Can we cut this shit out, CHUD is one of the best places to talk about games largely because nobody cared about what system people were playing on. Recently PS3 vs. XBox 360 bullshit has started to creep into discussions. We're all looking forward to GTA IV, can't we just talk about the fucking game rather than how noisy consoles are?

Agreed - I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of "console war" arguments in this section when I first discovered it. I haven't noticed any extreme increase in posts regarding the subject, but in general it's much more conducive to good conversation to just focus on the games.

There aren't really console wars in here even now. Nobody really gets abusive, and most of the baseless criticism is quickly shot down.

None of the 3 main consoles are going anywhere - we're not going to see another Dreamcast situation.

Still, you did imply Sony were evil for suing Lik Sang - unlike microsoft. you're just as guilty of bias as the rest of us. That's all this is.

It seems silly to preemptively ban all discussion about which system is better, especially since every post I've seen on the subject has been totally civil and reasoned. Just because someone thinks PS3 is better than the XBox 360 or vice-versa doesn't automatically make it fanboy bullshit.

And speaking as someone who plans to buy a console soon and hasn't yet decided which way to go, the fact that these conversations can exist here at all (as opposed to the typical IGN-boards-style shrieking) is incredibly useful for me.

Well this does bring up an interesting point - I have a 360 and just for nerd's sake I also want a PS3, but I can't think of a reason big enough to justify owning BOTH. Little Big Planet looks gorgeous, but also kind of tedious, Home just feels like the Sims and I never got into that - is there a reason to own both?

Blu ray player?

God knows. There's no games on the PS3. The online network is free and crap. The 360 controller is better. There's not really any exclusives.

It's pretty quiet though.

Well yeah - the Blu-Ray player is a given, but part of me is convinced that MS is gonna negotiate a Blu-Ray peripheral for the 360 before too long since the HD-DVD fiasco and it will be much cheaper than the PS3.

It's all to do with downloadable content in the Microsoft camp at the moment. You won't see a blu-ray drive officially released this year at the very least.

I've got all three consoles. Sony made my decision for me on what GTA IV to buy. Until I heard about the 10hour DLC I still was swaying towards a PS3 GTA IV (like the playstation controller more than the xbox controller) but now I gotta go with XBOX 360. So, I'll be playing it on that noisy fucking contraption with the bulky damn controller.

My 360 has an awesome Eternal Sonata faceplate on it. It is teh awesome. Mine is best! It is so hot that the fans work into overdrive to keep it cool. My PS3 is ok... It's 60 gig so it likes PS2 games, but that's about it. Every so often it asks if it can borrow my 360's awesome Eternal Sonata faceplate. My 360 just laughs... causing the fans to blow harder!

edit: My Wii is lonely, but it is still awesome by association even though it has been plagued with No More Heroes induced insanity lately.

'My console is better than your console' comes from people that cannot buy everything and somehow need to have their choice validated as 'teh l33t', because of their low self esteem.

The question of which console is better, I can take or leave, they've all got positives and negatives. But the fact that Microsoft's got the best damn controller ever created is a matter of unquestionable fact.

Actually, that's a debate in itself. Over here, we pay £50 for a console game - and half that for a PC retail release. I know I constantly whinge about it - but that's close to $100 - no matter what our standard of living here, or our average wage, people in the UK are essentially bent over and abused senseless when it comes to console gaming prices.

True, shopping around can bring out better prices for console games. But the same applies to PC gaming, which I think could have been a better investment.

Plus PC gamers aren't used to paying for pretty much every bit of DLC, which is how it should be.

On the subject of the 360 controller, while I agree it's awesome - it's a controller designed for the majority audience - and particularly wasn't built with the southpaw in mind. At least the PS controller is universal - even if not the most comfortable.

I remember my last 'console war' argument: I argued that my system had more arcade game translations, while he argued that his was better because the sports games were more realistic.

Atari vs. Intellivision.

We were kids, which is why these arguments mostly occur. We obviously felt more happiness and pride in the game systems that our mommies and daddies bought for us.
