Liz Phair signed to indie label ATO (Radiohead, My Morning Jacket, David Gray) and is planning to re-release EXILE IN GUYVILLE on June 24th with 4 unreleased tracks including a DVD documentary to mark the album's 15th anniversary. She's also recording a new album due for a fall release. More details:

Her Billboard interview was quite revealing:

The most intriguing quote from Miss Phair:

I missed being on an indie. I never wanted to go to a major in the first place, but Matador basically sold me to Capitol, and when they divested, I was left there. It has been a long time since I could do what I wanted. When I was on Capitol, I tried to adapt and make the best of it, but I can honestly say, for the first time in 15 years, I feel creative. I don't have to start with a mindset that thinks about how to sell the record and works backward.

I hope she regains her freedom and creativity and gets back to the basics that made her so unique and viable to begin with. I did like her self-titled disc, but her first 3 albums are classics in my book. The last 2 aren't on the same level, but considering how much she sacrificed while recording both of them, they're much stronger (mostly on a purely musical level) than many give them credit for.
