Sleuth Channel Does It Again: Robbery Homicide Division

Hot of their success from showing the "Magnum P.I." with Frank Sinatra in it the Sleuth Channel has decided not to rest on their laurels. Starting May 8th they will begin airing the Michael Mann-produced/Tom Sizemore-starring series "Robbery Homicide Division."

Ah yes, the all-consuming smoldering that is Sizemore and Bill Duke on DIGITAL VIDEO!

This show was great while it was on, but I'm pretty sure I only caught around 5 episodes before it was pulled. How many were shot?

I really gotta get Sleuth...

13 were made, but not all of them aired during its original run.

I remember watching this show.

Wasn't Barry Shabaka Hensley (the heavyset black dude that Tom Cruise's hit man offs in the jazz bar in Collateral) in it as well?

Yes, he was a regular along with another Mann-friendly and all around awesome actor Michael Paul Chan.

I think it is quite apropos that as soon as I start reading this thread Moby's God Moving Over the Face of the Waters begins playing on streamingsoundtracks.com .

Now that's a cool coincidence.

I have to check and see if comcast is carrying Sleuth. Robbery Homicide will really take the edge off of my serious lack of new Michael Mann stuff to watch.

Having one of these each week has really helped pass the time during this Shield-less summer. The one that aired this last night guest-starred Tom Towles as a crazed white supremacist who gets out of jail after a nine year stretch and immediately goes on a crime spree. Plus, Towles' character chews gum a fair amount of the time so the episode sort of played like a prequel for the white supremacist he portrayed in MIAMI VICE.

Thanks, Sleuth Channel!

Damn, I miss the Sleuth Channel. I used to crash at my sister's place regularly, and finding that this channel existed on her satellite deal was like opening a treasure chest. Robbery Homicide Division isn't on DVD yet, is it?

Nah, not yet. That's why Sleuth has been a godsend for this show. I wouldn't put "RHD" on the level of "The Shield" or "The Wire" but for a network show it's probably the best cop drama of recent memory. Sizemore is like a slightly toned-down version of Pacino from HEAT and the stone-face on Barry Shabaka Hensley is a thing of beauty.

I really need to start watching this again. Earlier this month I switched from Time Warner cable to AT&T and they have this channel.

RHD was a decent show but I couldn't stand Sizemore - he's such an annoying actor.

Sizemore is great here. Film-wise I've always considered BLACK HAWK DOWN to be his last moment in the sun. But in terms of acting in general this show was his final hurrah. Seeing him here makes me all the more hopeful that he can get his dung together and slowly claw his way back to the mainstream.

anything is possible but after seeing his short lived reality show, I suspect his career is pretty much gone and will most likely be stuck doing Direct to DVD filicks from now on.

Can you download stuff from Sleuth? No such channel here in the UK.

I don't think so. Maybe it'll end up on Hulu at some point.

Great show, which Sizemore's escapades did in.

Towles was good, but I actually preferred Mario Van Peebles as a dirty LA cop.

Towles was a great one-shot bad guy. He was just chilling in his episode, especially with the woman who was his penpal on the inside.

Van Peebles was terrific in the couple episodes he did. Sort of felt like they were grooming him to pop up every once in a while to butt heads with Sizemore, whether he was gonna be put away for murder or somehow skate.

Two weeks ago they showed one with William Russ, who was so good in the first season Vice episode "Evan," as a scumbag lawyer. It's too bad that guy will be best known as the father from "Boy Meets World." Guess it's not too bad for his bank account but that guy is a solid actor.

William Russ' best roll was Roger LoCocco on Wiseguy. That's where I will always remember him from. "Buckwheat"

Yeah, this needs to wind up on Hulu.

One of the unaired episodes had Robert Hays as a suicide bomber on the L:A subway who runs into Cole...would've liked to have seen that.

My favourite episode was probably the one where Sizemore was deep undercover, and falls for Marie Matiko....Sort of the bare bones plot of MV, and excellent work by Byron Mann as the behind-bars gunrunner.

When it first aired I only caught a few of them. I'd forget to record one here and there and before I knew it the show was yanked.

Sleuth is gonna air all 13 sooner or later. Looking forward to that one with Robert Hays.

This is really bullshit. CBS should put the complete series on DVD because I don't have that damn Sleuth channel.

Just watched this one. You're dead on about the MV comparisons. Nice to see Sizemore ditch the suit and drive around in a flashy car.

Just got the digital cable about a week ago, and I've been catching up with this series. Really great to get 5 episodes a week, but it's too bad that's going to run out soon. LA looks absolutely fantastic in this series.

Just caught this one from last night. I couldn't believe how much that was like Vice! Everything from the hookup with the Chinese contact to the shootout finale (with snipers!) made me feel like I was watching a shortened version of the film. I may be wrong here, but I believe the episode was even written by Mann, or at least a 'story by' credit.

Also, I couldn't quite be sure of it, but I believe the area where the final deal went down is the same place where Pacino realized DeNiro had just 'made' him in Heat. The show was at night and the film during the day, but they looked awfully similar. Just thought that was a cool little touch...
