Darksiders: Wrath of War - Page 2

The Silitha fight sucks because of the stupid Abyssal Chain suddenly deciding that it can only fire certain distances when it's not aimed at one of the blue/orange tethers. Little moments like that are what make me give this game a 7.5.

I'm only four or five hours in, and it's ok so far. I love how everyone calls this a "Mature" Zelda, because although it's gory, it's also really fucking dopey. Zelda for manchildren.

For what it is, it's entertaining. If you really needed another find keys/acquire objects/air combo/weapon upgrade/glide jump platformer, then I guess this one of those games. I'm not sure how much I needed it, personally, but there are definitely some fun moments.

I actually liked the intro. It had some neat little flourishes, like the news scroll that reads "DEMON COMETS STRIKE MANHATTAN!", that make subsequent levels feel like a dreary slog. I'm in the lava cathedral, and I'm loathing the derivative pushbutton puzzles. I'm really hoping this is the game's nadir.

Oh, wait until you get to the Dark Throne. You'll be so overjoyed you'll probably shit your pants.

I felt the Cathedral was fairly indicative of the full game. By that stage you've got a couple of weapons to play with, a couple of enhancements, it's very Zelda, the puzzles are ok-ish, the combat is ok, a decent sub boss and an annoying boss. That's how most of it has been.

And yeah, I've heard the Dark Throne gets pretty frustrating.

So I should probably stop now.

It's gotten worse in the last few years, but especially recently, puzzles in action games are digital ennui for me. They're often so uninspired, and feel like nothing but manufactured ways to break up combat sequences. When War enters a huge room and the camera zooms around to show us all the buttons and doodads and chains and switches, my heart just sinks because I know I'm going to be trial and error flipping shit for fifteen minutes just to clear the room.

Yeah, you kinda didn't love Uncharted 2 either, right? I can understand that if you hate puzzles that much. You bastard.

Yeah, it's certainly not a mature game, it's just a M rated game cause of BLOOD, MOTHERFUCKERS! Kinda like God of War. It's a R rated comic book action game and I'm still digging the hell out of it. I love how seamless the game feels. No real loading screens, just roaming into these big-ass destroyed areas.

Fun game.

Not to derail, but the Uncharted 2 puzzles aren't a highlight for anybody. They were fine, and just rare enough to not be annoying, but nobody raved about the wheel rotation puzzle or the statue positioning puzzle.

I found a demo of Darksiders on XBLA last night. I was really excited because I've been wanting to play the game, but I haven't been able to purchase it yet. The demo was awesome in two respects. First, it only cemented the fact that Darksiders was a game built exactly for me. All the gameplay ideas that it borrows are from some of my favorite games. I especially like Zelda games, so Darksiders should be right up my alley.

The second reason the demo was awesome is its length. They put an entire dungeon in there. I played the demo for a little over an hour and a half before it was done. I am assuming that it is the first dungeon in the game. I was pleasantly surprised at how much content the demo had.

If you liked the demo you'll probably love the game. It's a good demo but it just seems silly to put it out so late after the release.

Anyone else here anything new about their free copy of Red Faction? I still haven't gotten any kind of shipping confirmation from THQ.

I also thought it was a bit weird that they put out a demo so late, but better late than never, at least for me.

As if I wasn't tempted enough to get the game, that free copy of Red Faction makes it that much more difficult to hold out until "I can afford it". I've kind of been jonesing to play that game again, and I'm kind of sorry that I traded my copy in a few months ago. I wonder how many people are still playing the multiplayer stuff though. It was kind of tapering off a bit at the end of September, so I bet MW2 outright killed it. It's too bad that Red Faction didn't get a bigger community behind it. I had a ton of fun playing it this summer, especially with other Chewers.

I ordered my copy of RF:G on the day they announced the code's purpose and haven't heard shit either. I'm gonna go check the old PO Box this weekend and see if anything showed up.

Demo sold me on this one...and so did with everyone cause the game is sold uot everywere here in my country, dammit!

Finished it. Sort of mediocre finish. I had collected all the pickups (weapon enhancements and the armour) and the final few couple of bosses were extremely easy. It was strange considering how much trouble I had with the first boss, Tiamat (bat thing).

The last thing before the final boss is a scavenger hunt. They repopulate the areas with harder creatures which is nice. It's still a bit of a lame way to end the final stretch.
Tiamat was the most fucking difficult boss fight I've played in a long time.
Shit... Tiamat is the boss I stopped playing on last night. I played my friend's copy of the game as she side-seat gamed beside me. Even as someone who has been out of the console video game world for several years, this felt ridiculously derivative since I've only recently played the GOW series. But playing with a friend watching was fun. I also groan when the camera roams a dungeons showing what puzzle fun is in store for me. Ugh.

I hate the gas dude.

I really suck at juggling the 'ninja star,' the bombs, and aiming between all of them to hit Tiamat.
If you can get past Tiamat, then it becomes less frustrating but remains an average game with the odd sparkle here and there. And the gas dudes don't come back very often either.
Yeah, it was actually pretty much a breeze once you get by Tiamat, but jesus christ that fight had me practically in tears.
