GTA IV Stories - Page 2

When I totalled my first car, I barely noticed the flames licking out of the front. Having played other GTA games I thought I had just a few seconds to bail out. I slammed the brakes ,got out and watched the damn car burn for over a minute before exploding.
Yeah, I have yet to see a car explode. I've rolled a couple but they just sat there laughing at me while I pathetically sprinted away expecting to be blown to bits

A woman in a Range Rover looking car runs me over. I pull my pistol on her, and she freaks out, and surrenders and comes out of the car. My roommate is watching and says "Why isn't she dead yet Billy?" and I told him I wanted to toy with her then get her with the sniper rifle when she gets around the corner.

I take my aim off her, and she immediately runs into traffic and SPLAT! Ran over and killed by a taxi.

I hope you at least called an ambulance.

A buddy and I were on the back of a bike trying to get to the extraction point. We proceed to try and jump off a ramp to the freeway. We almost made it and were laughing about the fact that we didn't die, only to see Ari shoot an RPG at us from across the map. Blew us up real good.

The matches I played last night in Cops and Crooks were fucking epic. And the last deathmatch was insanely awesome. Thanks to Matches, Darth, Johnny, and everyone else that played last night. EPIC.
Speaking of which, slightly OT, but sorry to those who sent me invites to the mayhem. I'm not touching multiplayer till the weekend at the least.
Well, soon after I started playng the game, and after watching part of an episode of Republican Space Rangers, I decided it was time to get a car. So I walk out of my apartment, and right across the street 2 people get in an accident. Then they begin to fist fight each other. So I casually walk over to one of their vehicles, jump in and drive off. Easiest car jacking ever.
You're missing out Justin. But I shall RPG your face this weekend then.

You will try. /emoanakin

During Deathmatch last night I was running towards the mayhem, and all of a sudden I heard "Oh no! I'm stuck inside this wall! I can't get down!" It was Ari stuck hanging from a rail inside of a wall. The combination of his voice hoping for a non-eventual freedom and his body half stuck inside a wall while I laughed uncontrollably and shot him in the face.

Dear lord, I forgot about that. Thanks, Eric.

I just loved that almost everytime I stole a helicopter, I ended up jumping to my death.

Also, shooting an RPG at 3 guys coming at me while the car next to me is blaring "Goodbye Horses" = AWESOME
post #63 of 408
I'm going to be on tonight around midnight Eastern. I hope to see some of you. Now it's off to work to dream of carjacking and RPGs greeting faces.

When I had to go with Roman to chase down Vlad I got lost for a little while (this is before I realized I could set a waypoint onto a target.) I became frustrated and drove off what I thought was a simple five-foot drop. Ended up being about 60-feet down. Landed right on the top of the car. I'm expecting the mission to be over due to a car explosion, but we get out okay and Vlad is about a quarter of a mile away, stopped. Awesome.

multiplayer is insanely fun. i didnt really expect it to be good, but we finally fired it up last night and its friggin great. highlights.

1. standing in the street with an AK shooting blindly at a car driving full speed at me, and nailing the driver in the head, and the car swerves at the last second. SCORE!

2. friend of mine finally finds an RPG, and we are directing him to the orange dot up around the corner of a building. "ok man its an enemy toast this mofo". he turns the corner, a car is speeding towards him, he's getting shot at, and he nails the car with a rocket. then we notice the car is FULL of people on the other team. 4 kills for the price of one!

3. being the 'boss' or whatever its called during 'cops and crooks' is fun as shit. all the cops have a special icon on their map for you, so its really frantic as you try to avoid em.

4. the best part is just the pure chaos of huge firefights. respawning, picking up an M16 and charging into a firefight involving a motorcycle, 2 cars, RPG's, exploding cars, hell even cops if you are playing free mode. fuckin awesome.

Last night, I found out what happens if you try to burn through the dock's security gate on a bike: Clothesline @ 100 mph.

That shit was epic.
The last stunt jump I found was awesome -- incomplete overpass in either Chase Point or S. Bohan -- including the part where I landed directly on top of a cop car, killing the driver and earning two stars. Outran 'em easily.
I'm really trying hard not to want and kill some of you. Fucking once a month pay schedule can suck my man-sauce.
Was waiting for the train to come, and some chick next to me says something negative about my clothes...

... I walk behind her, shoving her. She stumbles and looses her balance as one of her feet find nothing but air instead of the train platform; landing on the train tracks as the whistle of her impending doom sounds. I don't see her get up, all I see is a blur of train cars and a sound of a human body being pulverized.

That's the other great thing about the physics; when Neiko goes flying through the windshield and smashes into nearby objects (such as concrete barriers), you really feel it. I've had more than a few crashes that had me and whoever was in the room watching wincing in pain.

If you end up upside down in a vehicle, wiggle the analog stick left to right to make the car turn over. I found that out by mistake during a random carjacking.

Funny story about exploding vehicles: it does take forever, but it's interesting to watch. The flames start out small, but soon spread across the car, and lead to the tires exploding. There was one instance where the car caught fire, and some guy was standing right next to it, pulled out his cellphone, and called someone (I was too far away to hear about what, but I like to think he was calling the police or fire dept.) After about 15 seconds, the car explodes and sends him flying back, and I swear I saw him drop his cell phone as he flew back and splattered against the wall of Michelle's house.

Yeah, I kind of love this game.

Firetruck > Faggios....

EPIC GAMES tonight fellas.
So many highlights on my first multiplay trip. You'd think stepping out of a burning car would be the right thing to do...until you get plowed by green team. Not long after I think I got a concussion trying to jump into dave's suv near the end of that round.

I hate all of you.

Great thread.

That's a ringing endorsement if I've ever heard one.

Yeah, I was rapeing it up in that 4 team deathmatch game. I grabbed the Desert Eagle and the M16 and showed all you motherfuckers what the Orange Team is about! Grabbing one of those big ass SUVs and picking up the entire OT and heading into the fight right at the end felt really cool. Walking slowly toward Rob while emptying an entire clip into his soon to be twitching body was also really cool.

Helicopter race was ass, though. Are the cops instantly on the crooks because we've been doing smaller maps? Cause you fuckers were RIGHT ON us that one we played. Like, right on us. Johnny C. (as he is known on the street) had to get his ass OUT of there.

This story was too epic for me to hammer out last night while we were playing, so here it goes:

Cops and Crooks, on the crooks team. I hop in the passenger seat of a car Schlonk (Ari!) jacked, and we speed off following the boss' ride. They end up taking the unfinished bridge and we recklessly follow. Oh shit, here comes the first jump! We make it, but the car is completely out of control and as we see the the end of the bridge and the last jump ramp, we know we are in trouble.

We spin off the bridge, but actually get pretty good air. Hey, we might make it after all! No. Smash into the wall and get dropped like a bad habit into the water. Well shit, I guess we're out of this round. We slowly start climbing our way back to street level. I'm standing at the top of the waterfront building, waiting for Ari to finish climbing the ladder, when all I see is a cop car soaring through the air above us.. silent and beautiful in the early morning light, almost in slow motion.. and then hear it violently crash nearby. Holy shit, did you see th- ..before I can finish the sentence, a second cop car does the exact same thing. I'm laughing hysterically at the sights we just witnessed.

We climb a bit more and I can see one of the cop cars on the other side of a wooden fence from us, completely trashed. Let's get these cop fucks! I exclaim excitedly. I jump on the side of the fence, and as my character is pulling himself up, the next thing I know the hood of the cop car is bursting through the fence beside me and I'm flying 20 feet backwards in a shower of wood and debris. I'm laughing so hard at this point that my eyes are welling up with tears, but thankfully Ari is a deadshot and takes him out before I get my ass run over or shot.

And that's just one out of a dozen hilarious stories I can remember from only a few hours playing with you guys last night. I'm actually pretty choked now that it's my birthday Friday and I'll be out doing stuff instead of being able to play online with everyone all weekend.

That either says a lot about me, or about the game. Or maybe both.

Some highlights last night, for me at least, were:

-The grand entrance of the bus at the end of the coops and crooks game in which I was the boss. For those who weren't there, here's the lowdown: We had barely gotten 50 feet when the cops were on us, so I sprinted away from the scuffle and jacked a car and took off; just when I thought I had made a clean getaway, the cops, with some of my teammates hot on their tail, catch up to me and shoot out my tires, and then I hear someone on the horn talking about how they just nabbed a bus. I pull a 180 and the cops fly right past me, followed by more crooks, and during that skirmish I jacked another car. But the cops were on me again almost immediately, shooting out the tires, so I hopped out and ran for it again. This time I got blasted as soon as I got in, which ended the game. But before we go to the score screen, the bus tears through the scene and hits pretty much everybody.

-During one of the team deathmatches, I was riding shotgun with someone. I was leaning out the window shooting some fuckers when an enemy vehicle sideswipes us going to opposite directions, which resulted in me being fucked up.

Yep, I was in the second cop car.

That was me in the bus. I tend to like big vehicles. Haha.

I think I was in one of those cop cars, but it could have been a different game because I definitely remember getting some air and having to hoof it out afterwards.

I'm chuckling at the racing matches. The Faggio moped race in which I think Calgary and Alex stopped and jacked the cars nearby was legendary, as was that annoying as hell helicopter race. Oh, the amount of cursing!

One moment in team deathmatch particularly stands out: the game has just started and we're running around, finding cover, guns and cars when someone on my team yells out, 'Oh shit! RPG!' Chuckling ensues, but we have a more deadly agenda. I jack a car and go speeding away to find the other team; they follow me under the raised subway only to be met by several RPGs flying out of nowhere. I believe we took down the entire team in one fell swoop.

Fuck, I love this game.
I actually stayed on the Faggio the entire race and placed 2nd, much to my suprise. Leaning forward on those gives you incredible speed.

My favorite thing from the Great Fag Race, besides the firetruck antics and being able to say 'Later, Fags!' as I sped into the lead.. was right near the start of the race. I've driving along minding my own business, two fags infront of me on the left and right. Suddenly the guy on the right bursts into flames. What the fuck is going on? BOOM! Explosion on the left side of the road barely misses the racer there. BOOM! Another explosion in the middle of the road infront of me. BOOM! Another one! What the hell is going on?? Is there some kind of wierd booby-trap system or is this sudden death with random explosions happening?

It wasn't until much later in the race when I picked up some grenades of my own that I remembered they are in the game and I just didn't see them coming down the street at me earlier. Felt like an idiot.

What makes the online modes for this great, I think.. is that I couldn't care less about how I do competitively. Crooks lose the round? Big deal. Placed 6th in the helicopter race - so what? It's just too much damn fun that even if you suck you have a blast.
I was going to try to hold off on the multiplayer until I had a better feel for the game, but this thread is proving too tempting. After Lost tonight, I'm in.
ONE OF US!

Seriously. I get why people want to play single player first, but multiplayer is way too much fucking fun. I'll be on after Lost as well. We need to have more epic battles of Cops 'n Crooks.
FINE. I'm in. Around 7 or 8. Happy, motherfuckers?
Word. And you will be happy once you feel the joy of an epic chewer match in this game. Nothing so far has come close, even the great days of Rocket Race.
I actually was more a fan of the Team Deathmatch games last night. That one where it was basically that one stretch of pseudo-highway where no pedestrian survived was legendary. Fuck, I wish Rockstar could've put a saved match thing in this like Halo 3.
I have to agree. It's the most fun I've had playing on my 360 online yet. It's fucking seamless, too.
The team stuff is fun, but for some reason I die laughing everytime the cops (with half the team stuffed in a car) come screaming down the road at us. But the TD with the 4 different teams was fun as hell. Cannot wait for more games tonight.
I was hesitant because of how spectacularly awful I was at Halo 3 multiplayer, coupled with the fact that nobody I ever played with seemed to be having fun (Granted, I never got in on any Chewer-only matches).

But Faggio races? How could that not be greatness?
Seriously man, I guarantee you'll have a blast with us. It's hard to hear what people are saying because there is so much laughing. Just be prepared for renegade busses or fire engines to be coming your way. Why? Because that's how the Headcheese rolls.
Here is a story, I played it, then went out for a drive.
I'll probably be in tonight, too. This shit sounds like too much fun to miss. I just sent out a bunch of friend requests, though I'm sure I missed a bunch of people.

Same here. My idle youth was misspent on games that weren't GTAIV.
I'll be on at around 7-7:30 PM Pacific.
SIGH. I, too, am living vicariously through this thread. I still have PS2 games that need playing (such as GTA:SA) so buying a PS3 just for one game would be irresponsible, right?

Although, when a GTAIV commercial came on during the Wizzle's game last night my wife actually said with some awe in her voice: "The actual GAME doesn't look that good, does it?"
