Roy Williams and the Kansas Shirt

I live in North Carolina. I'm a UNC Fan. I could care less that Roy Williams wore a Kansas shirt to the Final Game.

Is this as big a shitstorm outside of North Carolina as it is here?

Didn't watch the game and hadn't heard about it. Please tell me it's not leading the newscasts.

It was briefly mentioned on PTI yesterday.

As a North Carolina alum, I didn't really care for it, but it's not really worth getting mad about (as my Raleigh-dwelling friends tell me people are).

I don't know what the fuss was about. There's a lot of bitterness at Williams in Kansas, but the guy did live and coach there for over a decade. And all else being equal, don't you root for the team that elminated you to win the tournament anyway? Losing to the champion is one thing, but who wants to lose to a loser?

Personally, no. Not usually.

while it wasn't the top story yesterday on the news, its all anyone is talking about at work and around town. Since ACC basketball rules the area.

I'm a UNC grad, and until a friend emailed around to find out what we thought about it I hadn't even considered that some people might be upset. Dean Smith himself played at KU. Roy probably wouldn't be the coach he is today without his experience there. Setting that aside, so far Bill Self seems like a guy who is trying to do it the right way and, Larry Brown and Vincent Askew aside, KU is a relatively clean and honorable program. It's ironic that Roy, who clearly loves both KU and UNC, was the catalyst that swung us from "sister schools" to mortal enemies in many fans' minds.

The first time they cut to Roy wearing that sticker I wanted to fly down to Texas and punch that fucker in the face. After I had settled down from my burst of rage, I was ok with it. KU's win was a nice bookend for the Williams era. I just hope KU's donors have deep-enough pocketbooks to keep Self on the payroll. I'd hate to lose him to OSU, he is an excellent recruiter.

I guess it goes both ways. My initial thought is that athletes/coaches root for the team that beat them, while crazed college fanatics would hold a grudge. Myself, as an athlete would always admit defeat to a worthy opponent, and hope they win, so my loss wasn't in vain.

And it was a topic of conversation here on our local Lakers radio station in SoCal, and they argued a little bit and moved on.

After this...

I'll take a coach in any team's gear, just as long as he's fully fucking dressed.
