So, I'm picking up a few things at the store earlier and I go to slide my credit card upon payment and it says DECLINED. What the hell, I think. I slide it again, and get the same thing. After using my debit card to get out of there I call up CHASE to find out what the fuck is up.
After 10 minutes of waiting through hold music I get a fraud detection person who asks me if I made a charge for $15,000 to something called MICHAELJFOXFDN. I respond "uh, no." The guy proceeds to close my account and says I'll be issued a new card and receive it in 5 days. "Great" I say, "Why the hell didn't you call me about this? Why did I have to go somewhere and try to use my card and have it declines?" They had already declined the $15,000, as I don't have that much credit anyway, but they had no explanation as to why I hadn't been informed.
That Michael J Fox has some nerve. Takes my love of Back to the Future, and just screws me. Well that's the last straw, Fox! You hear me? I'm donating to the Pro-Parkinson's Foundation.
I guess the question is, am I a victim of identity theft by a very charitable thief, is this not the "real" Michael J Fox Foundation and they somehow thought that me being a wealthy philanthropist that I wouldn't notice, or did some idiot transpose a couple numbers?
Any which way I'm screwed. I've been trying to cut down on my credit card usage anyway, but my car is running on empty and I've got no cash on me, plus there are so many tasty DVDs coming out next week. I guess I'll be playing it cheap and relying on the check card for a few days.
