Simulations

This is for my dad really. He asked me the other day if there were any good tank/fighter plane/helicopter sims for the pc. Since I'm a console person for the most part, I didn't know of any.

Anyone have any good recommendations?

Dad wants to relive the glory days of killin' Charlie, eh?

Microsoft Flight Simulator X is fantastic, if a little hardware-intensive. There's no air-to-air fighting, but plenty of civilian/miltary aviation simulation.

They did put a Combat Simulator once or twice. No tanks, though.

Should it be in a modern setting? I've heard very good things about IL-2 Sturmovik, but they're set in WWII.

Sturmovik was amazing about 5 years ago, it's looking ever so slightly dated now. Saying that, it's realistic as they come - I remember being in awe of the damage your aircraft could receive - don't think it's really been topped since.
