Guys, help me out here. I've been through the FAQ and read a bunch of old threads, and I still can't find the rule that forces you to keep reading threads that don't interest/amuse you anymore.

I think some people find themselves ignoring more and more threads and then logging in less and less and then finding somewhere else to hang out on the internet. So if you're looking to drive funny people off by not being funny, I suppose this works.

Brad used to be a great poster - he turned into an insufferable douche who only existed on this board to be an insufferable douche. I'm not saying you're an insufferable douche yet but you're nowhere near the same Slater who wrote the Holiday Orgy of Death review and started the Shat Pants thread. You seem like a nice enough guy outside of this MB but when you're here more often than not you obviously don't enjoy it. And I never said nothing should be criticized - there's a lot of stupid shit posted on this board every day. But so what? There's ways to criticize it and be funny and fit into the mold of our community, and then there's being a fucking prick just for the sake of being a fucking prick. I think Franks self-loathing thread from the other day went a long way to explaining why I just don't see things as being as dire as you make out here at the chud message board.

You can still come here for some highly intelligent and witty banter, you can still come here to learn things about films you may not have known otherwise, or music or politics or what have you.

...and yeah you can get some pretty funny stuff on here as well - not always funny - but then not everyone who cracks a joke in the real world is either.

This place is still relatively unique on the net as a forum where you can really plug in to a pretty intelligent, creative and interesting community for my money, and Ive been around for 7 years or so.

I just don't see this terrible descent into an aint-it-cool styled moronic race to the bottom like you seem to have been going out of your way to paint it as lately.

Ya know, Jer, I tend to agree with that. But there are holes to punch in your argument:

Who made you the be-all end-all judge of what was and wasn't funny? You're the master of your own taste, sure, and goddamit, in your prime you were one of the funniest motherfuckers around (as was Millette). But again, rather than you guys using your own humor to counteract all the people who were "aggressivley unfunny," you deteriorated into a bunch of assholes. And your constant venom, vitriol and general negativity created a much bigger problem than the celebration of bad jokes.

Some people around here, as we've seen a few posts up, deserve to be lambasted and treated to whatever brand of collective vigilance we can muster to protect the atmosphere of what we've created. But, more often than not, it was just you guys doing more to make the problem bigger as opposed to trying to fix it. I guarandamntee you that any one of your patented threads or Brad's one-liners or Whiteheads damn-near impenetrable doses of logic and and common sense would have been enough to eclipse all of the bullshit had you stuck to your guns. I'll be honest, I miss the old razor-sharp, extra-dry Slater who used to regale me with his piercing wit and intellect. I'd have that guy back again, but you've got to realise that these kind of grumpy old man threads aren't going to return the board to some mythical time you're obviously missing, it's just you having a whinge - which is fine mind you, but you used to be so much more than that 'round here.

Maybe instead of bemoaning the state of many of the threads, why don't you start posting regularly on the ones you think deserve it? Why not try and be the change you want to see around here?
