The Dirtbombs

Loud Detroit garage rock band, with two bassists and two drummers, fronted by Mick Collins. I've had their newest, We Have You Surrounded, on constant rotation for a few weeks. Got to see them play last night, and they totally kicked my ass. Just a completely killer show, with a couple of great INXS covers in the encore followed by an insane jam/freak-out. Go get the record, go see them play, then buy me some kind of present for recommending them.

Anybody else a fan?

Yeah. They're good.

Been a fan for a long time. As fine a rock n' roll outfit as is out there as far as I'm concerned. Pick up their record "Ultraglide In Black" it's a record of soul covers featuring an outstanding version of "Living For The City" and the version of "Chains Of Love" used in the trailer for "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly." Also pick yourself up "Ive Got A Baaaaaaad Feeling About This" by Blacktop. This is a collection of recordings by Mick Collins' post-Gories, pre-Dirtbombs group formed with Darin Lin Wood of 68 Comeback that was basically DOA due to Woods drug use. Oh yeah about the Dirtbombs? If you ever find youself late at a party that happens to have an equal amount of drunk men and women, slap on some Dirtbombs and watch what happens.

Excellent, thanks for the info Mad Man. I was wondering which album to pick up next. The only ones they had for sale at the show were the new one and some vinyl singles.

All their stuff is in print. "If You Haven't already Had A Look" is a collection of b-sides and comp tracks etc. Horndog Fest, Ultra Glide, and Dangerous Magical Noise are the other full length Dirtbombs LPs. Check into Mick's other stuff "The Screws" with Teri Whal (Red Aunts) and Dan Brown (Royal Trux) and "The Gories" It is cool that you are in the enviable position of hearing this stuff for the first time.

Excellent. I got to The Dirtbombs in kind of a roundabout way. I listen to Ko Melina's show on Sirius and picked up the album from her old band, Ko and the Knockouts. Checked her site, found out she was in another band, and here I am. That Ko and the Knockouts album is pretty good, too, if you haven't heard it.
