Since when did ties get narrow again?

I was at Macy's on my lunch break and I like to browse the shirt and tie areas for the hell of it and I notice that out of nowhere (Because I was in a different Macy's on Saturday to get a new wallet) that neckties have now gone thinner but not as thin as they were in the 80s or early 60s. (Not that I'm asking for the days of 1970s wide ties with knots the size of my fist)

Anyone else just notice this?

You know how I know you're gay? You like to spend your lunches at Macy's browsing the dress shirts and ties.

Okay and what of it exactly? I like to think of the day I can get a Brooks Brothers suit. Jesus H man.

How would you define "faist"?

(Looks at submission)

Ah shit, I meant to say "Fist", I've just edited it to reflect that.

They started coming back about two years ago. I don't think they're in for business yet, they're still mostly a fashion accessory. Maybe if you wear a Boss suit every day or something, but I usually see them on TV personalities and the like.

It was funnier with the misspelling.

I'm still waiting for double ties to be fashionable.

Me too, but then I'm still waiting for my damn hover board.

Anyway, I think you should start wearing two at a time and see if it catches on.

Oh, and pics or it didn't happen.

I had/have a zipper tie.

I'm waiting for those hideous knit-style ties that were squared off on the bottom to come back into style. Then you men will know who's boss when all the women on earth point and laugh.

It'll be a cold day in hell when Bolo ties become fashionable around my town.

They are. Walk into your local J. Crew. Enjoy!

I'm horribly disappointed that 12 posts into this thread and no one's blamed Hipsters yet.

For shame.

You're just annoyed that hoodies & ties don't mix.

I thought that was more of a Gap thing?

Not in your "normal" world.

Excuse me while I find my matching gaudy Nike SB Dunk High Tops.

Never underestime the twisted fashion sense of a pop-punk band to do some shit like that.

Somebody get back to me when bolo ties are back in style.

Oh, and my hatred of ties in general is going into it's 41st year. Join me!

I'm with you on that, man. How the hell am I supposed to show off my chest hair with a damn tie dangling in front?

Don't wear a shirt with the tie?

What do you think I am? Some kind of hobo? I'm classy.
Wear it with a jacket then. Hobos don't have sports jackets and ties to go with their shirtless looks.
Really the only proper accessory for the shirtless look is a bow-tie.

I'm hip. Especially if it spins.

Ther ties aren't getting skinnier, you're getting fatter.
I for one enjoy the enormous knot look, but I'm too rotund to pull it off with most ties. Due to the amount of torso I'm covering, I need a pretty long tie to pull off the "slightly smalled than a fist" sized knot. A narrow tie on me, however, looks like a snake in the sahara.

Hard to say, I don't do a whole lot of shopping in the mall (I'm too tall for the stuff to fit), so I don't see that much. I will say that I'm seeing a steadily growing number of knit ties around the office.

Proof again that men in general have no fashion taste.

Except you, Vader.

Born to be a god among salesmen/Working the skinny tie
My dad worked in radio sales pretty much throughout the 80's. He had a closet full of skinny squared-off knit ties and awful suits. I'm not really looking forward to people dressing like the Hong Kong Cavaliers again.

I had a couple really thin ties I liked from the 80's that I was saving for when they came back in fashion, as I knew they would. Now I can't remember where the hell they are. Their time is apparently fast approaching. Damn and blast it all!

Never like the woolen tie thing, either, but you know what I'd really hate to see make a comeback? Thin LEATHER ties. Even when they were hip, I never liked them. Saw one guy in high school (it was a Catholic school, with a dress code; ties required) wearing one that had gotten so stiff, it was bent into a permanent upward curve off his belly; stuck out almost a foot in front of him.
