Scott Pilgrim

I know this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find anything directly about the books. I grabbed the first few Scott Pilgrim books in the series today, and it's really damn good. Much funnier than I thought it would be as well (Rating: Awesome had me laughing pretty hard).

As far as a story about a guy getting over his girl the book is well written, and the references to the writer's hometown (Toronto) are damn good. Plus, for me personally, they strike extremely close to home and help me relate better.

I won't get to finish the series until I make my way back to the comic shop, but I can't wait to finish it. Definitely excited to see what Edgar Wright does with this.

I just finished the third volume today and can't wait to pick up #4, it's got such a great charm to it and the poses, effects and videogame logic always give me a smile.

I just wonder how Wright will shape and mold this into an initial film, If he'll compress the books and how surreal he's willing to go [Spaced certainly makes him a perfect fit.]
Wright mentioned in an interview ages ago (on CHUD I think), that he was going to keep in all the facts and statistics that pop-up around characters, as well as having loads of freeze-frame jokes. Stuff like that gets me extra excited for it.

Hell, it worked for Feast. I'm sure Wright can pull it off.

I don't suppose anyone knows when book 5 will be released? I just finished 1-4 and I'm really looking forward to the next one.

O'Malley is aiming for before Christmas.

From his site today:

We are planning to reveal the cover art, full title and release date for SCOTT PILGRIM VOL. 5 at San Diego Comic Con later this month. Details on when, where and how forthcoming (note: I have no idea as yet).
I was more psyched for the release of Scott Pilgrim: Vol. 4 last year than I was for the last Harry Potter book.
Pretty much all I want to hear out of Comic Con is when we get Vol 5.
I can imagine the title and cover reveal will recieve greater praise and applause than the time when the EP III title was revealed. And I was there for that.

Now I wonder if anyone cosplayed as Pilgrim or his crew for the panel?
The sad part for me will be how excited/turned on people will be by news of yet another "major plotline" or "crossover" than new Scott Pilgrim. Still pretty excited by any new Scott Pilgrim news.
Exactly, anytime is a goodtime for Pilgrim news.
Dang, I'm going to have to buy these, aren't I?
Yes, yes you are.
Anyone want to take a stab at what we can expect in the next volume? When we left off, things seemed to be going quite well for our hero and his gal. If this were a romantic comedy, the next volume will be where everything falls apart.
A friend of mine pointed out something I'm wondering if O'Malley will do. That being, the 1-Up Scott got earlier. I wonder if he's going to get killed by one of the ex-bf's and then have to "play" a part of the book over again to get back to the fight.

Anyway, I'm super excited to find out just the TITLE of the next book, that's how much I love this series.

Saturday of Comic Con. 5 PM. Room 3. Cover will be announced. All will be good and right in the world.

Good theory. Maybe the title will be "Scott Pilgrim is Dead".

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Scott Pilgrim series.

....that is all.

February 4, 2009.

Man, Ramona looks pissed! Still can't wait.
First time a Scott Pilgrim cover has actually suggested anything interesting about the contents, too.
Is this the first outright non-happy looking cover of the series?

Officially beyond excited. February!!!

Envy.
Vs. The Universe? Sweet jesus that's a heavy load.

Meanwhile, will other questions be answered such as whether or not Wallace Wells continues to walk around with no pants on?

So damn ready. Time to bust out the books for a quick read this weekend.
That artwork is substantially slicker than the rest of the series to date.
Did they just release this today? Lame if so, since Oni was representing Scott Pilgrim pretty heavily at their booth at Comic-Con (got the full color Comic-Con exclusive PLUS had it autographed by O'Malley, but they were out of those pins).
The fourth book seemed to be a little heavier on the relationship, a little lighter on the silliness. I actually liked that quite a bit. I wonder if the fifth book will continue that.

There was a mention on his blog that this cover was using some new silhouetting effect from the other covers. I agree, it looks fantastic.
Ramona is making finger guns. I am intrigued.
There should be Scott Pilgrim parties across the globe at cool little bars with various local bands playing. Pretty damn excited.
February = Scott Pilgrim
March = Watchmen

Is it 2009 yet???

For the last time no.
My priorities are fucked. Burn After Reading and the new Scott Pilgrim trumps all for me.
I can't wait to see how Scott is dealing with living with Ramona.

Does anyone else have a feeling that they're going to break-up at the end of this? So far, the series has been about (among other things) Scott growing up. I think learning to deal with this kind of break-up in a mature way (as opposed to his reaction to Envy) would be a natural conclusion to this story (maybe that's the influence of Annie Hall talking).

Then again, maybe it'll end with him fighting Dr. Wily. You really can't tell with this series. Whatever it is, it'll be great.

radiomaru I may have said this before, but, when the nerds get wind of some of these casting choices, they're going to shit themselves spectacularly.
Spectacular shitting? Intriguing indeed.
The series has to end with Scott and Kim Pine together. It's all being set up.
Why do people want that? It sounds like an awful idea to me. Kim barely has a character at all to begin with. But, even assuming my biases away, the annotated Scott Pilgrim suggests that Kim Pine is a character that appears in all O'Malley's work, so I don't think she's where Scott's headed.

Plus, all the promo/fun Pilgrim art that O'Malley does is focused on Scott and Ramona. Like so: http://www.flickr.com/photos/radioma...20073/sizes/o/
post #40 of 426
Yeah, I don't think that's going to happen. Kim seemed to be getting over Scott, more or less, in the third and fourth books, I thought.

I wonder if Young Neil is going to have any kind of arc at all. He strikes me as the most underused character. Then again, maybe that's for the best, because he looks so much like Scott that everytime their in a panel together I do a double take.
Man, I really shouldn't be looking at this thread when I've only just started reading Vol 3.
Good point, Mike. I'll be sure to invisotext from here on out.
Cool. My own fault though. Makes sense that people would be talking about what has happened up to date. I'm just late to the party.

I think that (spoiler): Young Neil is going to try to throw down against Steven Stills over Knives.

Vegan Shepherd's Pie Recipe?

Can someone post the Vegan Shepherds pie recipe from Vol. 2? I lost my copy, and my wife wanted to make that tonight.
ONE! Cut up the potatos into smallish pieces. Leave the skin on if they look ok.

TWO! Cut up onion, carrot, celery, and garlic as small as possible. Use a food processor, or invite your friends and make them do all the work.

THREE! Boil the potatos 15 - 20 minutes until tender, then mash.

FOUR! Heat the olive oil in a pan, add the vegetables and cook for 15 - 20 minutes until they're very soft. Especially the carrots, which are probably the hardest.

You can add some red wine. That's an option. It makes everything awesome. Your other option is to drink the red wine, which works too.

FIVE! Add the fake meat stuff!

SIX! Add the gravy stuff!

EIGHT! Add some soy milk and stir so everything's a bit saucy!

NINE! Mash the potatos with soy milk and soy margarine. Mmm, mashy.

TEN! Get a 9 x 13 baking dish, or a cassarole or something, and glop the fake meat/veggie mixture in.

ELEVEN! Make a layer of potatos on top! In between, you can optionally add a layer of sliced tomatos, cooked spinach, or corn.

You can serve it as is or bake it in the oven for a few minutes to crisp it up top. A salad on the side would be health-conscious, but we only have so much energy here.

I'm actually an ovo-lacto vegetarian. I won't get powers, but I can have my gelato, and eat it too.
I think if you eat the gelato you're just a vegetarian.
