Austin Chewer Needs a Crowd

Hey, Austin-based Chewers,

I'm shooting a bunch of crowd scenes this Saturday and I'm shaking every bush possible to come up with people to make a crowd. (This is a micro-budget indie, so that's not terribly easy.) And I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in being a rabid religious right-wing protester, if just for one day.

We have two blocs of shooting: 8 AM to 12:30 PM and then 4:30 to 9 PM. We need people for any of those times and obviously no one has to do them all.

We'll do everything we can to make it fun and we'll ply you with lunch, snacks, and sodas (and a few T-shirts). I can't ptomise it will be the most exciting day of your life, but I'll give it a shot at making it so.

If you (or anyone you know) is interested, please PM me and I'll shoot you the details.

Thanks!

Damn, if you were shooting this Sunday I'd be right there for ya. Sadly, I'm working Saturday.

Thanks, man. I do appreciate it.

Fuck it, I'll come. By this time next month, I'll have spent 4 weekends in a row down in Austin.

Thanks, Jared! I PM'd you the details. You're the best.

Damn, and last night I made plans with my friend in Austin to hang out in Houston this weekend. Maybe I can swap it around.

It would be great if you can, but no worries if you can't. Thanks for the response either way. Chewers kick ass.

Send me the info. If I can swing by I will. Then I'll take advantage of a drunk Jared.

That's the spirit!

Incidentally, any of you guys know anybody with whom I can sleep to get a place to crash?

It's too late notice to secure a hotel room my usual way and I never...EVER pay full price.

We have a decent couch.

Ok, but I'm on top.

Kim and I are in for the 8-12:30 slot! Let me know where to meet!

Hey now, come to the later shoot! It has 100% more Jared!
Aw, ya poop. I would switch times now knowing that, but we've got plans that night...in Georgetown, of all damn places. Kim is a slut for festivals, and Kelly Willis is singing at the Georgetown Red Poppy fest. Not huge country music fans, but she put on a decent show the last time we saw her. I'm in it for the hot dogs and Lone Star.
Hot dogs and beer = forgiven.

You skated by Jochman!!

ETA - Also, Bayou...what in the world should I wear to this thing, anyway?

Dress relatively conservatively. Nothing with easy-to-sue-us-for logos on it. We'll have some T-shirts with the organizations logo on it to hand out as well.

Bring a coat or jacket to wear for shots. The scenes take place in November and December. (You can easily ditch the extra layer between shots.)

Do you need the couch?

Lowell
OK, so by "conservative" you didn't mean button-up shirt and dress pants (trousers!)? And "jacket" is winter coat, not suit coat, right? See ya bright and early!

Pretty much. A suit coat or sports coat would probably work, though. I don't think we'll totally convince anyone it's freezing, so something like that is fine. Button-up is good. Polo type shirts are fine. Stuff like that.

Gotcha. I had this whole Jehovah's thing going on, but I didn't know if that was right.
Yeah, me too...and I wear a mean suit. Thanks for the info.

"The Jehovah thing" sure brings up any number of images. I would definitely leave that on the table. If anyone wants to go wild, it is more than welcome. When I saw Last Temptation of Christ in New York when it opened there was a guy with an inflatable aligator strapped to his back and a sign reading "I'm Big Al from Hell! See you soon, Crazy Scorsese!". So, there's really no way to out-weird these types. If you have a special idea for something to wear: go for it. It only helps.

The couch is yours, sir. It will be an honor.

I'm heading into prep hell, so I'll be a little out of touch for the rest of the day. If you need anything or have any questions, give me a call or shoot me an email. I'll send my info to you by way of PM.

Thank you guys again! You are unbelievably awesome.

Fucking hell.

This is what I get for not reading other forums besides the main Chud board and the MMA thread.

Sorry we missed you, Banandar. It was quite a day.

Jared Melton and Jeremy Jochman (and his lovely wife) kick The Ass. All of our extras kicked ass today. It was just one of those days: potentially disastrous and turned out to be a great movie-making day.

The Chewers put the cherry on top. Thank you guy so, so much!
Our pleasure, man! That was, oddly, a really good time given that I can be a bit camera-shy. In hindsight, I was thinking of different ways to play up the nutjob aspect all day. Why did I not think to bring a bottle of fake tears?

Give a holler any time you need another pair of stand-ins!

Anyone who free-drops to their knees on the asphalt and goes pray-crazy on camera is far more than a stand-in, man. You guys were the best. I'll let you know about more stuff.
Sorry I had to miss it. The morning conspired against me to ruin any chance of coming out.
Just remember Lowell...if the boom happened to pickup bits and pieces of the Time Warp or any "Praise Cthulhu!" ...jjuuuuuust ignore it.
Hey Lowell, how goes the rest of the production?
Lowell (Bayouradio) could use a screamin' mob again this Saturday, May 31, if you're available! This was such a great time before that it would be impossible for me to say "no".

This Saturday (the 31st), we’re shooting the final scenes of Holy Hell, the movie we’ve been making for the last couple of months. We’re almost done and we managed to save a huge protest scene for the last day of shooting. Fortunately it’s a short and funny one.

We need as many people as we can get our hands on for two hours. 9 – 11 AM. The scene will involve a lot of yelling and carrying on (our protester alumni such as Shawn Sides and Margaret Hoard have given the experience glowing reviews) and will be capped off by everyone chucking popsicle-stick crosses at Jason Newman and Doug Taylor. Like you’ve never wanted to do that even if it wasn’t on film.

But most importantly, it’s only for two hours. Not all day. Get in. Yell, throw a cross. Get out.

We really need as many people as possible, so if you aren’t interested, please pass this along to someone or anyone you think might be. Everyone will be treated well. We’ve carefully built a reputation for such over the production and it won’t be any different on Saturday.

The particulars are below. If anyone is interested, please email me at this address and tell me so. We’ll put you on the list and start being grateful.

And EVERYONE gets credit in the film.

Thank you for listening.

Lowell

Aaaaahhh!! I wish I could cooome!

I'm in Dallas for A-Kon all weekend, however, and it looks like you bastards get to have a two hour bonanza without me!

Jeremy, give Lowell my best, wouldya?
Will do! I'll even try to swipe ya a popsicle stick cross for ya.

Howdy, fellas.

Well, we wrapped principal photography yesterday evening. It's all more or less in the can, minus a few pick-ups and bits to be grabbed later. But it's pretty much on to post now.

Thank you all for helping out on it. I can't tell you how cool it was to have you involved. Jared, I'm sorry you couldn't make it on Saturday. You missed Jeremy getting bumped up to a featured bit. It was a blast and I will probably never have so much fun ducking flying crosses as I did this weekend. Though you never know.

Most of all, thank you. Productions like these only get finished because of the good humor, graces, and generosity of people like you. We were the recipients of so many favors, breaks, and solids it's almost too much to keep track of. (Though we have, which is why our credits will rival LOTR for length.) Thanks for being some of those people who we will forever be grateful for.

(And now that I have more time to see movies and hang out online, hoipefully we can put together another excursion to Alamo-land soon.)
