Oh please the history of modern music has been innovation by marginalised cultures and races and appropriation by the mainstream white western musical community.

Duffy is simply another in a very very long line going back to Elvis singin' the blues.

No ones dictating anything, but to pretend there is no cultural and historical context to performers like Winehouse, Joss Stone or Duffy is simply being willfully ignorant to score a point in my opinion.
