I noticed my Blockbuster has this in now, anybody played it? Some of the preview videos I saw made it look a bit RE4ish.

Most importantly, how does the glaive handle?

The glaive is the best part about the whole game. Long-range beheadings are extremely satisfying to get, and chopping off digital limbs and torsos will never get old.

That said, 'best part of the game' isn't hard to achieve. The game is about as OK as it gets. Nothing amazing, nothing too horrible, just digital mediocrity. Rental is definitely the best way to go about it.

Wasn't this one of those "in-development for 10 years" games? I remember reading something about it a few years ago in GI.

Yeah, and judging by the comments I've seen in pretty much every review and discussion of this game, it was completely retooled some time after Gears of War came out, since it cribs from that game so liberally.

This is another one for me, like Viking, that will be picked up after it drops below $30. I had a copy in my hand last week, but I couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger.

Just got this off a friend. Not looking for too much, just some nice gore and easy achievements. I did see a video where the glaive took off this guys arm and he made this extremely horrifying death scream. It made me smile.

Little brother played this. He said that the story wasn't all that hot and the game is too short. He liked it overall but said that it's only worth a rental.

Rental it is, then. Thanks for the input.

So it's Gears meets RE4 with the Predator-type weapon from Turok 2, but not as good as any of them?

Single player only? I've learned my lesson this generation, it's a rental for me.

Im on the the 3rd or 4th level and im already bored with it. The combat is just really not that fun. The enemies mostly just stay behind cover and pop out when you do. The weapons laying around have short timers on them. When time runs up they short out and blowup. So your left with your pistol mostly unless you buy something new. The glaive is nice, but becomes powerful very quickly. Losses much of its wow factor when your using it over and over again. So yeah, i really dont like this game. Its going to be a real chore to finish.

I'm enjoying it. It's a good game, not great. If you read the reviews at IGN and Gamespot, where I think it scored between 7.5 and 8.0 - those are pretty fair reviews. Some people might get hung up on a score less than 9/10 and declare the game a failure - but I think a game can still be enjoyed, even if it won't contend for title of "greatest game ever".

The combat in Dark Sector is a lot of fun, especially the glaive. I'm near the end of Chapter 7, and using the glaive has not gotten old. Very cool the way your abillities are always evolving, so you can really mix up your attacks.

The story isn't the best. But then, Gears of War didn't have a narrative that would knock your socks off either. Both GoW and DS are alike to me, in that the combat is fun, and that is the primary motivator to keep playing.

I'm not much into multiplayer, haven't even tried that part of the game. Single player is the main thing I look for. If I had to rate the game, I'd give it something in the 7.5 to 8.0 range as well. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this as a rental, I think many people might enjoy slicing and dicing with the glaive. Might just a matter if you want to commit the time to a "just okay" game.

It's not bad. It's not worth buying for $59.99 but once it hits the $34.99 used price it's worth it.

It gets better, but not much. Buy a shotgun, add an extra upgrade slot, then just power it up as much as you can. It speeds up the combat quite a bit. VERY MINOR ABILITY SPOILERS: You also get the ability to blow up your glaive when it's energy charged which tends to kill things quick. You can also turn invisible around level 7 (I think), which makes the game pretty fucking easy. You can turn invisible whenever you want and just run up and do finishers.

Hey, this aint too bad. Still a rental though.

RE5 could have taken a few pointers from this.

The price tag's alluring, but way too much about this game worked my every last nerve.

A for effort though.
There's nothing to justify spending money on it, but it's certainly not a bad effort.

Yeah, I rented this thru gamefly a couple of months ago and had more fun with it than I expected. Wouldn't mind a purchase if it's less than $15.

Finished this a while back. Solid game.
