Nine Inch Nails 2008 tour - Page 2

New song still says check out nin.com May 5th in the Details section under Properties.

I may be reading too much into nothing but given Reznor's marketing tactics I think it's justified. Under Genre my media player has this filed as (253). Think there's any significance to those numbers?
I don't think the 253 has anything to do with anything, but I do think we're getting an album Monday. It's not the ticket onsales, because they just posted a bulletin on myspace with all that info.

Well, all the sales dates and opening bands are up HERE. Looks like I'll be going to the show at The Spectrum with Does It Offend You, Yeah? opening.

Can somebody get the pictures that accompany the downloads of both Discipline and Echoplex and turn them into jpegs? I'm doing my final project for History of Pop and Rock and Roll Music on Reznor and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to isolate them.

Discipline

Echoplex
Thank you sir!
The headline on the nin.com page says <2 hours

We're getting close to whatever he's planning apparently.
Last time he posted "2 hours", we got Ghosts I-IV.
Well I'm guessing I'm not going to be able to sleep until whatever it is happens. Good thing there's a new CHUD Show to listen to.

I was just about to post that as well.

That Reznor's a prick . He shouldn't do that to people this early in the morning.
It'd be great if the whole thing turned out to be some kind of NINroll: just another YouTube video with "Music Makes You Lose Control" by Les Rhythmes Digitales, which is becoming some odd musical punchline.

ETA: I have PayPal at the ready. Pavlov would be proud.
If he's willing to go to all this effort for a joke who's the asshole at that point? Me for going with it or him for putting as much effort into this as he has?

Just for self-esteem I'm saying him.
The site's not loading real fast for me the last couple of refreshes, we're either getting close and/or there's a lot of people online right now.
Well Holy Shit.

Every track has a picture in the PDF liner notes that are in the zip bundle. Sweet.
Well fucking fantastic, and unexpected.
It's been a great few years(and the last few months especially) to be a Nine Inch Nails fan. I'll be getting this shit tomorrow, as long as the servers aren't slammed again like with Ghosts.
You shouldn't have a problem. There are several download options including bittorrents. I have my copy already. I'm gonna put it on and go to bed.
I'm heading to bed now post-listen.

It's interesting, I'd say it's somewhere between Year Zero and Ghosts in terms of sound, the vocals are not a priority they're kinda buried in the mix either that or it's just my speakers.

But it's pretty good and I'm damn happy to have it.
Holy crap indeed. Downloading it now.
Tracks #3 and #9 are really cool. Was just listening to it in the car on the way to work.

I love how Reznor is basically doing the exact opposite of the record industry, and being pretty successful with it too. I hear a lot of bands saying they want to do what NIN is doing right now. Reznor may indeed be pioneering the future of the way music is distributed.

Yeah, if you're a multi-platinum artist with a career spanning nearly two decades, then yes, Reznor is pioneering. Without those credentials...not so much.

I am shocked at his rather prolific output though. Now that he has complete control over his distribution channel he's become something of a work-o-holic.

This is a point my former record exec professor so bitterly made when I mentioned all this. That Reznor's name and branding are a result of millions of studio dollars being spent.

On the other hand, he is proving now why he has remained an icon in music and that his success is truly based on talent, not marketing. Let's see Molly Cyrus pumping out her music on a literal daily basis.
Goddamn. I haven't even gotten around to Ghosts yet. This man if a fucking machine as of late.

That's actually an interesting sentiment. I wonder if there's a cause-of-action available to the record companies. Damn...I wish I knew more about trademark law...this could be an interesting law review article.
It definitely has elements of With Teeth and Year Zero (check out the Art is Resistance flag on "Letting You"'s artwork). I like it so far.

It's funny how people speculated that "Discipline" wouldn't fade out on the album but would use one of Trent's patented segues; the album version still fades but then really abruptly cuts to "Echoplex" during the fade.
Concert pre-sale tomorrow afternoon for Houston! If any Texas chewers want to join us, let me know. I've got a living room for people to crash in.

I'm actually taking my dad to the show. It will be his first time seeing NIN, and I expect him to fully love it. When talking to him about all the crazy stuff NIN/Trent is doing with releasing the music, printing names on tickets, etc he got really excited. I really can't wait for this show.

From an interview here:
http://theninhotline.net/archives/ar...cle.php?id=471

JJJ: Do you think the major label has a cause to feel a bit hard done by cause they’ve spent all this money promoting you while you were on their label to give you this profile and now you’re using it to have freedom and to make money off it now?

TR: I mean that’s a fair point that you make, but you’re leaving out of the equation my relationship with the record label, in particular Interscope Records from 1991 to 2007 was one where they lent me money, when I paid that money back they owned that record, they make the lion’s share of the sales of the profit of that record. If you look at my bottom line at the time that I’ve been at Interscope they’ve made more money off Nine Inch Nails than Trent Reznor has. I will never shed a tear to see that dynasty crumble, it’s long overdue.

It's 4:30 in the morning here and I'm up feeding the baby. Short review is I liked my first listen. It has 'familiar' instruments (guitars, drums, piano) of With Teeth, but the minimalism of Year Zero.

3 instrumentals, a quiet piano number and 6 fairly 'beat-y' songs. Standouts for me were 1,000,000 and Head Down, plus I thought Discipline and Echoplex worked better in context (though I noticed the abrupt transition between the two aswell).

In the back of my mind, I wonder if the minimalistic approach is a result of it being 'rushed out'. It certainly doesn't have the sound depth of The Fragile. But considering the amount of material that has arrived over the last year and a bit (YZ, YZ-remix, Saul Williams, Ghosts, The Slip) I really can't complain.

Edit: I branched the album discussion off to a new thread: http://chud.com/forum/showthread.php...98#post2221298

The thing is, the majors all but dropped little bands and decided to concentrate on easy disposable music instead of building artists (mostly at the beginning of the 2000s). A NIN wouldn't be brought up by a major record label today.

Reznor is indeed having so much success with this new business model because he's already got a loyal and established fan based. On the other hand, Saul Williams said he's sold more albums than he ever has with the same model. If bigger acts could bring in support and awareness for the smaller ones, maybe this could work for everyone. Except for the majors.

I love how Reznor is basically doing the exact opposite of Reznor. Like I said before, he's thrown his perfectionist side out the window it seems.

I've only listened to the new disc all the way through once. I'll throw my thoughts out on the other thread after a few more listens.

I'm seriously considering this...$54.50 for lower reserved seating isn't bad at all...not for NIN.

ETA - Incidentally, I can get a couple of rooms super cheap at the Doubletree Downtown...which is like...a mile away from the Toyota Center, IIRC. I'm not knocking BillyG's living room, but if anybody wants a room...lemme know.

I was a member of The Spiral (thats right, I'm a sucker) during the time of the With Teeth tour, and the coolest thing about being a member were the "customized tickets" with your name printed on it. I still have mine, its up on my wall above the show poster, which was 11_05_05 show at The Spectrum.

The other really cool thing that NIN does is releasing individual posters for each show on the road. Its really cool and does a nice job and personalizing the experience, and makes it feel more of a "Once in a lifetime" kind of thing.

Presale tickets bought today. Edmonton, July 28. I am pleased.
Jeeeez, Houston was sold out only a couple of hours after it started.
Trent can afford to give away all his albums now if he keeps touring. The labels usually get a huge cut of those ticket sales.

Hopefully the sell-outs aren't due to scalpers.

The presales only allow two tickets per person, with said person having to show ID when they pick up tickets.
Bit of a derail, but...last time I visited the Alamo Drafthouse, a guy tried to scalp a few tickets to Big Man Japan's 4 pm showing.

I just shook my head and laughed at him.

Slightly on topic, fuck scalpers.

It was only presale though. Real ticket sale this weekend. I missed the presale myself thanks to a busted PC.
Any Atlanta chewers considering going to this, that haven't bought a ticket? I bought two and I don't yet have someone else lined up to go with, so I may have a ticket to sell (at cost, of course).
