Great stuff.

Could you be less specific?

Is that sarcasm?

I dont know, I just figured people in a music forum would know who the Black Keys are.

I don't know who the Black Keys are, but since we are in the music forum I assumed they were a band.

I couldn't get into their last album, for some reason. It didn't hit me like "The Big Come-Up" and "Thickfreakness" did, but their album of Junior Kimbrough covers was tits. I'll definitely check this one out. Thanks for the heads-up!

I read that they wrote this album with Ike Turner as the intended vocalist, before the gent passed away. I am not clear if they actually intended for him to sing on the album, or if he was just the inspiration. Anyone know?

I was worried about over-production on this one, but as it turns out, that's this album's biggest strength. I'm with Jake on that last album: it was a chore to get through because it was so boring. This one broadens their horizons some and I like it so far.

I'm not finished yet so I'll report back later.

Didn't Danger Mouse work on this album?

Yep. Produced the whole thing, from what I understand.

Danger Mouse reached out to the Keys to work with Ike Turner. Keys were to write and play for Turner. Turner passed and the three made the record anyway.

Think the White Stripes only the drummer is also a man.

Great band, by the way. I liked Magic Potion quite a bit, especially Your Touch, Just Got To Be, You're The One, and The Flame.

I am absolutely ga-ga for this band, and this album is no different. If you've never heard these guys before, the best way to describe them is how a friend put it once: they make music to fuck by. It's sex for your ears.

Love the addition of new instruments. It doesn't have the "cranked out on a lo-fi tape recorder" their earlier stuff had, but they preserve the spirit while going for a bigger production value. The organ towards the end of "All You Ever Wanted" is so proof enough that this new sound is going to work beautifully for them.

I'm actually learning about engineering in the studio where this was recorded for next 2 weeks. You just get a great sound from that studio, it's a pretty awesome place.

My college sweetheart married the guitarist and had some babies.

Isn't that in Painesville?

They've stuck more with their sound than the Stripes have for the most part.

I believe it is.

I sampled a few tracks of this in a record store yesterday, and I liked what I heard a lot. I think I'll have to pick it up soon.

I picked this up along with the new Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds album yesterday. Cave's winning so far, but I'll be damned if this album isn't growing on me like a weed.

This is my favorite band, and they just keep getting better. If you want some more Black Keys goodness and have all the regular albums and EPs (like I do), Dan Auerbach plays guitar on the new Nathaniel Mayer album, "Why Don't You Give It To Me?"

Anyway, been into these guys for a good long while, and am glad to see that they're getting more of a following. They certainly deserve it.

I also like the better than The White Stripes, but then I've never really thought they sounded all that similar, apart from the fuzzy guitar. They're coming from totally different places as bands. The Stripes have always seemed more arty, the Keys more, I dunno, primal or something.
