I don't think it's "better" than GTA4, in much the same way that Crank isn't "better" than No Country for Old Men. Crank is a hell of a lot more fun though. And I play videogames for fun, so I liked Saint's Row 2 more than GTA4.

I have yet to play it online though. I hope the online crowd for this game is a whole lot more... "mature" than that of the first game. I don't know if that's the right word for it, but I played the original online once, and got asked "Yo, what race is you?" by what sounded like a 12 year old white kid. I have no desire to repeat that feat.

Online co-op is a fucking blast.

Quick on the draw Rob.

If anyone from here ever sees me online, feel free to send an invite, or however the co-op works in this game. The only co-op thing I've done is the Fight Club, so I'd be looking for a way to get those achievements. Does anyone know, if I've already beaten the piss out of all the activities and most of the missions, do I have to go into someone else's game who hasn't, or can I get the achievements if they join mine?

It took me awhile to figure out how to do the Hitman activity.. So when you agree to kill a target, is it more than one target?

It is a fun game, I'll give it that. Almost like an arcade version of GTA.

You should have a list of targets at each Hitman location, and the list should include hints on how to find the target. Some of them can be a real pain, or just be buggy, and not show for you. The other night I got on just to rampage a bit, and ended up finding 4 Hitman targets. It's always fun to see the crosshairs pop up on the map.

I wish I could say. I'm downloading a patch and installing this sucker right now and it's making me violent.

I've just started playing this again. Quick question about the territories you gain from rival gangs...they don't force you to do random defend your turf distractions in this do they?

From what I remember the ‘push backs’ in this game are scripted. I think you have one or two per gang, but when me and Nate were dicking around doing side missions and shit for hours we never had to deal with any.

I don't know if they're scripted or not, but I can tell you that once you finish a final mission for a gang they no longer pop up in those areas. It's easiest to just defeat each gang one at a time to minimize those annoying distractions.

In regards to the hitman lists, there are multiple targets on each list with directions on where to find them or what actions you have to take to get them to come out. As mentioned, lots of them are triggered by just causing lots of chaos in certain areas so keep your eyes on your map in case a crosshair pops up. Also, about 1 in every 8 assassinations I found that the person I killed was only a decoy and I'd then have to try to complete the assassination with the true target nearby. Annoying, but not horrible.

My favorite assassination so far was when I got to the guy right as I got a message that a rival gang was trying to complete the hit before I could. Ended up in this giant shootout where I was trying to kill him before they could, and then I turned around and killed all the gang members for making me work so hard at it.

Also, I don't think there are penalties for not doing the pushbacks. I've let a region flash for hours without bothering to investigate it. You probably don't get any money from the region while it's "in dispute", but that's not too big a deal.

Yeah, whilst this is definitely more fun than GTA4 it's certainly a stretch for me to say it's better.

Co-op certainly helps.

Co-op is just unbelievably compelling. Nothing quite like tazering your buddy as you're hopping into a getaway car, then driving away, leaving him flopping like a landed fish to get pulverized by the police. Or, when biplaning to a mission, aiming the plane directly at a building then parachuting safely out while your buddy helpless smacks into the concrete wall.

Why does everyone always attempt to fuck over their co-op partners, it never makes any sense to me.

95% of the time you cooperate. But when the mission is done, or you're screwing around, it's Ronin-style v. Pimp-style time. It's almost impossible not to begin attacking each other when you both have the bitch slap glove that lets you send cars flying.

Just like competitive versus co-op multiplayer games, both can be fun.

Finding unique ways to destroy a friend never gets old.

Ever.

It must be an American thing
It depends who i'm playing with. Most of the time i'd agree with you Spike - but if my brother's involved, a little sibling rivalry over the internet can be a dangerous thing.

I've been having a great time with the game, but one thing I don't see is how people can say they like the shooting in SR2 more than in GTA4.

In Saint's I normally just pump rounds into my enemies until they fall. GTA4 had the whole cover system, blind firing, and pressure-sensitive aiming so you could squeeze off head shots. Not to mention the feature of being able to drop grenades AND throw them.

To me, SR2's combat just feels like a faster-paced, sloppier version of GTA4's. Still fun though.

SR2's combat feels like GTA3's
No, it feels like Max Payne's.

Without the slow-mo of course.

Just noticed this is the Amazon Video Game deal of the day. Only $35 new for the Collector's Edition for PS3 or 360. I'm tempted but I probably won't buy it until I can get it for under $30.
Holy shit this game gets fucking hard in it's last few missions. I have two missions left on the map, and this last Ronin missions has been a huge pain in my ass.

First I have to drive to a fucking dock to get a jet ski, only to be given a separate destination that I have to travel to, ON THE WATER, while a helicopter drops explosive barrels on my head.

I tried getting on land and driving there, but when you have six cars filled with Ronin, plus THAT FUCKING HELICOPTER... ugh.

Other than that it's a fun game. I've been buying stores left and right, I own every crib available in the game, and have completed every stronghold.
Hmm, I didn't have an issue on that mission, it's just all about figuring out the pattern of the barrel drops. It got close to me a few times towards the end but that was it. I found the start of the very last mission annoying but once you're in the attack chopper it gets pretty easy.

New DLC on April 16th. Three new missions, new weapons, clothing, multiplayer maps. Looks like fun.

Awesome! Hopefully Prototype will someday have co-op/multiplayer fun of the same ilk.

I got frustrated too, but it's inside the mall. Look around at the mall entrance inside.

Did this come out? I couldn't find it on Friday.

Was delayed a week. Look for it on Thursday.
Yes this mission is a real bitch kitty. took me forever to get through it.
Just got back onto this one tonight. Finally beat a handful of missions that I had hell with last time!
Bumping this thread to add my love of this game (I finally purchased it this month). Whoever said it was the sucessor to San Andrais was spot on, the look and feel of this game reminds me very much of an updated SA.

Am rocking as a woman at the moment (for some strange reason) with an 80's themed gang who drive The Dodge charger and Mini Style cars. I have a garage full of modded out cars - my favorate being my modified police car in gang colours with kneecappers and nitros.

Man I spend to much time screwing about in this game.
Still having hell trying to complete the Snatch and Drug Dealing missions to get infinite shotgun/SMG ammo. AAARRGGHHH.
Anyone experence random feezing on their game? If i play for an extended time (2hours) the game freezes and i have to reboot the 360. It's not happend on any other game I own.
Never happened to me. Here's hoping you don't need to be redirected to this thread.
That sounds more like a game bug than a console failure if it isn't happening with any other titles. I never had the game freeze that I can recall, but I do remember Saint's Row 2 having some strange glitches and issues from time to time.

When I was playing co-op I'd occasionally have the game freeze up on me. It'd happen maybe one in ten sessions and it'd be completely random. I think it's just a coding issue.
Something I noticed on the game last night. If you buy food from the Apollo's fast food joint the woman behind the counter says

"Have a great day ... ...so say we all."

It's the little things I love in this game.

Anyone found any of the hidden islands? The only one I have found just beyond the prison in a straight line, apparently there is a couple more.
I didn't even know there were hidden islands. Oh what's that, an excuse to fire up the game again?

Wait until you guys meet the fucking Godzilla sized rabbit which randomly emerges from the water. Have no idea how I trigged that motherfucker but it terrified me when I found it.
Thats awsome, gonna have to go look for that.

This game just keeps on giving.
