My wife is trying to remember the name of a book (maybe a series, not sure) when she was young.
Here are some of the basics she remembers:
The story takes place in the future, a kinda sci-fi setting.
The main character (maybe a PI?) is in (sometimes) love with this stripper with really long hair who used to be a man...who possibly has a Middle Eastern type name... every girl the main character likes turns out to have previously been a man (not really a major point, just an aside).
People can put chips in their heads with different attributes in them. For example, there's a chip that makes you not feel pain and a chip that makes you happy to do mundane work. The main villain is an old rich guy who sometimes employs the main character (and might be his father?). The old evil guy's fetish is to have sex with himself, so he has his sexual partner insert a chip that has the evil guy's entire mind on it.
She has more details if this doesn't jog anyone's memory, but they were pretty minor, so we thought we'd start with this.
