MLB 2008 Season - Page 2

Poor, poor Justin Morneau. Even though the guy won, you can tell he felt bad cause he knew Hamilton deserved it.
Jesus Christ, Hamilton got 28 in the first round? That's...that's rather a lot.
The thing is, guys can get into a rhythm and hit a ton out, but it was the sheer power on display that was so amazing. He was hitting drives 450-500 feet like it was nothing. It got to the point where even the end of that round was anti-climactic, let alone the next two. Given what that type of effort takes out of a hitter, I doubt he could have repeated the performance, but even if he did it would have been kind of pointless, and taken way too long. Everyone would've just been waiting to see him hit one out of the stadium entirely, which may have happened once in 80+ years.

When a first year guy, who almost threw his life away because of heroin, has perennial all-stars approaching him in awe because of what he did in the first round of an exhibition, they need to just hand him the trophy right there.

I think blow and crack were his drugs of choice. I could be wrong though I dont think he used heroin.

Watching Hamilton was crazy, although everything after that was kinda deflated by it.
Joe Buck, shut the fuck up about Hamilton! He says the same shit every time he comes up to the plate. Talk about overkill.
Josh Hamilton is to MLB as Fergie is to pop music.
Is it just me or are the broadcasters ignoring the absolutely horrible bad calls?

15th Inning for the All Star Game. This game is going to 5.5 hours!!!

Why won't they put Lidge in? He'll take this to the 17th!
What a goofy game.
What a GREAT game.
He didn't put Lidge in because he'd rather have had him go 3 innings than Webb, but if the game ended earlier he might as well not push Lidge farther than he is used to before getting his one inning out of Webb.

Or Blow the game!

BTW: I hated how Joe Buck kept sucking the Red Soxs and Yankees off.
How long was the 2002 All Star game?
Not sure, but this may have been the longest All-Star game, inning-wise.
I feel bad for Uggla. He was DFA'd during the post-game interviews...
Fell asleep after the Uggla error inning. What was that, the 11th? Think that was a little after midnight. The game started way too late.
I quit watching after Mo finished the 10th. Classy move by Francona to bring him in with one out in the ninth.
I also quit after the 11th, and a good thing too.

I still think that if Hamilton heats up he can win the Triple Crown. This is my crazy prediction for the second half.

Not sure if I'm a fan of "rent-a-pitcher"; it would be different if I felt the Brewers' window was closing but I feel like it's barely starting to crack open.

Melvin has made FAR more good moves than bad, so I guess I'll trust the professional at this point.

So, do we want to reevaluate yet? I can't imagine how this could have worked out any better to date and Sabathia is just dominating the NL right now. Keeping the Brewers bullpen out of the game is a great bonus as well, although really almost all of their problems can be traced to Mota and Gagne.
I'm feeling the Yankees recent tear since the All Star break, hopefully this offense can keep up, because I can't imagine their pitching carrying them.
I love how early in the season and up to a certain point a few weeks ago it was "THE CUBS ARE THE BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL!" "THE RAYS HAVE THE BEST RECORD IN THE MAJORS!!" "THE RED SOX ARE THE BEST TEAM IN THE AMERICAN LEAGUE!!!!"

and then my dear Angels become the team with the best record and all I hear is "The Angels *whisper*withthebestrecordinthemajors*whispers* swept the Red Sox..."

But I guess they're getting some coverage. I can't imagine how Pirates fans feel.

The way Sabathia has pitched, and with Parra's ascendance and Bush's revitalization, it looks like Melvin's move makes the starters a team strength, and I'd be VERY surprised if we don't end up in the playoffs - or if the Brewers don't, it'll be one of those "team with 95 wins getting bumped by an inferior division winner" scenarios.

*whistles*

Oh, sure, it looks like a great move now. You think Yankee brass knew Farnsworth would go a month without allowing a hit? They were that confident in Veras/Ramirez consistently getting huge out in the 7th innings? Don't get me wrong, I like the fact it worked out. Thank goodness it did.

I can't imagine my reaction if someone told me before the season started that on July 25th:

Mussina would have 5 more wins than Wang, Hughes, and Kennedy combined
Jeter would be batting 30 points below his career average
Matsui would have been lost for the season a month earlier
Joba would have won 2 of his first 9 or so starts
Posada would have a whopping three homeruns
Cano and Giambi would be hitting in the .260s
Neither Damon, ARod, nor Abreau would be having monster seasons

and yet, they are 12 games over .500 and only three games back in the division. Weird year.

Brewers catch Cubs. Sprtin to the finishe with the teams playing each other 10 times down the stretch, and the season ends with a 3 game series in Wrigley. Awesome.
The Yanks are rolling now. It took them a month longer than I thought it would but we're there. Washburn doesn't exactly get my blood pumping, but he'll be a minor step up from Sidney Ponson. If they can find a decent replacement for Rasner until Wong gets back, things will be golden.

And that Brewers/Cub series should be terrific. Wish I could catch some of it.

It actually ends with a 3 game set at Wrigley North.

What's with Braun giving a curtain call when nobody asked for it?

Good deal for the Braves, I'd do Kotchman for two months of Teixeira any day of the week if I were in their position. Though, I imagine I wouldn't be so gleeful if the Mets were a good 2-3 years away from contention.
My heart sank a little after hearing that, since Kotch was on a little hot streak this past week, but I've always lusted, in a manly way, over Teixeira since he was on the Rangers.
I'm just glad he didn't end up with the D-Backs.
As an Angels fan I'm pumped to hear they got Teixeria as he was rumored to be on several team's lists. I can't wait to see how the lineup for Angels changes with Vlad batting in front of Teixeria.

Ditto. Cubs face them in the first round and I want them as shitty as possible.

Hey! Don't count my shitty team out just yet!
It's Ok, Tie. I'm sure Cubs fans would freak out with a 4.0 earthquake.

Remember, they're technically the "Chicago Baby Bears."
I have a few friends & co-workers originally from Chicago that would give their left arms for the opportunity to see a Cubs playoff game at Dodgers Stadium.
Those would be pretty epic crowd fights.
I officially hate the Angels.
Hey.....we're finally getting noticed.

The best team in baseball just got better but I'm pretty sure the LAA were getting noticed before.

The question is: what are you going to do at 1B next season?
Cyborgs.
A robot designed to hit blurns? Never happen.
I know Teixeria is a native Texan and probably wants to play there, but signing him is to a multi-year deal is not out of the question. Angels owner Artie Moreno has shown he'll spend $$$$ to get good players. So this could be more than just a 3 month rental for the Angles.
Yankees trade Farnsworth to Detroit for Pudge. Man, I don't know about that. Farnsworth had done a pretty good job in his 8th inning role. Risky move.
I can't believe Girardi was crying when talking about Farnsworth leaving saying how they were best buds. I would assume he has a family to go home to and the Chicago Farnsworth was known to go to the bars every night.

I can't believe the talking heads think the Brewers will win the Central just because of Sheets and Sabathia. While those two are the goods(and gone next year) the Bre have a really bad defense and a horrible pen. Both Corner outfielders played singles into triples with illadvised dives, bad routes to the ball, or just too slow, Hall sucks at 3rd, and Weeks is pathedic at 2nd.

They should make the WC but they are not a team built to go very far.

*And Ned Yost should have been fired by August of last year.
White Sox trade for Junior? What the hell? Having a hard time understanding this one.
I'm saying good riddance to Farnsworth. Whenever he came into a game with anything less than a 3-run lead, I'd start biting my nails.
So what do people think of Junior Griffey being traded to the White Sox (pending his approval, which after the last week in Cinci he'll gladly give)?
The Griffey trade makes no sense. Even if they move Swisher to 1B (cutting into Konerko's playing time), I can't see Junior taking CF. Quentin and Dye are pretty locked in at LF and RF. I'll just sit here and scratch my head and wait to see who all is involved in the trade.

What about the rumored 3-team deal involving PIT, FLA, and BOS? Manny to Florida, Hermida to Pittsburgh, and Bay to Boston... interesting.
At this point I don't even care if they're giving up a coupon for a deep-dish pizza for Griffey, it seems like they're further crowding a dugout already filled with guys who can hit it out, but are barely clearing the Mendoza line. If Griffey reduces the playing time of Konerko and Swisher, that gets the Sox what exactly? Seems like treading water.
