District B13

Fun little French thriller starring two guys who were previously stunt men, something that I found interesting considering Tarantino's use of Zoe Bell (stunt woman) as one of the leads in Death Proof. Interesting since most of Tarantino's grand epiphanies are usually not his own. But anyways, it's a pretty decent film it you're looking for something for entertainment purposes solely. Lots of action and fight scenes, and even more stunts, which reminded me somewhat of early Jackie Chan films. Check it if you can.

Picked this up on DVD when I was in NYC during X-Mas, after seeing a bunch of YouTube scenes here and there.

Way awesome flick, and all the leads were great. Not much I can say about the action that hasn't already been said, but it's great to know that a four-year-old movie can still show me stuff I haven't seen before.

"Head between cell bars" made my best friend turn pale and look away. Perfect.

The only thing it was missing was a battle royale between the two leads before they teamed up near the end. Other than that, it's a great kinetic way to spend eighty minutes.

They had a cool scuffle when they first hooked up and a decent bout near the end next to the missile.

I wanted something more along the lines of a knock-down drag-out between them at some point at the end. As it is, it's still great fun.

Really fun flick, though it kind of blows its load in the first 15 minutes. Still, I was entertained throughout, and would really like to revisit this one sometime soon. One thing I really liked about the flick is that it has a pretty short running time, so it never overstays it's welcome. It's just a fun, breezy action flick that moves at a good clip, and keeps the viewer entertained (and interested) pretty much the entire time. There's no fat on this flick.

I don't agree with first 15 minutes, but it's definitely top-heavy. For me, the movie loses a lot of its thrill after the casino fight (unless that occurs earlier on than I remember). It's still a worthwhile watch for the rest of the film, but it never comes close to matching the heights of the first two fights.

Yeah, I enjoy this as well (enough to pick it up on Blu-ray for $15). I find that although the first time I watched it, I felt the last 2/3rds were weaker than the first, I kind of enjoy the whole thing now that I know what to expect.

I hate that they show it on cable dubbed though. My copy of the disc only has subtitles in 'English for the hearing impaired' on it so it's telling me dumb stuff about various background noises and whatever as well, which is just kind of distracting.

The action is great and I love the way they just let Leïto out at the end even though he'd decapitated a cop or whatever. Hey, you uncovered international nuke conspiracy, ok I guess that absolves you of having killed a guy.

Holy crap, I forgot about the casino fight. That was pretty God damn great. Still, that first chase scene is so spectacular, and while I feel that it is a great way to open the flick, it's kind of hard for the rest of the proceedings to live up to that. Nonetheless, this is definitely one of the best pure action movies of the last few years.

They need to remake this Stateside so they can blow it up to 147 minutes.

Of course they would lose maybe the most interesting aspect of the film, which is its treatment of the French social system. Not like its any important treatise on the subject, but I thought it was an interesting undercurrent that kept me involved once the action let up in the second half of the film. It's like NEW JACK CITY to LA HAINE's Do the Right Thing.

I agree that the best two action sequences were the first two, before the two leads even meet up, and then the film slowly fizzles out from there. It loses its main villain half-way through the damn movie! Oh yeah, but "The Man" is the real enemy.

This was a pretty fun film, I got a definite EFNY vibe (I'd say it was obvious) but the action was cool, the first chase scene with Belle was inventive, the casino fight just plain awesome.

Has anyone seen B13- Ultimatum yet?

I have read some bad reviews about it, but am waiting for a release here in the States.

Yup B-13 was quite the fun flick. Might have to see this one again when I'm in the mood for light fighting .

When I first saw David Belle in B13, I was all like "how did they get Gyllenhaal to appear in this??" then I found out it was someone who looked a lot like ol' Jakester. Then I found out Belle wasn't doing stunts for Jake Gyllenhaal in Prince of Persia, a movie about a persian prince that does desert parkour starring jake gyllenhaal.

Although finding out that Cyril (played Damien) did the stunts/mo-cap for Tim Roth in The Incredible Hulk was pretty cool.

That little hot chick did hardcore porn too.

But aside from that unnecessary bit of trivia, I love the shit out of this. We had one copy of it on Blu-Ray at work so I snatched as soon as i saw it. I think it was Devin who gave it a good review awhile ago and I decided to check it out. I'm having a hard time convincing a friend to check it out.
