Violent anti-emo protests in Mexico, Hare Krishnas try to broker a peace agreement - Page 2

From what I can gather from this article it's effectively free love double-oh decade style.

Damn, I used to know a couple of people from Chile. Hmm, say Tati would you mind crossing the border for us Americanos del Norte (Yeah I checked but my gut tells me I still fouled it up) chewers and get some info.

Rioken is from Chile and lives in Santiago, we should ask him.
To Chile? not a chance. I'm quite comfortable where i am.

Plus, we have Ryoken here. He's from Chile.
Fair enough, make sure he's wearing a hidden camera. But he can only wear it for ten minutes. Otherise he'll suffer permanent neck damage. However, if he's found out by the authorities. The US will disavow any knowledge of his actions. *Cues Mission Impossible Theme Song*

It's okay, that's the same reason I can't go back to Korea.

I think Ryoken said Chileans are the "natural" enemies of Argentinians? I didn't know that, funny because to use their accents sound very similar.
It's not natural enemies. There is a rivalry.
I don't give a shit about it really. I only remember some controversy when many Chilean maps on the internet appeared with the border lines WAY off. They basically took most of the south of Argentina and claimed it as Chilean territory.

But that's just that little mistake.
On the other side, they did produce Cecilia Bolocco. A Being only comparable to Carlos Menem. A match made in heaven.

Oh no sir, it's not Argentinans versus Chileans. It's Argentinans versus Brazillians. How should I know? My superior is Brazillian and what comes out of his mouth....Well glad to know Tati isn't here to hear it.

Well, as I've said before (and Tati please don't get insulted on this again), many times it's Latin America vs Argentina. As I've said before, many see them as the "French" of the region.
That's just in Soccer.
In soccer Argentinians and Brazilians will rip their eyes out. Otherwise we are cool.

Well that too, I've always been a fan of the Argentinian team. However, Brazil just dominates in the most recent World Cups.
You guys realize that if this conversation isn't about spiky haired kids beating each other up or off, no one cares, right?
He's right. Let's go back at making fun of the Emo kids.

I was thinking more Morrisey than anything but Mexican Emo Elvis don't take kind to shit being thrown down at his bretheren.

All this clashing of sub-cultures reminds me of the great metalhead-rockabilly wars we had here in the mid-eighties. They were fucking hilarious.
Greek Metalheads vs. Greek Rockabilly. Damn that must've been a site.
We had the numbers and the Bruce Dickinson with us but the damn rockabillies had a cave troll. It was epic.

How I miss my misspent youth.

Not surprised that Mexican emos don't like Reggaeton.
So if an emo kicks your ass, are you more emo than them?
The bastard kid in that photo stole the pink bow tie look I was gonna go for in '09.

All these people and not a mariachi in sight?

Cinema has grossly misrepresented Mexico to me. I'm angry.
We want striped shirts back, Emo/Nightmare before Christmas kids!

Actually, no we don't.

These photos are giving me the impression that there is a gathering of 5-50 emo kids on every street in a major Mexican city

They're laying low. The plan is to take over once the two warring sides have obliterated one another, leaving only a few survivors.

Then you shall see the beginning of the Sombrero Wars. They're constructing Emo prison camps as we speak.

I'm siding with the Mariachi.

It is rumored that the Mariachi are busy fighting the "Goth Mariachis".

Are there really such things as goths in a country that has a national day of the dead (Día de los Muertos) ?

In a weird ironic twist, I now actually would feel just a tad safer in a Mexican city knowing that I can run away from kidnappers, drug dealers, thieves, or cops and run into a sea of emo kids to lose said followers.

And Capitan, I had only heard of that Kristoff video but just saw it when you posted the link. Meh, I sorta agree with what he has to say but his hair is douchebag-esque so that's that. I do wish we could curse on American TV as freely as they can over there.

Somewhere Curon is wondering how can he work this into Y Tu Mama Tabien 2.

And not to deleve into old man style rant. But I can't for the life understand how some kids can walk with their jeans that low. I've tried and I couldn't freakin move. Perhaps it has to something with the tightness but ya got me.

dammit, im late to the party here...sorry everyone.
Oh yeah, i remember that screw up, Tati....I still say that was retaliation for merging Chile with Argentina on "Risk" boards.
And yes, I agree its just a rivalry, one of those that is sustained pretty much because it exists.
As for Pokemones, yeah, they are that messed up...I spend a lot time downtown in santiago searching for Dvd's (my fave store has a whole wall just dedicated to Criterion Collection titles!) every week, and these Pokemones are everywhere...not having public sex, though...its mostly a night at the parks thing.
If you wont me to be honest, Pokemones are exactly what the article says, rebels without a cause; its actually pretty pathetic, since they dont support ot follow anything else but a fashion movement.
If theres ever a full scale urban tribal war in Santiago, Pokemones are fucked, despite their numbers...the average goth girl in Chile is usually cut by nature to be 2 goth girls, the recent Iron Maiden show pretty much united the "metaleros", and the emos seem to be dwindling.
And yes, the Bolocco/Menem union did bring us closer, eh Tati?

So ryoken, are you guys also committing genocide against the emos?

This is like some elseworld's version of The Warriors; except with less jobs and more siestas.

Thrres been some isolated incidents perpetrated by Skinheads, but nothin on the scale of the Mexico thing...although there is some animosity between the rest of the urban tribes and the pokemones as of late, mainly because of the Pokemones increasing numbers, since they are taking over the other tribes space and pretty much annoy the general public with their lack of a group ethos or respect for the casual observer.
I doubt there will be any big scale trouble, due to the lack of emo-related concerts this year...unless fucking Placebo makes its third concert in chile this year.

With more colorful clothes and bisexuality. Plus more eyeliner than you can shake a stick at.

But thank you ryoken for that report.

Seems Australia has an emo splinter group with an already brewing rivalry against emos.

These kids calls themselves "scene"?

Because the movement is still young, emos and Scene kids often find themselves battling for territory.
EJ said she, Kirra and Eliza received abuse from emos, who accused them of "ripping off their style".
"They go 'Oh, what are you doing here? This is our genre'," she said.
"Scene people are completely different. You've got to be really confident, outgoing and not shy."
Crystal McKenna, a 17-year-old emo from Warrnambool, south of Melbourne, is not a fan of Scene kids.
"They are like wannabe emos. It is more the fact that they change just to be in with everything that is going on at the time," she said.
Crystal has been dyeing her strawberry blonde hair dark since she was 13, favours black clothes, band shirts, a side-swept fringe and eyeliner, and listens to such bands as Blink 182, The Offspring and Rancid.
She resents the negative stereotypes associated with emos.
"When people think of emos, they think of people who cut their wrists and are all sad and depressed. We're not all like that." People just wanted to "look different", she said.
Her friend and fellow emo, Ballarat student Shardee Beekmans, 17, said she had heard of problems between emos and Scene kids.
"[But] it doesn't faze me," Shardee said. "I have got a lot of friends who are Scene kids."
I wonder if they got their name from the "my scene" barbies.

I didn't encounter this in Sydney now but I wasn't exactly on an emo/clique hunt when I was there. I was on a hunt of a different kind.
I don't remember any of these people in Traffic or Man On Fire! Where's the ratty hand-me-downs and sweaty faces smudged with axle grease?!

I would love to see an international culture war devoted to the glorious cause of wiping out emos across the planet, with an alliance of punks, goths, hippies, rockabillies, homies, skaters, rednecks, guidos, micks, AZNs, skinheads, Black Panthers, beatniks, hipsters, retro-swingers, metalheads, jackasses, nerds, geeks, ravers, conservative Muslims, WASP skull & boners, chavs, cholos, jock bros, and all other tribes coming together in triumph.
I can dig it. Somone call the Rockstar people and make a game out of this.

And for that matter I don't remember this at all in Y Tu Mama Tambien. But that was made in 2000 so...

But one thing I can gather from all of the groups listed by Stormin. There's going to be a shit ton of wallet chains.

Sounds like El Capitan America is needed down in Mexico. The latest from the front lines;

Mexican emo war spreads to the borders: Incidents in Juarez and Tijuana
Includes video interview with Omar Velazquez an "emo leader" (WTF?). Also a fascinating interview with a "punketo";

Moises Olvera expresses how the way emos dress gets their attention, and how he thinks they look just look weird (Moises is pictured above).

Some pictures of the skirmishes;

Note the guy quickly closing his store, must be scared of the Goth (Dark/Darkies) counter attack.

Pancho Villa and Zapata are reported to be rolling over in their graves

God damn I miss the days when us Gen-Xers were too apathetic to get off the couch let alone do up our doc martins and don our flannalette and ripped jeans long enough to actually riot or throw a punch at anyone. Hell, even if we had Im sure it would have been in a self-referential, ironic fashion.

Wow, emo-riots, thats "cool"

Dude, are you being sarcastic?

I don't even know anymore...

We've got them too. Basically, they'll take subculture of the moment, mix it with the subculture of 20 years ago (if it's a girl, it's Cyndi Lauper's taste in clothes; if it's a guy, pretend you're late 80s punk, and practice your blank stare whenever someone brings up Black Flag or Suicidal Tendencies), hang out at the mall to be stared at. Just because. Yes, their entire fucking "movement" is based on this.

Now if ever there was a group to beat the shit out of on general principle....
