Compression Question

Hey all, I'm currently working to get a couple features cranked out on DVD using a DVD duplication service. They say that mass-duplicating dual-layer DVDs is currently impossible and only single-layer DVDs can be made in such a way. This is a little disconcerting because every time I compress a feature-length film out of Final Cut Pro using Compressor it's at least 4.5 gigs in size. Does anybody know what settings to use on Compressor to have the film still look good but also fit on one of those measly single layer DVDs with room to spare?

Use the H.264 encoder (.mp4) and custom the bitrate (I put it around 2400, but you can get away with as little as 1800 and keep good quality). You might also have to play around with the export resolution size (it normally shrinks it for some reason unless you tell it not to). From there, make sure your program you built your menu in understands the correct aspect ratio so it will un-squish it properly (Compressor automatically exports 4:3, but if you stretch it back into a 16:9 window it looks fine). Also, through a de-interlace filter on it! Almost everything that wasn't shot in HD needs a de-interlacing filter on it when using Compressor.

Hope that helps.
