Atlanta Film Festival

Anyone going to catch some screenings during the Atlanta Film Festival? They have a pretty good line up this year, including a number of movies I've been anxious to see or have heard good things about.

The documentaries look stronger than the narrative features, but they ARE screening Mongol and Son of Rambow, the first of which sounds good and the second of which I've seen and IS great.

I was really hoping to catch the premiere of Dance of the Dead, but it sold out, probably because it was filmed in Rome, GA and it's going to be a hell of a fun movie on Saturday night. Luckily it's playing again next weekend.

So, anyone else going to some films?

These are making me laugh, so I'm posting them here. Questions that Matchstick, Sweeney and I have come up with so far for Michael Rooker:

"Why were you so good in Slither?

"When you killed all those people in Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, that was just acting, right?"

"Are you named after the chess piece?"

"Why were you such a racist pitcher for the Braves?"

"Were you mad when Tom Cruise got to drive the Mello Yello car and you didn't?"

"Did it hurt to get dragged by that horse in Tombstone?"

American Teen was fucking great. I'm going to catch Nerdcore Rising and maybe an earlier show tomorrow. The line for the sold out Dance of the Dead tonight was impressive. I got a ticket for that one for the 19th--I hope it lives up.

A handful of us went to see Rooker. He was talkative, to say the least. He brought BBQ for the interviewer. He gave a half hour long answer to a kid that asked him if he had any advice for young actors.

Son of Rambow is a must-see on Friday for Atlanta Chewers. I'm probably going to see it again if I can get a ticket or a press-pass.

He also appeared to be on his way to a fishing tournament following the interview. Interesting guy, plus we found out he's going to be in a movie of the Buddy Bolden story.

Son of Rambow is a great flick and I've already got tickets for Friday. There's a Q&A afterward and apparently a party too! Maybe I'll work up the nerve to ask the director a question, if I can fit one in amongst all the budding filmmaker questions about 'what did you shoot on?'
