Nine Inch Nails 2008 tour

He's announced the first dates of the "extensive" 2008 tour with "many more to come."

July 25 - Pemberton BC - Pemberton Festival
July 26 - Seattle WA - Key Arena at Seattle Center
July 28 - Edmonton ALB - Rexall Place
July 29 - Calgary ALB - Pengrowth Saddledome
July 31 - Winnipeg MAN - MTS Centre
August 2 - Minneapolis MN - Target Center
August 5 - Toronto ONT - Air Canada Centre
August 7 - Uncasville CT - Mohegan Sun Arena
August 8 - Worcester MA - DCU Center
August 12 - Knoxville TN - Knoxville Civic Coliseum
August 13 - Duluth GA - Gwinnett Arena
August 15 - Oklahoma City OK - Ford Center
August 16 - Houston TX - Toyota Center
August 18 - Dallas TX - American Airlines Center
August 20 - Saint Louis MO - Scottrade Center
August 22 - Cleveland OH - Quicken Loans Arena
August 23 - Auburn Hills MI - Palace of Auburn Hills
August 27 -East Rutherford NJ - Izod Center
August 29 - Philadelphia PA - Wachovia Center
August 31 - Lexington KY - Rupp Arena
September 2 - Morrison CO - Red Rocks Amphitheater
September 3 - Salt Lake City UT - The E Center Of West Valley
September 5 - Oakland CA - Oracle Arena (formerly Oakland Arena)
September 6 - Inglewood CA - The Forum

I'll likely be hitting the Knoxville show unless a couple of other locations show up in a later announcement. The downside is the 5 month erection I'll be living with.
Hm, Worcester instead of Tweeter Center at Mansfield MA? I've never been to the Worcester place, hopefully the sound quality will be adequate. Tweeter isn't too bad for an arena as long as you hit the sweet spot near the middle.

This is definitely my highest priority ticket of the year. The 06 show I saw was one of my 5 favorite shows.
I still can't believe that big whore is doing the Pemberton Music Fest but isn't coming to Vancouver. Grrrrrrr......
Duluth, GA? Fucking there.
So, when the last tour ended, I got the feeling that Trent was moving away from the 'rock band' type of show. There is a quote about it somewhere...
i'll see you in winnipeg and in minneapolis (thunder bay being exactly inbetween the two cities.. more or less.)
Do you have any idea how EXPENSIVE Pemberton is? Ridiculously so. And you know who else is playing? Coldplay and Jay-Z.

Trent can go fuck himself with his atom bomb.
It's so bizarre that I'm forced to go to Toronto for shows now.

Nevertheless, yeah, I'm there.
I hope it's the same spectacle that With Teeth's tour was. Absolutely awesome show that year.
Since there's absolutely no goddamn chance I'll ever see NIN in my own shit province...I'm going to Edmonton this summer. Fuck it.

Haha, you like Coldplay.

Now that's just mean.

Is it Saskatchewan? I'm hoping there'll be a Regina show, but if you do live there maybe I should stop holding out hope and look about Winnipeg tickets.
Yet another band that has started omitting Arizona from their stops. Granted, there are "many more" dates to be announced, they skipped AZ for the Year Zero tour, and it certainly wouldn't surprise me if they did it again for this tour.

So what is this tour in support of? Ghosts? I can't imagine Trent playing any of those songs. They don't really have a live feel to them.
I didn't think Beside You In Time and Eraser were stage material, either. After what Trent did with those two during the With Teeth tour, I have no doubts the Ghosts stuff will fit in just fine.

Fuck no. I'm in Newfoundland; nobody comes here. Furthest east they're coming is Toronto and I don't know anyone there. I have a friend in Edmonton who keeps telling me I should check the place out so NIN is as good an excuse as I need.

Oh, that sucks. Hope it works out for the both of us man.
I just don't get how they can go to Calgary, Winnipeg and Edmonton but not Vancouver and Montreal.

I very much hope Montreal is added to the tour. NIN is not only my favorite band but they are also the best shows I've ever seen live in a large venue. Also, Robin Fink is back with band so I'll be really pissed if I miss this.
C'mon Va. Beach, c'mon Va. Beach! *rolls dice*

The With Teeth tour helped me regain my love of the band(I wasn't a big fan of the album), and the Downward Spiral tour is still the best show I've ever seen(with pre-"Sweet Dreams" Manson and the Jim Rose Circus Sideshow), so I'm looking forward to this.

Radio stations are playing a new NIN song called "Discipline" today. Yes, there are lyrics. Check the Hotline for the news.
Just found out about this. It's catchy as all hell.

Apparently, he just finished it 24 hours ago, and had Alan Moulder deliver it to radio the second it was done. Trent's just been doing the music industry equivalent of the Snoopy dance since left Interscope. It's fucking amazing.
Yeah, and another "2 weeks" post made by Trent. Does this mean a new album? I'll go see if I can find the new song somewhere online.

Update from nin.com:

Hello everyone. Lots going on...

Some of you may have heard a new Nine Inch Nails track on your radio today. You will be able to download your own copy of the track right here later tonight for free - stop back in a few hours.

What else is going on? Hmmn. We're considering a real-time live webcast of me signing 2,500 copies of the just-arrived, super-ultra-mega-deluxe GHOSTS edition all day Thursday. These really turned out great and I can't wait to sign EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM.

We have some tour info coming... SOON (I know you love that word) as well as some other info about something else, too.
As a minor NIN fan, I have to tip my hat to what Mr. Reznor is doing.
As a MAJOR (duh.) NIN fan, I'm continually impressed with his business sense now that he's independent. Can't wait to hear this song... and the new album!
Inglewood eh? Do I dare drag my lazy ass to a show that I should've gone years ago? Perhaps.
nin.com has new info up. The song will be available to download for free later tonight.
Here is a link:
http://rs235.rapidshare.com/files/10...pline_full.mp3

Though the official version is prolly due soon.

I think it's pretty decent and very dancey. Lyrics are the usual stuff (Trent has problems with himself), but the music is top notch. I think he makes this stuff in his sleep.

If a new album hits in 2 weeks, my brain will collapse. It's redefining what to expect from bands.
He really is making up for the delays between the old albums. I love how he's showing the new business model for bands that are already established.

I do hope it's just a single. I haven't digested Ghosts yet so I'm not ready for a new album.
As a major NIN fan I'm seriously impressed he's managing to sneak out material literally overnight (the song was mastered yesterday! Are you shitting me?) and catch us completely by surprise.

Incidentally, I bought plane tickets today for the 7/28 Edmonton show.

ETA: Jesus Christ. The Echoing The Sound forum has a thread about "Discipline" that's already at page 82.

That's why I never visit ETS. Those people are insane.
Free legal download of "Discipline". Multitrack files on the remix site.
Huzzah, it'll be waiting in my inbox when I get home in the morn'!
The ID3 tag for the mp3 contains the following message:

"Go to www.nin.com May 5".

Hmmm. Wonder if there'll be a new album announced (or hell, a new album released) on that date, or more tour info/tickets going on sale.
My guess is tour info...so many of those locations still have "tba" next to them.

He's not even on the direct websites for the two Texas locations
post #36 of 93
I like the new song. I agree with whoever up top said it was danceable, that was my first impression.
As if I needed reasons to be an even bigger NIN whore than I am already. Trent seems really rejuvenated lately. Being ahead of everyone else is where he feels better.

I shouldn't expect the "2 weeks" comment to mean new material coming out but back in February, he posted the exact same "2 weeks" comment and 2 weeks later, Ghosts I-IV were released. And now, with a new song and a new "2 weeks" comment its kind of hard not to expect some new music.

A couple of images:

Imbedded in Discipline mp3 - Some rumors that the image means Discipline is the 3rd song of a 5 song EP.

Observer Music Magazine article - Maybe they were right after all.

An EP would be nice. Still, I won't complain if it's a new album.

EDIT: How long before you guys got your download link? It's been about an hour and I haven't received anything yet.
I got my link instantly. Did you check your spam folder?

Yeah, nothing there.

EDIT: I did it again and received the link instantly. I probably had a typo when I entered my email adress.

The song's very good. It's got a bit of the Pretty Hate Machine NIN and All the Love in the World.

There's a slight chance we'll get to hear another song besides Closer and Only in a bar.

Yeah, it's definitely got a With Teeth vibe. The lyrics are kinda clunky (as per usual I guess), but what's with that false start in the first verse? It could only be left in intentionally by someone as obsessive as Trent.

I think Trent has thrown his perfectionist side out the window, which is both a good AND bad thing.
But then again, I LOVED the vast majority of Year Zero and loathed much of With_Teeth.

I'm not too big on the track, but I'll give it a few more listens.
Loving the new track. It feels very With Teeth (which I loved all but maybe 2 tracks). Year Zero I enjoyed, but never gave it enough listening time to really form an opinion on how it measured up.

And yeah, those false starts are odd...but seem to fit perfectly. This forced my hand to run to Best Buy and snag some NIN CD's I came to lose over the past few years.
I just now got a chance to listen to Discipline...and I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that those false starts are intentional.

I like it. I loved With Teeth (got to see him at the Frank Erwin Center during the tour) and I will concur that it seems to draw a lot from WT.
I've listed to it maybe 10-15 times now and I can't even remember it. So yeah, I think it's fair to say I hate the new song. Oh well, can't win 'em all(and it was free).
Feels like a shit With_Teeth B-Side to me.
New song, "Echoplex", released through Facebook's ilike application. Or just download it here.

I like it more than "Discipline". Sounds a little more Year Zero-ish, and has some new artwork embedded.
Now that I can dig. Thanks for the heads-up Big Jim.
No problem. Also, apparently whoever paid for the deluxe editions of Ghosts I-IV (I didn't, but I lurk a little on the Echoing the Sound board lately and got the info) gets two extra tracks (Ghosts 37 and 38) in multitrack form.
