The 2008 Austin City Limits Music Festival Thread

I thought about bumping the old threads, but they're all dated and I figured why the hell not.

The line-up goes up April 15th. Last year was a blast and I'm curious to see who's going this year.

Who Will Probably Be There: Wilco, Ben Kweller, Paolo Nutini, Spoon, My Morning Jacket, Thievery Corporation, Death Cab for Cutie, The Decemberists, Andrew Bird, Kings of Leon, Muse, Regina Spektor, Rocky Votolato, Bloc Party, Drive-By Truckers (or just Patterson, but my money's on the whole band), Zap Mama, Lucinda Williams, Robert Earl Keen, Kaiser Chiefs.

I'd like to see the National, Okkervil River, the Arctic Monkeys, the White Stripes, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Frames and LCD Soundsystem show up again but they're not safe bets. Also, Arcade Fire isn't touring this year which sucks.

Also likely to show up: Jared Melton. Any other Chewers?

Hell, that's almost worth a trip to Austin. I'm completely off My Morning Jacket and never liked Death Cab but the rest is a great line up. I'd love to see Keen and while Williams has been hit or miss live for me when she's on, she' son.

Damn, that is a fine line-up. *quickly calculating how much vacation time I have left*

I've been wanting to see Muse again.....

Here's hoping they have a better festival closer than mumblecore king Bob Dylan.

Not bad. 29 of the 130 have been revealed in this mash-up (which I'm guessing was your source, Strauss).

*Edit: Sorry Strauss, I got so excited by the news I glanced at at the avatar and posted as quick as I could. Error corrected.

I'm the other Comedian avatar. Justin was late to the party on that one. And yes, the mashup was the source.

I do hope they avoid having as many of the big bands as they had last year.

Holy crap, somebody actually beat me to this thread for once...

I'm locked in as usual and I definitely hope to see some of you there. Maybe we can center an Alamo Drafthouse visit around the festival and make Andre happy by adding some film experience to the mix.

April 15th cannot come fast enough, imo.

I'm down for that. I haven't been to the Drafthouse yet and was looking for an excuse to go when I drive over to Austin this September. Having never met any Chewers in person, I'm both ecstatic and horrified at the possibilities of such an encounter.

I hear you on that second part too. It's gotten so bad that I'm actually starting to convince myself those Radiohead rumors are true.

It's Here

All I've gotta say is: who the hell invited Louis XIV back?
Just kidding, this looks great.

Hey, good for Flyleaf! They're from the Temple/Belton area...I went to high school with the bass player.

I expect to have my tickets purchased by the end of the week.
A little more electic lineup than last year, and I love it.

Dude, I know Pat too.

Awesome. Part of me is bummed that Muse won't be back, but there are a lot artists showing up that I've never had a chance to see. Any of you know when single-day tickets go on sale? The three-day pass is such a steal compared to the single-day route, but alas...

...yeah, that was a brain fart. I don't know Pat at all.

I meant to say Jared...no clue why I called him the bass player.

Last year's was better. Then again, 4 of my favorite bands played last year so unless they all showed up again I'd be inclined to play favorites.

Oh well. That just means I'll have time to spare for the Drafthouse this year.
I'm kinda bummed. No Explosions in the Sky, no Muse, no Artic Monkeys. Still an interesting line-up though.

The Arctic Monkeys and Arcade Fire tore it up last year. They more than made up for the White Stripes flaking out.

Everybody get their early bird tix?
I waited until today...so I had to fork over full price. Buuuuut that's okay...the first year I went, I waited too long and had to buy multiple day passes.

The schedule's up.

And it sucks. There aren't as many acts this year that I'm jazzed about, and whatdoyouknow - most of them are lumped together at the same time, halfway across the park. I'll probably just let my friends decide where we'll be during those times for me.
Looks like I'll be there for Sunday only. A friend is getting married in Dallas on Saturday, but I'll truck it down to Austin in a rental car on Sunday morning, and meet up with some friends. I should get to see Neko Case, Okkerville River, Gnarls Barkley, Band of Horses, and Foo Fighters, so I'm pretty pleased. Maybe even Gillian Welch if we get there early enough.
Hey guys, don't knock on Saturday. John Fogerty!!

Bumped.

Just over a week away. Got my 3-day pass printed out and I finished off my checklist of who to see. Who here's still goin'?
My 3-day passes are taped to the fridge, home-skillet.

The only loose end I have right now is finding a decent local place to board the puppy - I'm not paying no $150 pet deposit.
I'm in for Sunday. If anyone wants to try and meet, just say the word.

I'm down. I haven't decided if I'm coming back Sunday night or Monday morning, but if any of you guys are gonna be up at the Drafthouse that weekend I'd love to meet up. I know Fantastic Fest is finishing a up a few days before and I meant to get down for that but I've been busy as hell these last few weeks that I just had to cancel any plans I had.

I'm up for meeting at the festival, but it's a nightmare trying to find people anytime after 4 or 5 p.m. (cell phone service gets shitty around that time too).
Sitting in Flips trying to figure out how to get to Republic Square without paying any money to park the car...the ladyfriend and I are planning on hitting up Vampire Weekend as our first must-see.

I'll swing by the AT&T Oasis a couple of times today and see if any of you guys bothered to check the thread.

Hope everybody has a blast!

Well, I had a bitchin' time.

So did I. And even though I'm subscribed to this thread, it never showed up on my updates so sorry for missing out on a possible Chewer meet-up.

And I totally coulda got you free parking at one of the garages.

Anybody that paid -- if you're going next year, lemme know. I'm the king of parking for free in South Austin.

Also, Andrew is forgiven.

This time.

Wow, that was fast: the '09 tickets went on sale this past weekend. I picked up mine, but I'm not sure they're still sellin' em.
