them on You Tube. It wouldn't surprise me if you could also find the missing Gospels, Lord Lucan and the lost chord on there as well, but that's just an aside.

I'm getting a weird Queensryche vibe from the leaked songs. And that, to me at least, is not a bad thing...

How about actual Chinese Democracy if Axl's album is released this year? The government could wager on this and it'd probably win. But that said, I'd love it if a dreadlocked egomaniac restored some moderation to a totalitarian regime.
My wife is about to be happy. I have not read the entire thread, but I am sure someone has posted about the nine songs leaked. She is a HUGE Dr. Pepper fan.
So with that new Chinese Democracy song popping up in Rock Band 2... any chance we'll be getting that free Dr. Pepper after all?
Well there's a new one out there. Comes up as 'Chicken Dinner' in itunes complete with artwork, but is it Shackler's Revenge?

It took a couple of listens but I like it. First 30 seconds are pretty bad though. Song overall reminds me of 'Oh My God'.

Actually more like the first 10 seconds. Don't care for that intro at all.
This song is nuts, I love it.

I even love those bizarre first 20 seconds or so - Almost sounds like a rock track written for a horror flick or something.
Oh sweet bump of mine...

Current rumor is 11/25, exclusively through Best Buy. Looking legit too.

And "Shackler's" is pretty bad ass.
Yup, looks pretty official to me.

Free Dr. Peppers for everyone!
This must be it!

Shackler's on RB2, If The World at the end of BODY OF LIES, this Best Buy convention thing with songs played.

No free Dr Pepper for me as that's just a US thing but fuck it, I'll buy a can and listen to this album.
I guess the world ends 11/25. Say goodbye to loved ones.
I want.
If this is actually happening this time, color me stunned. And excited.

It'll be weird living in a post-Chinese Democracy world, but I'm sure I'll manage somehow.

Now if we could just get a tracklist... I want to hear a final/mastered version of Catcher in the Rye quite badly.
I hear ya. I wonder if Brian May's stuff is still gonna be on the song.
it's not really new news, but billboard isn't really the one to print baseless rumors. i'd say its a good sign of a release.
The story is circulating fast, so it's only a matter of time before the GN'R camp either

A) Confirms the story (less likely)
B) Denies the story and repositions CD's status as "forthcoming." (most likely)
It's teeny, it's tiny, but the cover art has landed:

Linkage
It's gonna get a lot of shit thrown at it but at the end of the day it's cover art, nothing more nothing less, ultimately unimportant. If I'd seen the Use Your Illusion I and II covers before release I would have been unimpressed.
it looks line an Amphetamine Reptile cover from the early nineties (helmet, halo of flies, cows.)
I'm actually really glad they went for the black and white (or is it sepia toned?) cover art - For an album that's going to be this polarizing and (undoubtedly) overproduced, the simplicity is a nice touch.

The Blues is called Street of Dreams now? Glad to see Catcher on there.

Catcher in the Rye is an awesome song. Good to hear it's on, and that they didn't include Silkworms. Which is terrible.
So, the world is finally going to end, eh? Oh well, I'll just drink my free Dr. Pepper while all the shit is going down.

I've heard all of those songs except "Scraped" and "Prostitute."
A) does the guy REALLY think the band gives a shit whether or not everyone gets a free Dr. Pepper

and

B) does anyone in the public really give a shit about the "Guns N' Roses" album when they get offered the free Dr. Pepper? I mean, seeing as how it's "The Axl Rose Show" rather than the band most of us used to love?
All I've heard it "There Was a Time", and hopefully it was an early version, although the second half is pretty good. Guess they wussed out on calling it "T.W.A.T.".

I'm going to have to fight off the temptation to download any of this before buying the disc now. I think it's been hurting my appreciation of a few albums as a result lately.
Yeah, same here - I'm going to wait this one out, as it really seems like there's no turning back for GN'R this time.

As for the tracklist, very interesting stuff. Looks like This I Love, Scraped, and Sorry are the only songs that never leaked...
If this is honestly supposed to come out November 23, shouldn't there be any press release... or music video? The new Spears video is already out and the album drops more than a week after GNRs supposed date.
Rolling Stone say a video is coming:

Quote:
A music video is in the works, and the band — in which Rose is the only remaining original member — is expected to tour in 2009, according to a source close to G N’ R.
But that doesn't seem like concrete confirmation. Axl was apparently writing his press release according to another "insider" but then Fernando said that was bullshit.

The record label might just send out a generic press release, or nothing at all! I'd like to read Axl's version, his ramblings always make for good reading.
How is this free Dr. Pepper thing gonna work, logistically speaking? Coupons? Will they just back a truck up in specified central locations and make you wait on a line? May I have a diet Dr. Pepper? This is gonna be a pain in the ass, and I guarantee, fucking guarantee, I don't get one.
I'm thinking they'll put a coupon on their website that you print out and take to a participating shop?

Did anyone catch the promo clips yesterday before they were taken down? There were 16 in all but I only caught 3 or 4, one of which featured a brand new song! Couldn't tell whether it was any good or not of course, these were 15 second clips of which 5 seconds were the song.

Well, it's still no Mr. Pibb!

I hate Dr. Pepper; It tastes like cough medicine.

Leper, if they forcibly coerce me into accepting a can of Dr. Pepper, I will mail it to you so that you don't feel left out.

Who's going to coerce you into accepting a soft drink? Dude, it aint like they're gonna send jackbooted thugs out to distribute the good doctor....or are they?
I wasn't lamenting the fact I wouldn't get one. I was merely pointing out that I figure the hassle won't be worth the sixty five cent soda. I also heard tell of Taco Bell giving out a free taco if there is a stolen base in the World Series. I'm just curious how this free shit works. You just know that:

A) theses companies are paranoid that someone will try to exploit the system and get a lifetime supply of whatever it is that is being given away.
and
B) There is someone trying to figure out a way to exploit the system and acquire a lifetime supply of whatever is being given away.

Title track goes to radio tomorrow. Video being filmed (or about to be). Get your helmets on, kid. Looks like shit's about to go down.

Finally, we can go back to using Duke Nukem Forever as a benchmark in broken promises.

I did indeed catch those! The new song sounded terrific. Granted, with only 5 seconds or so it was hard to tell, but it sounded surprisingly catchy and aggressive. Love the colliding layers of vocal tracks at the beginning, very Queen-esque.

It's not Welcome to the Jungle... but I like it.
I dig it as well. Better than "Shackler's Revenge" (although that is growing on me), and much, much better than "If the World" (which is pretty awful).

Although I've heard most of the tracks in one form or another, I'm suddenly really, really excited that this is actually coming out.
The retards composing WMMR's morning show (in Philadelphia) spent a good portion of their morning slagging "Chinese Democracy". The hyperbole was running rampant: "It's the worst piece of crap I've ever heard." Personally, I don't think it's awesome, but it ain't half bad neither. It's definitely got me intrigued.

I think it's going to take a lot of unwarranted crap because it's under the G'n'R banner. Call it the Dawn of the Dead (2004) effect. Axl could have saved himself tons of grief by releasing as a solo effort or under a different band name. Then again, he's made it eminently clear that he believes he WAS/IS G'n'R.
Well, there's only guy that sounds like him and aside from Michael Jackson, no one post-GNR cared for any of the other Gunners. I'd go as far as saying I'd actually prefer Axl with new guys over old Guns with another singer.

And if anyone happened to hear some of the guitar stuff from CD... Bumblefoot, May and Buckethead are just great talents. They certainly don't need to hide and put every Bullet for my Valentine or whatever the youth is into now, to shame.
I like it too, hopefully 'Better' is the next single though I wouldn't have minded that being first single either.

It's all still so bizarre!

The C List on Radio 1 this week:

Quote:
* Christina Aguilera Keeps Gettin' Better

* * Akon Right Now (Na Na Na)

* Christian Falk featuring Robyn Dream On

* Fightstar The English Way

* Friendly Fires Paris

* * Guns N' Roses Chinese Democracy

* Late of the Pier Bathroom Gurgle

* * Lemar [d/l 7/11] If She Knew

* Sigur Rós Vid Spilum Endalaust

* Sneaky Sound System UFO

* * The Verve Rather Be
Again, bizarre! Just to see it listed alongside other current songs.

Guns n’ Roses’ management released a statement today officially confirming the arrival of Chinese Democracy on November 23rd. “The release of Chinese Democracy marks a historic moment in rock n’ roll,” said Irving Azoff and Andy Gould. They also added that Best Buy would be launching a “monumental campaign that matches the groundbreaking sound of the album itself.” Pre-orders begin today for the 14-track album co-produced by Axl Rose and Caram Costanzo (Pearl Jam’s No Code, Rage Against the Machine’s Evil Empire). Chinese Democracy will be available on CD, digital download and vinyl (with a free digital download option) through Geffen Records and Black Frog (Rose’s publishing company).
We have our press release.

Of all the songs I've heard on this release, this is still one of my least favorites. It's a really strange choice for a single. Maybe Axl wanted to show the rockers out there that he can still rock out before hitting the world with one of the ballads.

Still, there are so many people who lost interest in this release years ago and so many that are on the fence. This song will not help sell extra copies.
I liked it.
