Good co-op campaign games?

So a buddy of mine lost his job and got dumped/kicked out by his lady at the same time and is now sleeping on my couch until he can get back on his feet. Both of us enjoy co-op campaign games like the Halo series and Gears of War, but we've beaten all those several times and are looking for something else to play.

We've tried a few of the Tom Clancy titles (R6V & GRAW2) and the co-op campaign experience just isn't the same. Instead of just playing through the single player story line like the games I mentioned above, you essentially are just playing each level as a single mission. If you die once, the level resets. Which kinda sucks.

Can anyone recommend any other titles that have co-op campaigns similar to Halo/Gears (for any console - I have all three)? With the growth of the online gaming community, I know most game makers just aren't designing games with co-op campaigns in mind, but there still have to be a few good ones out there, right?

(And yes, I'm aware we can join the rest of the world and just play online)

My most favorite has to be Splinter Cell Chaos Theory.

For $6 used at Gamestop, I'll give that a shot. Gracias!

No disrespect Tieman, cuz I know a guy myself whose been unemployed and up to debt to his eyes. But this guy who is sleeping on your couch. It would be this guy would it?

Because this man will use your closet as a bathroom. However he'll be extremly resoucreful in case of hairy situations.

Nah. My homeless friend has even more hair.

But he's a ginger...

I'm an all-things-co-op kinda whore, so I'll do my best.

Obviously, you've already got Halo 3 and Gears of War. I suggest that if you haven't (and would like to) beat these on their hardest settings via co-op, do it, as it makes it that much more fun.

Some other titles that I've personally enjoyed on co-op are:
Army of Two
Crackdown
G.R.A.W.
G.R.A.W. 2
Ghost Squad
(really brief)
House of the Dead 2 & 3, The
Marvel Ultimate Alliance
Rainbow Six: Vegas
Rainbow Six: Vegas 2
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles

Some that weren't particularly the greatest but co-op improved the experience on:
Kameo
LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga
Perfect Dark: Zero

Some XBLA titles that support it:
Contra
Doom
Double Dragon
Gauntlet
Golden Axe
Streets of Rage 2
Super Contra
TMNT
Uno

Games I know do co-op but I haven't tried:
Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway
Conflict: Denied Ops
Kane & Lynch: Dead Men
(offline-only)

Upcoming games (hopefully he'll be up on his feet by then!):
Haze
LEGO Indiana Jones
Mercenaries 2: World in Flames

Oh shit, you better watch yourself now. Now did he at any point say that his freckles were kisses from an angel?

I believe Army of Two is online only coop. Kinda defeats what Tieman is going after.

Forget what I said. Here's a video with split screen coop.

Also, Wii has a lot of virtual console games that are coop. I've recently downloaded Gradius 3, great side scrolling action.

I had also heard Army of Two sucks, so I'm hesitant to drop $60 on it unless I hear otherwise.

It most definitely doesn't in co-op. Single player will get you bored after a while, but that game was built for co-op.

Sweet.

Goodbye paycheck.

Edit: Ooh, that video looks great. I'll be grabbing this today

A quick warning, though: it's short. I'd recommend rental.

Do not buy Kane and Lynch. Even second hand.

I dunno, I had a blast with Kane and Lynch even with the issues. Online was a nice diversion for a few weeks. A rental for sure.

Yeah, a reviewer was canned for giving an honest review. I'm sure you heard all the fallout surrounding this event.

Quoted for Truth. I haven't played the local split screen co-op with Army of Two, but having played both online co-op and single player on this game, I can honestly say that it's worth a used purchase or extended rental to play with a friend.

In fact it's quite shocking how much less I enjoyed this game when I played it alone.

(Edited to clarify what game I was referring to.)

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is a lot of fun, I'd definitely give that one a shot.

Crackdown really is a blast on co-op

Yeah I remember hearing about that one. Poor bastard.

I'll second the recommendation on Resistance's co-op, but i'm fairly sure the guy who started the thread owns a 360?

I own all three, but I already played, beat, & sold back Resistance. Doh.

ETA: I actually went and picked up Army of Two last night, but I got too drunk to play ($3 gets you 2 tall cans of Steel Reserve & a massive headache the next morning), so we'll see how things go tonight.

Go after Crackdown next. It's so damn fun.

Well, the nice thing about buying a used copy at Gamestop (*ducks and hides*) is if we finish it in less than 7 days, I can return it for full credit. Then I can try Crackdown.

In fairness, finishing Resistance in single player is pretty much on par for the co-op experience. Army of 2 actually feels like it's lacking something playing it single player.

I've been meaning to revisit Crackdown for a while now. The guy I usually co-op with and I got stuck into Gears shortly after trying Crackdown and it kinda dominated our playtime after that.

Plus it's one of the few 360 games I own that I haven't tried since I upgraded to the HDTV in January. Probably worth a look.

I picked up Marvel Ultimate Alliance last week for $20. I played it a bit but I still haven't really figured it out with all the leveling options and costumes and team bonuses and stuff. It's a tad boggling. I mostly just want to punch folks.

For what it's worth, my buddy & I finished Army of Two last night. Once we got a feel for the game flow, it was actually pretty fun and moderately difficult at a few points. It was delightfully cheesy at times (the fact that you and your partner have to kick every door open in unison and seem to be playing an ongoing game of grab-ass was pretty funny), and I really enjoyed the weapon upgrade system (I recommend one person saving for the chain gun and one having a beefed up assault rifle for maximum carnage). If you like co-op, this is definitely worth a rental.

And, since we beat it in less than a week, I'll be returning it to GameStop today and getting Crackdown for free. Huzzah!

Stories with happy endings like this always make me cry
