Oh. Hell. Yes.

I'd also say something disparaging about the fact that 35 old series are being resurrected, but fuck that, one of my neglected favorites is getting an upgrade.

I'm going to be very sad if I'm alone on this one.
But they lost the jumpsuit? It ain't Splatterhouse without the jumpsuit.
You aren't. Here's hoping Bonk, Kid Icarus, and Strider are included in the remaining 34.

*EDIT* One of them is Earthworm Jim. God yes.

That's one of the ones I'm extremely worried about. I still bear the scars of Earthworm Jim 3D.

I hope they keep it 2D, or at least have it be a side-scroller with updated graphics like Bionic Commando Rearmed. Some games definitely lose their charm in the transition to 3D.
There's no way they're going to make it a 2d game, unless it's an XBLA title.

But man, Splatterhouse.... I'm trying to dig up details on this now. I need a new Splatterhouse. It does suck that he doesn't have the jumpsuit- dude looks like Vlad from Hack/Slash now.

Hey, a guy can dream, can't he?!
Yeah, trust me...a new 2D Earthworm Jim? I'd be there with you on opening day, launching that cow to the moon. But we all know it ain't going to happen in a retail game....
You are right, of course, although I will say that a 2D version would make a decent XBLA game. I'd easily drop $10 for some cow-launching action.

I wonder what the ratio of decent-to-shit will be for these 35 properties? Considering the popularity of Pit in SSBB, I think Kid Icarus has a good chance of becoming a decent Wii/DS franchise.

I'd pay $10 if they just ported the Sega CD Earthworm Jim Special Edition to the Arcade.

Also, much as I'm sure I'll enjoy next-gen Kid Icarus, there's another part of me that's going to resent it for not being next-gen ActRaiser.

Not having ever played the originals, I got a good chuckle out of the progression of box art for these on wikipedia.

Oh. Oh my. Oh my god.

I need this now.

And Alex fuck yeah for an earthworm jim game.

Blocky saw hands. How infinitely fascinating.

People actually like the Splatterhouse games? I mean other than gore-obsessed pre-teens?

I pity you if I really have to explain the joy of splattering an oozing zombie corpse against a brick wall with a lead pipe.
My roommate was friends with a kid who owned the Splatterhouse arcade cabinet. He was a spoiled rich kid and pushed it off of a second story balcony during one of his tantrums.
I've never played Splatterhouse and downloaded it over 2 months ago on the Wii. But I still haven't tried it :\
post #19 of 69
Maybe that's just the dude's super form, like the one in Splatterhouse 3

I hope your roommate killed that insolent little fuck.

A new Splatterhouse game? Friggin' awesome!

Most TurboGrafx games suffered from horrible box art. Splatterhouse was no exception and the sad thing is that it was actually better than most. It was a great little system but the box art had me scratching my head for years. Even my poor little junior high school brain knew something was amiss.

But a new Splatterhouse game? Cool. Thanks for the heads up Justin. It has potential to be a great horror themed game if done right. Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Fatal Frame, Condemned... Splatterhouse? You never know.

I'm curious to see what other old games will be coming back.
reading this thread made me smile. I just remember the awesome sound of swinging your bat and splatting them against the background wall.
How do you make a game like Splatterhouse these days? The only thing that set it apart in the late 80's was a level of gore that far surpassed anything to date. Not so easy these days. And in terms of gameplay, all Splatterhouse amounted to was a twenty-five cent horror show. A decent amusement for a 13-year-old me, not a $60 Xbox game. I'll still keep an eye on it. Anything that promises wet monster parts a-flyin' is at least granted a minute of my audience.
I remember revisiting the Splatterhouse 2 ROM when Genesis ROMs were first being developed. Fond memories notwithstanding, S2 has aged very, very poorly. 3 was a disaster.

Still, there's potential.

Now the Contra: Hard Corps ROM? That's another story.
As much affection as I have for old-school Splatterhouse, this seems kind of pointless. Without adding some sophistication to the mix it won't be able to compete with other modern horror games, but in doing so it won't be Splatterhouse anymore. Might as well give us another Evil Dead game, at least that way we can hear Campbell do Ash some more.

Hmm, so that's where Goosebumps got their title design from.

Seeing that hockey mask reminds me: I hope they announce a next-gen Friday the 13th, only this time it's, you know, fun to play. And, Hell, bring on A Nightmare on Elm Street, and be sure to feature the 4-player co-op again.
Could this be the game Kane Hodder mentioned he was doing mo-cap for? I love Splatterhouse and Earthworm Jim as much as anybody else, but I think we all know 95% of these updates are going to suck. Hard. Splatterhouse was one of the first games I downloaded on the Wii's VC, and I got bored after ten minutes or so. I have no idea why I put so many hours into that game as a kid. Oh, right. Blood.

EDIT: Give me Earthworm Jim DS. Only way I can see it working.

Whoa, those muscles are near Liefeldian proportions.
Check out the third shot. His muscles have been ripped into and chunks are missing, showing exposed bone.
Near? Those are Liefeldian proportions.
Also, a somewhat 'GDT-Hellboy' inspired location and baddies.

Maybe that's how you tell your health level, by the graphic deterioration of your body. Great screen shots.
So far this looks incredibly generic. I hope this is a small part of the locations you'll spend time in and these creatures are not indicative of the design work.
The sprite textures aren't bad, but everything else looks like shit.
The official press release on Splatterhouse is out now and has a few new images.

It looks like there's going to be a kind of crazy regeneration mechanic. So as you get injured pieces of your body are going to get ripped off and stuff and to heal you'll see the skeleton, muscles, skin, etc. regenerating.

First trailer's out.

Looks pretty fun for what it is--reminds me in the best possible ways of Mark of Kri--but I don't think anyone ever gave Splatterhouse credit for how genuinely creepy and disturbing it was when it needed to be. One of my favorite bosses in the series was in the second game: Four strangled fetuses hanging Suspiria-style from a ceiling. Not asking for a whole game full of that, but this new one just looks painfully generic in that respect. Maybe it's the nu-metal.
I've got an article coming with a brief chat I had with Gordon Rennie, the author of the script. He's happy with the way the horror turned out on this one.

I definitely dig the look of the trailer, but wish there was a demo we could try out... this is the kind of game that'll live or die depending on how fun it is to smash your enemies.
Really, if this game is just a God of War rip-off with a horror aesthetic, I'll be happy. Maybe not spend $60 happy, but "buy it when it comes down in price" happy.
Game went gold, right? I wonder if the developers getting shitcanned will delay it much.
Whoa, Verbal? Where'd you come from?

It didn't go gold yet, though. And it might be later than we wanted- http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/new...hp?story=22220
post #46 of 69
Yeah, was able to log in after not being able to for so long. Good to be back.

But yeah, I had heard it was maybe close to gold but i'm sure we won't see it for awhile now, yeah. Was pretty harsh what happened to those guys.
Big bump! Looks like the new developers have been working hard. Some new screens- http://chud.com/articles/articles/23...USE/Page1.html

I'd like to see the updated engine in motion first, but it already looks miles more grimy and cool than it did before.
I'm definitely into playing a mindless, bloody brawler like this, but it's going to rocket to the clearance shelf. They'd do well to release this before the fall titles start rolling in.

The original three are unlockables.

Yeah, that may be worth $60.
