My music "non-reviews"...

For my top 20 albums, I figured I'd go all out and write these up.

It would have been a top 30, but I decided early on not list any band more than once. My taste is not on par with the general CHUD community, so there will be a lot of mainstream stuff. Also, I'm perpetually stuck in the 90's in my musical tastes, so most of the albums will be from that cursed decade.

They're writing practice, no more, no less, so don't don't expect some amazing musical insight(I'm no DaveB, that's for sure). It's more me playing around with a format, and going for a few chuckles while I'm at it.

And yes, they're on the dreaded Myspace. But no worries, you don't have to join that site from hell to read them.

I've done 4 so far, and working on the 5th right now. Expect 1 or 2 a week. Hopefully I'll finish the thing sometime this year.

20: Deftones - White Pony
19: Prick - Prick
18: Static-X - Wisconsin Death Trip
17: Stone Temple Pilots - Core

I will read them.

I think I am gonna like your taste in music from what I see so far. I am a big Deftones and STP fan. If White Pony is number 20 I would expect to see Adreneline on this list somewhere. But like you said your not much of a Deftones fan. Looking forward to reading more.

As for Mezmerize / Hypnotize, I made my own little 16 track CD from those two that works a lot better.

1. Soldier Side - Intro
2. Revenga
3. Radio / Video
4. Cocaine
5. Violent Pornography
6. Question!
7. Sad Statue
8. Attack
9. Dreaming
10. Hypnotize
11. Tentative
12. U-Fig
13. Holy Mountains
14. Vicinity of Obscenity
15. Lonely Day (only for the shredding)
16. Soldier Side

I just took those two discs and put them on a single 80 minute CD-R, I was surprised they fit.

Your mix is pretty good though. The "Soldier Side" intro/outro is one of the better things about those discs. Cool to see you left in some of the crazier tracks too.

Recent insanity has slowed me down a bit, and this one had me stumped anyway...

14: Argyle Park - Misguided

Someone in CHUD chat one night had actually heard of these guys, I wish I could remember who it was.

12: Alice In Chains - Dirt

These are getting worse and worse. Holy fuck I need to make it to the top 3, and fast.

Alice In Chains is such a great band! (Get the box set)

When did people start reappraising Stone Temple Pilots? I'm old enough to remember them being tagged as grunge knock-offs! I don't get the love!

I can't call them "knock-offs" just for the simple fact that they kind of showed up around the same time as that whole scene exploded. Basically I've loved them from the get-go, then kind of slowly lost interest over the years until No. 4 was released.

They kinda came with the second wave. The critics hit 'em hard outta the box. I can't lie. I had the first three albums. (Just don't get /agree with what makes them an alltimer for you!)
Nice write up anyways!

It's all good man. Like I said, I doubt most anyone here will agree with my taste anyway.
I just love the shit out of Core.

Thanks for reading.

And I am reading them, by the way, out of Chewer loyalty. I just don't have much to say because I don't know most of the music so far.

Don't sweat "Chewer Loyalty", if you have no interest, it's all good. Thanks for reading all the same.

11: Korn - Korn

Yeah, I like 'em, so sue me.
Especially back then. Now? Eh, not so much.

The first 2 albums are pretty good, after that they just started getting worse and worse. They did that piss poor cover of Metallica's "One" a while back that completely cut out the solos.

I agree on their cover of "One". All my favorite parts of that song... GONE. They probably shortened it by 3 or 4 minutes.
If they were gonna do a 4 minute Metallica song, they could've just done "Whiplash" or Trapped Under Ice". Don't chop up and butcher a good song like that.

10: Mr. Bungle - California

Holy shit I'm slacking, but I vow to finish this fucking list, even if it kills me.

8: White Zombie - Astro-Creep 2000

4 months, for that?! Wow, I suck.

Not part of my countdown, but I decided to do a Death Magnetic and Chinese Democracy double bill just for the fuck of it.

Hopefully this helps someone pass 5 minutes they'd normally spend having wild sex with a coked-up supermodel or something. I'm all about ruining someone's day, even if it's only a little bit at a time.
