I figure that at least some of you might also love Matthew Ryan the way I do and might understand where I'm coming from. If you've never heard of his music, may I please suggest tracking some of his stuff down, posthaste.

I just bought his new CD, Matthew Ryan vs. the Silver State, and I'm sitting here kind of dumbfounded.

Maybe because I liked his last album, but didn't love it with the fervor I had his previous work, the awesomeness of this album knocked me on my ass. And I had start a thread here on CHUD to spread the gospel of Matthew.

I'm not one for writing reviews, but the greatest rating I can give something is that it makes my stomach hurt (the good kind of hurt - I can't explain it except it happens when I'm in the presence of something tremendous). This album twisted my stomach up in knots and came close to bringing a tear to my eye.

He's such an HONEST songwriter. In my opinion, one of the best songwriters working today. His voice is so lived in and weary, yet full of truth and acceptance and perseverance... and he is able to capture the essence of a situation or person in a manner that is so simple, yet so eloquent.

I could babble on all night, but I'm going to listen to it again, instead.

ETA: He also does a kick-ass cover of "A Rainy Night In Soho" by the Pogues.
