Cool. They were one of the best forgotten from the 90s. Excellent show. Have you seen them before, Dave?

Nope. Been waiting for years, obviously.

I used to hear Diamond Sea on the radio fairly frequently up until a few years ago when I finally gave up on listening to the radio.

They already did. In Stores Now!

Faith No More is reuniting for Coachella this year. I could've sworn there was a FNM thread somewhere on here, but fucked if I can't find it.

The kicker? Looks like Jim "STAAAAAAAAATIIIIIIION" Martin may have taken a season off from growing giant fucking pumpkins to play for them again. Or maybe I read the info wrong. Regardless.

I really wanted to be the first to bring Toad the Wet Sprocket into this thread (damn you, NZ Natural). Toad was a great band that got remembered for the wrong song. If you don't like them, then get fucked.

I don't know if Alice in Chains deserves a spot here. They were big in their heyday, but no one talks about them anymore. I'd argue that they have been more influential on post-'90s rock than any of their Seattle contemporaries (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etc). Too bad their influence was wasted on bands that have been complete, utter dogshit & got off on drop-D tuning because it was quick & easy. What a shame, they were a great band. One of my personal favorites.

Oh yeah, in case I missed it earlier in the thread, Gin Blossoms were fucking awful.

Where did you hear/read about FNM reuniting?

I couldn't find a dedicated FNM thread, but here's an old Angel Dust one, and here's a somewhat recent Patton-specific thread.
It's popped up on a few websites here and there over the last week. Patton said something last year about wanting to do something for the 20th anniversary of "The Real Thing".

Yeah, the Gin Blossoms are/were terrible. However, there are a few good lyrics in their catalog. Doug Hopkins could turn a decent phrase once in a while. Anyway, they're a good example why it's never a good idea to fire the guy who wrote all your hit songs.

Considering the fact he was fired before they became hits, maybe the lesson learned is moot.

And the Gin Blossoms are fine, really. The wrote a good hook or two, as mentioned before, their lyrics weren't insulting, and they had a nice late-era 'Mats vibe, as many bands of their time did. Not really worthy of hate.

Well, for me anyway, I grew up in Tempe and did the music thing post-Gin Blossoms, Pre-Jimmy Eat World, and I got really tired of "jangle-pop" and Robin Wilson's entitlement attitude, so maybe I'm being a bit harsh.

If this turns out to actually happen, I'll be so damn happy. Can't go to the fest, but we always have youtube.

On topic:

A couple of bands from the 90s that never really had hits but that populate my CD shelves (and that I love. Bedhead is tied with Talking Heads for my favorite band of all time. The first track I linked is way faster, louder and poppier than most of their stuff, but gives you an idea of how intricately the guitar parts play off of one another anyway.):

I ended up at a Gin Blossoms show* and they were OK...much better than I anticipated, actually. But since all Milwaukee has to hang its hat on for the most part are the Violent Femmes (good) and The BoDeans (not bad, but just kinda there), and the BoDeans are the band that gets pimped ad nauseam....well, I'd assume I can feel someone from Tempe's pain.

* - FYI, Milwaukee has a big music festival every summer, and the GB were playing; people I was with wanted to go see them, nobody who was really great was playing that night (9 stages of national acts), so I said what the hell - beer is never far and there would be two to three other bands within about 200 yards if they were really awful.

I saw them open for UB40, left midway through UB40's set because I was there for the Gin Blossoms. Because I was 16 and not ashamed of my taste in music.

Even got a t-shirt.
