So, who's to blame for where the WhiteSox are? Ken Griffey Jr. for being absolutely atrocious in center, or Nick Swisher being so awful that Griffey actually looked like an upgrade at the trading deadline?

There is plenty of blame to go around. The Griffey move was completely pointless, but it didn't hurt the team. They've had a bunch of lingering injury problems, but I don't think it's that either. After all, they were gifted the Tigers and Indians both sucking for long stretches this year, they have no room to complain. Swisher has been awful. Vazquez has regressed. They sorely miss Quentin.
In 2005 they won because they were scrappy and, obviously, they caught lightning in a bottle with their starting pitchers. This year the Twins have that scrappiness, and the Sox are constructed like a wannabe offensive behemoth, but the truth is the heart of their order is a bunch of past their prime sluggers.
