The Life Before Her Eyes Post-Release Discussion

From Vadim Perlman, coming out this week. Evan Rachel Wood grows up to be Uma Thurman.

Don't see it.

Honestly, it's the first serious contender for worst non-spoof film of the year. I put this thread out as an early warning for anyone who might be interested- please don't see this. It's astoundingly bad on every level, not a single scene works. And that's before one of the more maddening, obnoxious, audience-hating "twists" I've seen in awhile.

Just absolutely terrible.

What's the twist?

Spoilers?

The young girl died during the shooting, and the Uma Thurman portions are merely what she sees in a flash when she imagines what her life would be like. Except she clearly imagines her life as a result of her friend dying instead. Also, the film endures this last minute reveal like a supersecret twist, and implies that all that stuff did happen and that she eventually lived through it as a ghost.

HATE.

Not much of a twist, though. It's right there in the title of the movie. And Uma's husband does give her a necklace that looks like bullet wounds.

Why the fuck are you still here?

"An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" is still the best.

Wait, this movie is coming out in 2008? This sounds like a premise I would've found shitty ten years ago. This looks worse than The Forgotten.

Mom called it psychologically taut

Also: this was called IN BLOOM last year.

Perelman possesses the right amount of humorlessness to transform ATLAS SHRUGGED into one of the great unintentional comedies. I hope this makes tons of money.

I don't like Perelman, but you make a fair point about Atlas.

Actually, I think I disagree with myself. ATLAS SHRUGGED already is an unintentional comedy.

I'm a little late on this, but came to the exact same conclusions when I saw it. I was just fucking angry when I walked out of the theater. Especially considering that there were ideas in this movie that could've been worked into a movie 100 times better.
