I really think Steve just doesn't give a fuck anymore. The realization is dawning on him that South Carolina ain't going to be Florida, especially not in the new East. Shit, in his prime who'd he have to deal with? Gerry Dinardo, Bill Curry/Hal Mumme, Jim Donnan/Ray Goff, whatever crazy momo South Carolina was throwing out there. That's a retard convention, not a murderer's row.

Bobby Johnson is "technically" the worst coach in the SEC East but I'd be scared shitless if he actually had consistent talent to work with/and or Vandy wasn't in the SEC. Hell, I'm not too unsure that Vandy couldn't have finished in the top 3 in the ACC with Cutler and co a couple of years back. Richt, Urban Meyer, Brooks and even the idiot Fulmer has at least got something decent as long as he keeps Cutcliff...oh wait. Okay he's still got John Chavis to throw under a bus.

I think my Spartans are going to put together a 7-5/8-4 season. If they can go into Cal and win to start the season, I'm gonna be fucking psyched.

I don't know. The Big Ten has fallen pretty damn far.

What's the over/under on Ohio State making it to the BCS title game again this year, only to be summarily and hilariously destroyed by yet another SEC team*?

Anyhoo...

Not feeling too great about LSU this year. The quarterback situation is questionable at best (thanks for being an idiot, criminal, and general tool, Ryan Perriloux.), and I get the feeling Les Miles is going to continue his batshit insane ways (which, admittedly, served him well last season) despite not having the talent neccessary to make it happen. But I guess I'd rather have out-of-his-fucking-mind Les Miles than blander-than-cheap-vanilla-ice-cream Les Miles. Maybe.

Our first game is against Appalachain State, and I promise that if we lose that one, I'll never make fun of Michigan ever again.

*It's Georgia's turn this year.

At least Michigan took it to Florida last year (some redemption).

No way LSU loses the App State game, Les will have them prepared. Michigan lost that game because Llloyd didn't bother to prepare prior to or adjust during the game.

Yeah, I know. I don't actually think we have any chance of losing it.

But best to keep all possibilities open. I'm REALLY not feeling great about our QB situation.

YEAH! FSU beat 'Bama in the ESPN helmet challenge, Suck it punks, we won the whole thing!

Ok, reality time. First off, who gives a flying Florida fuck about helmets? No one. While ours is the coolest ever it still means jack shit.

Secondly, the bots won this. Both schools threw their CSU majors againts ESPN as the vote got into the millions. Yeah, FSU's nerds kicked the crap out of the 'Bama nerds.

Lastly, time to pick..FSU below...enjoy!

I love your posts, Smails! You'll get nothing and like it!

The Hogs are going to have a tough year, but I'm excited about it nonetheless. It's too bad Ryan Mallett has to sit out a year, but what can you do.

I'm thinking about heading up to see the FSU/BC game on 11/15 (Doak Campbell is the only stadium I haven't hit since I've lived in FL). Pretty excited as I haven't spent much time in Tallahassee.

Kentucky...Kentucky...Kentucky?!? Bah. ONE good year doesn't give UK a right to talk smack about anything. FSU had like 47 guys suspended for that game and we still made it competitive. And thankfully I have many more wanna be lesbian pictures from FSU to share this season. Besides, while FSU may be down in football holy crap are we still tops when it comes to good looking women and partying (only ASU may be better).

Hey Poulsonator, when were you last in Tally? If its been a while there have been some HUGE changes in the past 10 or so years. Pensacola Street around the stadium was torn down and is now a grassy walkway with a huge ass fountain. Dick Howser stadium was renovated to match the classic brick look of Doak Campbell and is absolutely beautiful. The Unconquered statue in front of the stadium is one of the coolest things I have ever seen (fantastic, giant sculpture where the tip of the spear is set on fire and burns throughout all home games and for other special occassions - like the recent Natl Championship in Track). And the changes to Doak over the past decade are great. If you get a chance take a tour of the new Moore center to see the Natl Champ trophies. Heismans, etc. There are bricks surrounding the walkway between the two stadiums with the names of all the famous athletes from the school. And this season they are debuting a new 3x the size of the old one scoreboard in the North end zone and ribbon boards around the entire perimeter inside the stadium.

Edit - here is a pic of that statue I mentioned:

When did you play Kansas Smails? Kidding...that KU thing gets on my nerves. It's UK! I could have gotten a team from my great-granny's old folks home and scored at least one touchdown on our defense last season.

And two good years sporto! Get it right damn it.

I sincerely apologize about the UK KU fiasco on my part. I edited my post above to fix that. And I freakin' hate Kansas State. What a poser football team that is. They always used to whine, whine whine about how they got no respect when they played some of the worst schedules known to man. And boy are they touchy about the "there is a Manhattan outside of NY!" thing. Posers.

Wow! Thank you for the info, Smails. I will print this off and use it a bit of a guide. I can't wait to see some of this stuff!

To answer your question, I haven't spent any time in Tally since 2001!

Got my FSU season tickets in the mail this past week. 8 home games doesn't dawn on you until you see the big ticket sheet.

Smails, you need tix for the Chattanooga game? I'm definitely not heading to that game. I've got two, and they're on the FSU bench side, 30-yard line, about 38 rows up. They're great seats, plus, they're the first to get into the shade as the day progresses. PM me if you're interested.

Poulsonator, I may be at FSU/BC as well. That's two days after my 40th b-day, and I usually try to hit the game around my birthday. However, Mrs. Martianman is supposedly cooking up a grand hoo-ha for my b-day which also could fall on that weekend. So we'll see.

No thanks MM, not making that game either. Appreciate the offer though. I got my season tix last Friday also. I sure hope they do a better job at scheduling games in the future. 7 home games is too many and having 3 back to back to back is just dumb. I think the first two games are going to be ghost towns.

The Gator boards are blowing up with "facts" about the rumors swirling around how the NCAA will penalize FSU around the cheating fiasco from last year. The Gates are claiming FSU will get slapped with "lack of institutional control" and lose as many as 10 schollys a year. My inside sources say it isn't nearly that bad and that we'll get smacked with 2-4 a year for 2-3 years. Sure hope my boys are right, yikes!
Yeah, isn't amazing that the same thing happened at ASU with the college baseball team while they were #1 this year, but how much did you hear about that?

Actually, I almost expect FSU to have this breakout year, only to be quashed by the NCAA with whatever ridiculous penalties they can come up with. If that stupid resolution they came up with for OU last season was any indicator, I'd be surprised if FSU isn't limited to 22 scholarships for the next 10 years.

Four days before the start of the Big Ten season and Time Warner finally agrees to show the Big Ten Network. Now I can watch Ohio State and Wiscy from the comfort of my own couch. I won't be leaving my house on a Saturday until December. Oh yeah.
Thats one the great things about college football. You can catch a good game all day between noon and midnight EST. I love watching the big ACC and SEC games early, catching the Big 10 follow-up, eating dnner with the ABC GOTW on and then laying in bed watching some Pac-10 scoring madness.

While 60% of the year I basically ignore FoxSports and the random sports channels on my TV, football season lets me enjoy the 97 FoxSports stations and all the regional sports networks. Hell, even ESPN the Ocho (U) has some decent games on. But their announcers are the worst on TV bar none.

Serious question...when is ABC/ESPN going to realize that their game and studio crews have some really shitty talent? I don't know who is worse between Jesse Palmer, Lou Holtz and Larry Coker. For the love of Xenu, hire some talent!

The Lincoln-Financial (formely Jefferson Pilot) broadcast crew is right up there in the worst crew, but I will take them any day since it means one more SEC game shown each week.

I'm off to the Georgia Dome for the Alabama-Clemson (Roll Tide!) game this weekend. There is a slight chance I will be meeting Mr. Joe Namath, so keeping the fingers crossed.

Careful, he may want to kiss you. On a serious note, the 60 Minutes expose on Joe was enlightening. Learning how he bent over backwards to support his kids after his wife crapped all over them really impressed me.

How many pick'em leagues do ya'll do? I'm in two, one Yahoo based and one based on a site we created. I like them both although they are very different. One has 130+ folks in it so its a bitch to win but if you win one week you easily cover your entrance fee.

I'm going to miss the Three Daves. What I will not miss is watching a game filmed with the same production equipment used for Y.A. Tiddle's games at LSU. But I do fear ESPN loading up all this SEC coverage with the same idiots they have now. What the hell does Pam Ward know about the Iron Bowl? Will they find a way to interject an Ohio State/Michigan/Whatever Big 10 team is the flavor of the second factoid into every broadcast? It's like watching college basketball on ESPN....ACC all the time. I swear to god they interjected a plug for Duke basketball into the LLWS Championship game. Ugghhh

South Carolina's offense looks like shit tonight and N.C. State's borrowed the playbook from my old Pee Wee Football team. They've set back offensive football 30 years.

SOONER or later Oklahoma will win their second bowl game under Bob Stoops. I say that Oklahoma will be great in 2008, win 10-11 games and finally win a 2nd bowl game after defeating Florida State for their most recent national title, then getting trounced by Pete Carrol's USC Trojans and of course...The Nicktator Saban then of LSU.

Sam Bradford will challenge Tim Tebow for the Heisman Trophy. Super Soph Sam threw 33 tds last year, all 5 starters on his OLine are back, and DeMarco Murray will be the next great Sooner Back. While he is not a power back like Adrian Peterson, Murray has great speed and is dangerous when either carrying the ball, catching it, or returning kicks. Go Sooners!

Yup, me too. I just noticed the same thing on my Comcast carrier. I've spent the last few days watching classic games, most of which I'd either seen or attended, and still I yelled at Henne for taking bad sacks and throwing three yard out passes on third and 8.
Spurrier running up the score on a gassed defense that stopped them at every turn for 75% of the game. Why am I not shocked?

South Carolina's best O last night was NC State's. South Carolina's Run D looks suspect and the Beecher era probably ended before it began. Christ he made Micheal Henig look All-Sec caliber. Vandy's got to be licking their chops right now.
Banks, as an Ohio State fan I was always fond of Henne's short passes on third and long. It was kind of endearing.

Edit: My father in law just bought a 65 in. HD TV. Looks like I will be leaving my house on Saturdays.

Plus it made it a lot easier for OSU fans to be able to add up his passing yards. After 20 it gets a little sketchy.

You guys need to calm down. I know it's hard to grasp these things as the forward pass only came to the Big 10 five short years ago.

These new and exciting concepts are going to be strange for awhile. You'll adjust.

Usually they give their fans 4-5 games before they implode. Nice to see they're getting it out of the way early this year.

FSU quite possibly stinks. Yet now we're in the drivers' seat for the ACC Championship Game. Awesome.

Wow, does the ACC suck ass. I love underdogs and watching/listening to the Pirates beat VT (hate, hate, hate VT fans) was great. I generally root for the ACC but I still like watching our enemies get beat. I despise Saban though and really wanted Clemson to win. But hey, they're coached by the second least talented Bowden coach. No way they would win.

Oh well, at least Michigan bit the big one.

I can talk shit all I want because we would have challenged for the Big 10 title last season. Truth.

In other news:

27-2 That's just total ownage and probably worse than a shutout because, technically, we scored all the points.

The ACC's license to football has been revoked. The Big East is on notice.

Beanie Wells is now up there with "foreign policy experience" of things I'm tired of hearing about. Enough already.

Well based on that argument, I guess they would have. I'm glad that the stereotype of SEC fans having over-inflated opinions of their football teams isn't true.

Kentucky Football has the gravitas of a hydrogen balloon.

Namath was a no show, so I didn't get to meet him.

The game was glorious, so I was too busy enjoying the beat down to care. What a terrific day. We were seated in the Clemson side of the stadium but it did not take long for us to feel like we had the whole side to ourselves.

We met a lot of cool Clemson fans around town and before the game, but I was really shocked at how quick they were to give up. Some fans were leaving before the 1st half was over. If your team is supposed to be a national contender, you have got to expect to take a few punches during the year and come back, not fold up like a cheap suit.
Raise your hand if you've beaten LSU in the last year?

I got nothing against the Big 10 other than the fact that it has been constantly overhyped and overrated by every network/pundit/media type for far too long. The Big 10 isn't the Sunbelt or Conf. USA but there's been a dramatic shift in power.

I make no bones about the history of the team I claim as my own or that it could possibly live up to the stature of a Ohio State but I do know that the SEC, from top to bottom, is a tougher conference than the Big 10 is right now and looks to be for some time. And I do know that there wasn't a team in the Big 10 last season that scared me or thought we couldn't handle. Maybe the Buckeyes in the Shoe would have been an L but other than that.....I would have liked UK's chances with say the Illini's schedule.
I guess those five losses never happened? We're not talking about two losses in a tough SEC, we're talking about five.

What planet have you been living on to say the Big Ten has been overhyped for far too long? It's more like, people have been dogging on OSU's high season ending rankings because, in the past five years or so, the Big Ten has been filled with mediocre to bad teams.
Raise your hand if you beat Florida last year?

Your wild sense of overconfidence about your team (Maybe Kentucky would loss to OSU on the road), is a prime example of why SEC fans are insufferable.

Sure it is, but how exactly does that give you all this trash talking currency you're claiming? It's like a trust fund baby ragging on the self-made millionaire down the street.

Although we no longer play Pitt, one of the loudest cheers in Beaver Stadium came when the announcer gave the Pitt score.

As for last night's Tennessee game, if this is the kind of football season we can look forward to, I am so very, very happy it's football season again.

I was at the Texas-Florida Atlantic game. It was a glorious beatdown. Also, the new upgrades and added capacity make DKR Memorial Stadium way more intimidating that it already was. 98,000+ in attendance. I can't imagine being the Florida Atlantic QB in that deafening roar, so good on him for never getting sacked and pulling off some truly great passes.

Texas' secondary needs work. Also, the LB's were tackling like shit in the first half. It should have been a shutout. Biggest surprise was Colt McCoy's rushing prowess (against a depleted FA line, but still). Fun game.
