24 Season 7

Don't know if this was ever posted here, but I just saw it for the first time. My enjoyment of Season 1 didn't begin to prepare me for the ever-swelling insanity that this show would become.

Pretty sure it was posted when 24 wasn't delayed for a year. The board revamp might have erased the thread.
When I first saw this trailer months ago I must have been so stoked to see Tony back that I overlooked the presence of Nick Chinlund. Bonus.

As awful as season 6 was, absence does indeed make the heart grow fonder.
The new cast wallpaper that surfaced a few days ago was really bad.
Lots of photoshopped faces.
Tee-hee, you ain't kidding:

Buchanan looks like some sort of super-cool magician. Plus it reminds me that Garofalo is in the cast. Nuts.

But still, more Bob Gunton. Can't argue with that.
Eh, my anticipation for 24 has waned considerably. Season 3 was the last time the series left me wanting for more. The last few seasons have been almost laughably bad.
As I believe i said in an earlier thread, 24's concept has gotten old and ludicrous. The very notion that all these incredible events could actually happen over a 24 hour period is perposterous.
Doesnt look as bad as the Lost season 4 DVD case.
Is that an official promo?
That looks bad even on the Myers-scale.
But how is that restarted production affecting the 10+ episodes already in the can for a year? Are they gonna scrap and start from scratch or are they just continuing filming?
They're not going to scrap whatever has already been filmed of season 7. As long as no one in the cast dies or has had some sort of major facial scarring it shouldn't be hard for them to pick up filming where they left off.

Haven't heard anything lately about the "prequel" TV movie scheduled for the fall. I assume there will be some news about that when FOX unveils their fall lineup.
For better or for worse, this is Die Hard the TV show. I am at peace with that.
I love how they had Kiefer in the beginning.

"Hi. This is a real trailer, not yet another fake fan-made gay one. This is the real deal."

Most of the seasons have felt Die Hard-lite.
I've been finishing off a re-watch of S1 on DVD this week, and really enjoying it (just wish they'd given Diamond Phillips more time before... you know).

Sadly, I've barely cared about the show for the last couple of years. I'd actually never bothered to watch that S7 teaser until just now, but it doesn't do much for me. I mean, Kurtwood Smith is great and all, but otherwise, eh. Die Harder knock-off, and sullying the memory of Soulpatch. I'll watch via downloads and whatnot, but it has definitely lost its luster for me.

Also, I bought the PS2 game on the cheap recently, and I figure I'll play that at some point for the cutscenes. Anyone ever try it?
I remember seeing most of Season 1 and 2 and then losing interest after that.

However I always enjoyed the fact I used to live near the furniture Kim and her friend traipse through in Season 1. That and Jack saving the Northridge Fashion Center from a gas attack in Season 5, I think.

I haven't. Those games always sound great when I first hear about them in development and then they're trashed by everybody I know who has played them once they're released. Same thing goes for the "Sopranos" and "Shield" games.
24 was definitely a cut above those two games because it was at least 75% finished before being shipped as opposed to 19%. I don't remember much about it, but it had some decent-to-good presentation that was ruined by awful controls and graphical glitches.

Anything memorable about the voice work apparently done by Tom Sizemore?
Nothing that I remember. I probably made it a quarter of the way through (I stopped after the "Help Kim escape CTU undetected" mission).
The 24 game was semi-decent. someone is selling it on Amazon for $2.98 plus about $4 in shipping. It'd be worth that if you're curious.

Nope, clearly a road. I'd doubt the Lincoln Memorial people would like to be in the path of a screaming 737.

From all movie sources CNN has the first substantial info on the TV movie:

Quote:
No word on whether such a technique would ever be used on Big "24," which went back into production on April 22 in Los Angeles in preparation for the January 2009 premiere of its delayed seventh season. The show had completed eight episodes of the season prior to the writers strike late last year, including shooting in Washington, D.C.

"Jack Bauer is under Senate investigation for crimes against humanity," Coto explains. But while in Washington, FBI agent Renee Walker brings him in to deal with a series of possible terrorist attacks instigated by former CTU agent Tony Almeida, previously presumed dead. "Jack's thrust into this mystery of how Tony is still alive, and why is he trying to bring down this country?"

To further fill "24's" gap this year, Coto says a two-hour "prequel" TV movie is expected to air this fall, which will bring Kiefer Sutherland's Jack Bauer to Africa and "lead directly into the events of Season Seven."

"He's a soul in turmoil and has been moving from place to place trying to find somewhere he can be at peace," Coto says. "But he winds up in Africa in the middle of a military coup."

Meanwhile, Bauer is subpoenaed to appear before the Senate hearing while in Africa, but doesn't want to go.

"He's not running away from anything," Coto says. "It's because they've taken everything from him, but they won't let them take his freedom."
Sounds too much "Rambo". But I am interested in seeing if a bigger budget helps amp up the action. And the African setting is kinda cool.
One thing that would make me worry if I would really care:
So they produced 8 episodes before the strike. Now they shoehorned this TV movie in, that definitely wasn´t planned before the production on the series started. But it is supposed to "lead directly into the events of Season Seven." That sounds like typical 24 nonsensical retconning of plot points just for the sake of it. Not that this has ever been different since Season 3, but I am looking for the big twist in Episode 9 where the African is the mole, that is actually a good guy, but his girlfriend is the real mole that is actually an impostor for the daughter of the president that happens to be an uncle of Cloe, while giving Jack shelter in Africa to brainwash him to further communicate with Audrey. Or something.

The TV Movie will take place and run before any of season 7 starts airing. I doubt much of what's going on in the movie will have a huge impact on what occurs in season 7.

I actually hope you are right, but this part of the article posted above makes me worry:
Unless they are referring to Jack just coming back from Africa at the beginning of the season that is. But that would be a weak "lead directly to..".
Basically that tells me that by the end of the TV movie he'll be headed back to the states.

This movie is really just a way of sparking interest in a show that will have been off the air over 18 months by the time it premieres. It'll probably run during November sweeps and I bet it's put out on DVD in December, all as a way to build up interest for the January premiere of the new season.
Let´s hope you are right. But I still fear the writers can´t let go of connecting dots no one else can see just for the sake of a twist.

I didn't start watching 24 as it aired until Season 4. So I got caught up in some insane Netflix assisted marathons where I'd often watch two or three episodes per night. Loved Season 1 and really liked Season 2 and 3. At some point during Season 4, though, watching it started feeling more like a bad habit than good TV*. The ever-repeating formula, ludricous plot-twists and Jack Bauer's superheroic abilities were wearing on me because I like new ideas and smart writing. When Season 5 returned, though, I tried to accept 24 for what it is and spent some time basking in its gleeful disregard for reality. But then came Season 6 and through re-using every plot twist from previous seasons and becoming even more detached from the world we live in, I could almost literally see a circle of dead sharks jumping in succession as I became increasingly more pathetic for continuing to watch the shit.

Here's hoping Season 7 will at least be better than last season was. But with Tony alive? I liked his character, but don't know if I can take the bait this time or not. I've long wondered if the people who write and produce this show actually take it seriously. Without the aid of intense mind-altering drugs, how could you?

*I really enjoyed the character Nina Myers and wonder if her departure helped me lose interest in what was going on.

Or William Wallace only in Scotland not Africa.

Some things I glean from that teaser trailer are: 1. They make it seem like Tony is the mastermind behind the events that will take place, in fact as we have seen all too often from previous seasons Tony will turn out to be a pawn and about 10-12 episodes in we'll find out is the man "behind the curtain." 2. Anyone else as tired as me hearing from either Kiefer or the producers that THIS season things will be different and they're "pulling out all the stops!!" I mean i've heard that so many times its almost expected. I believe it when i see it.
Obviously Tony is just the bottom level on whatever evil totem pole they have in store. Jack will catch him, bring him back for "questioning," and find out there is a much bigger threat. But of course their only lead to this newer threat is Tony. Cue the President granting immunity to Tony as long as he works with Jack to stop the real threat, international terrorist Mohammed Fallujah.

Since we never saw his dead body carried away after Buckaroo Banzai stabbed him in the chest with an overdose, I was pretty sure Tony would be back sooner or later. But wouldn't it have been more dramatic if they'd held off on revealing his return for an actual episode?
They already did that in season 4 when he popped up out of nowhere to save Jack's life during a shootout. The show needed a hook to excite folks after the snoozer of a season last year.
I look forward to starting to watch this season and losing interest about week 7 or so. I think I watched all of the first 3 seasons, but I haven't completed a season since then. Usually the first few episodes are pretty good stuff though.

Was it S2 when the first episode had Jack kill a guy at CTU and cut his head off in Episode 1? I remember even thinking at the time "Well, they screwed up there. That was the coolest thing possible and the show can't possibly maintain this". It has it's moments, but it just seems too obvious even they're bored by the end of the season.

Which is why i argue that I'm tired of hearing the same ol' shit from Kiefer and producers that THIS season will be different. Your post will probably be true. My point: SAME OL' SHIT!

Some casting news on the movie:

http://tv.ign.com/articles/876/876423p1.html

Quote:
The cast is taking shape for this fall's 24 TV-Movie, which will bridge the gap between Seasons 6 and 7. The Hollywood Reporter says that Tony Todd (Candyman / Chuck), Gil Bellows (Ally McBeal) and Eric Lively (The L Word) will all be taking part in the next Jack Bauer adventure.

Todd will play the villainous African dictator General Juma, with Bellows cast as a State Department officer and Lively (brother to Gossip Girl's Blake Lively) appearing as the president's son. These three join the already cast Robert Carlyle (The World is Not Enough / Trainspotting).
Didn't know Carlyle was going to be in this. It'll be nice to see Todd as the main bad guy, even though he played a cop on the show a few years ago.

When was this? I hate it when shows do this.
It was only one episode back in season 3. I'm a little hazy but I think he was investigating Palmer's involvement with the death of that old guy in the wheelchair.

It doesn't bug me too much. Shows used to do that all the time. "Miami Vice" always had actors popping up in two different roles over the show's run. Sounds like Todd will get to chew up scenery in the TV movie so it'll be worth having him back. I don't watch "Chuck" so I haven't seen him in anything for a long time.
You should watch Chuck.

Todd is wasted there, only a very minor character, but the show is pretty solid.
I've heard it's pretty good. It's just another one of those instances of too many shows to keep track of and not enough time. Maybe when it hits DVD I'll give it a fair chance.
Looks like Tony Todd is moving up in the world! Last time I saw him was at a comic convention a year or so ago, with a BBQ sauce stain on his sweatshirt.
Was it this shirt? Hope not, it's a lovely garment:

No, what he's wearing is a fashion show compared to the track pants and sweatshirt ensemble I saw.
He saves his best shirts for when he does a convention with Marc Singer:

I gave up and didn't even bother watching the last few episodes of Season 6, but...Janeane Garafello? Are you fucking serious?

I think she's great, it's just so weird to see an outspoken liberal like her on the show. Now I have to watch.
I thought Season 4 was the best season.

Secretary Heller made the first few episodes awesome. It was like partying with Lloyd Bridges from Hot Shots. Then he teams up with Jack to take down the bad guys. They had a mission every episode. It was just a waaaay more focused season. Then Tony showed up to own some bitches. Terrorists, meet the Soul patch.

Season 5 was alright. Season 6 was terrible. The only good parts being the first 4 episodes and the last 2.
well that promo did catch my attention...I may tune in after completely giving up on season 6 5 episodes in.

Tony a villain! No CTU! This show is shaking things up!

(unfortunately, I said that at the beginning of every season starting from 4 on, and the producers never made good on those promises.)
If there's no CTU, how can there be a mole in CTU? Dammit. I can't count on anything any more.
Wait a minute, if at ANY point during this upcoming season, there turns out to be yet ANOTHER freakin Mole inside CTU or any veriation there in I will tune the hell out!! Haven't they beat the Mole thing to death already.
