How would you rate the following artists based on three criterias - Lyrics, voice and music? Just curious...

Bob Dylan
Radiohead
Leonard Cohen
Jeff Buckley
Tom Waits
Joni Mitchell
Bruce Springsteen
Johanna Newsom
Nirvana
David Bowie

Every single one of your posts reminds me of this.

In that alone, I thank you.

Probably about 39, overall, I'd say.

That's bullshit Dave, and you know it. Joanna Newsome doesn't rate above a "B" and that's after the harpsichord bonus, so there's no way you can get to 39.

On the whole, I'd rate them R.

Springsteen, Mitchell, and probably Dylan and Buckley would merit a PG-13 were one to analyze their catalogs in their entirety, but the rest of these artists cross over into R-rated territory on at least a semi-regular basis, at least when they're not dead. No clue about the Newsom, sorry.

Hm. I think of Newsom as a solid orange level 7, but the song about the monkey and the bear might boost her (or drop her, depending on how you look at it) to a blue level 5.8. But I think the one-two punch of Springsteen's 15 star rating and Radiohead's 22 thumbs-up rating puts this whole group at least in the mid to high 30s, overall.

I wonder if Jaason is a distant relative of Waaaaaalt!.

You're both completely wrong. Your systems are meaningless until you take into account their respective credit scores. Otherwise, it's just numbers.

God.

Zooey, art is subjective. By quantifying it, you diminish it! Therein lies the flaw in your argument. Besides, Tom Waits has survived solely through bartering since 1997, which renders his credit score useless in evaluating his most recent albums.

Now Dave, I hadn't checked in on Radiohead since In Rainbows, but I figured they'd retain their previous 19 thumbs-up rating and their 3 thumb reduction when grouped with alpha-class folk singers. My mistake!

EDIT: For the benefit of all who will see this thread later, we are (of course) using non-Euclidean geometry and a base 7 system to come by these scores.

The one thread where LatinoInferno might actually be useful.

With Rhode Island being the lowest, and Alaska being the highest, I would give them a collective rating of British Columbia.

Did you guys all go to school with Maeby Funke or something?

From the moment this thread started, I knew someone was going to come in here, parroting that same tired, Rolling Stone reasoning. Try thinking for yourself before you argue with the big kids, junior.

Look, it may be a popular opinion, but it just so happens, it's the right one.

There's just no way to do justice to that "awesome"s delivery in text, but either way.... nice.

Nicely played but you forgot that according to the little used Canadian Rules you can't get to Mornington Crescent from Joni Mitchell in the second round following a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy reference.
