Hmm, he doesn't look very Persian. Perhaps they'll do a Robert Downey Jr. job on his face. What's it called? Persianface?

Yeah I'm having a hard time seeing Jake in this.

I just can't see this working, his open eyed clueless face and skiny frame would be a train wreck.

Khalid Abdalla(kite runner, Uninted93)
is a good choice as long as they beef him up

David Belle, David Belle, David Belle.

He looks the part, he's got the acting chops, and he helped to invent Parkour. Parkour, or free-running (as they called it in Casino Royale), as you all probably already know is what they're basing the whole movie around.

If you still have any doubt watch this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huv2sTalt7o

and/or check out District 13.

What's wrong with ol' Jake? A little hair dye, a little scowling, and a wardrobe rack full of International Male pantaloons... dude would look just like the cover art for Prince of Persia.

Why's everybody so racist?

Yeah, we know what parkour is. Thanks.

And have the people who are complaining about Gyllenhaal being too skinny actually seen the guy recently?

Edit: Oh, and B13: not a very good movie. David Belle: physical prowess, but no range.

To be fair, wouldn't he be more flexible if he wasn't big or heavily muscled? Thin would actually be better wouldn't it?

I'd throw in my two cents for David Belle actually. They wouldn't even need stuntmen.

Am I the only one that thinks its geek dreamtime if we think Jerry Bruckheimer is going to place this franchise on the shoulders of a complete unknown, regardless of what acrobatic dance craze he may have helped invent?

Gyllenhal's a pretty safe and uninspired choice, but I can see whay all involved would want him onboard.

Personally I reckon after getting a bit of prestige cred of late, Casey Afflecks due for a big popcorn blockbuster.

Obviously this isn't going to happen without an American star, and there aren't any big Middle Eastern American stars. Yeah, OK, you could probably put The Rock in some pantaloons and pass him off as Persian.

Otherwise, it seems like the logical thing to do, since they're aiming for the POTC crown anyway, is cast the (boring) lead as a middle eastern, and the inevitable Jack Sparrow sidekick role as the big American star. That's all I can think of in terms of not embarassing themselves on the casting here, anyway.

Since when is there an inevitable Jack Sparrow sidekick in PoP?

edit to add: oh and the great irony of that of course is Johnny Depp circa 10-15 years ago would be utter perfection for the lead.

I can see how this would be a problem for a Prince of Persia movie.

David Belle would be fitting. But I can´t see Disney putting him up as a lead in a proposed POTC successor.

And Gyllenhaal would be a decent, if somewhat safe choice.

Gael García Bernal is my choice for the lead.

Since Disney greenlighted the project.

I'm sorta kidding, but it would make sense and be predictable that the suits want to just make essentially the same movie set in an Arabian Nights world. I mean, POTC was already a pretty blatant lift from Star Wars, so we're not talking about stunningly original minds here.
