Casino (1995) - Page 2

Finally saw this, and thought it was pretty great. I think the subtlety of the deterioration of the characters is underrated, each action compromising their relationships more and more- while the movie takes it's time, the pacing feels perfect for me, and you sink down and down with these people as they tear themselves apart. These people are gamblers, and they are meant to reflect Vegas, they just can't stop playing another hand.

The film is pretty gorgeous to look at, and the trademark dynamism of the camera work is as ever a fucking joy.

Casino is my favorite Scorsese film.

I really love Casino, and I don't understand much of the harshly negative critisim aimed at it. The acting is top-notch and Pesci does his job;moreover, I think Nicky Santuro is much scarier than the guy he played in Goodfellas. The only thing that nags me are the CONSTANT voiceovers... Scorsese makes it work but it's to excess here.

This is easily the only film where Stone justified her status as an actress, she's actually really really good. Better than she ever was before or since.

Absolutely agree. She nails the character's toughness and vulnerability(in regards her relationship with Woods' character) in the early stages, which increasingly gives way to selfishness and desperation. I don't know if it was Scorsese's influence, but she has never felt as real as she is in this.
