UK Chewers - where are ya?

I know there is more of a UK presence on the boards these days so here be a thread to sound off and say what part of Blighty you live.

Me - Bristol in the giant housing estate known as Bradley Stoke.
Isn't Sackley in Manchester? And Spike is in Leeds.
I think there are about half a dozen regular chewers from the UK here. I'm pretty sure Bees is from the UK and I know that Xagrath and Sackley as well as being good people are Brit.

Me I live on the outskirts of Bradford just near Leeds, which is handy due to the National Film Museum in Bradford and ridiculous amounts of film festivals in Leeds.
Yeah, I'm in Mancunia - East Didsbury to be precise. If you know the Parrs Wood complex, I'm right around the corner.
I live in the Blackpool area.
For all you non-brits, imagine Vegas without the casinos. Or the glamor. Or the mobsters. Or the Hookers that you want to spend money on.
Or the weather.

Still, have you ever been to Morecambe? A town overrun by pod-people that wishes it was Blackpool.

I think I've seen this. Don't you guys have a roller coaster and effectively look like the UK version of Atlantic City? Plus you had a "screwball" comedy with Oliver Platt.
Sackley: Morecambe is basically what Pool will look like in 20 years.
Hocken: You're pretty much bang on

Pity me as i live in glorious Swindon!

But Swindon gave us Billie Piper and that makes up for everything, including the Oasis.
I realize the moment I get to Manchester, I'm going to be very very confused.
Why's that? The accent?
No, the accent is facinating as hell to listen to (Thanks Cracker and Blue Murder *Thumbs up*) I just mean geographically. Not to mention I can't for the life of me find a travel guide just for Manchester.
One of the worst sign-posted cities in the country to drive around, frustrating as all hell. But it makes up for it by having great public transport! Plus, the centre of town is pretty small, so you can get from one side of the city to the other in a few minutes. Its a decent place, but you need to know where to go and where not to after dark. *cofcofsalfordcofcof*
post #15 of 840
I'm from Liverpool, a little place on the outskirts called Fazakerley although I live in the town centre now.

Its actually sunny here today as well! I'd forgotten what that was like...
Are you actually coming to Manchester at some point? And if so, what for?

I've heard this, so would spending a week there be too much for just for that city then? And I wouldn't be driving anyways. Mind you this trip is far far off into the distance. As for what for? Well I do want to check out the UK and Ireland but break it up into parts so I'm not rushing into things.

I figure I'll start with Manchester and maybe Scotland with that trip also (It would be longer than a week, that's for sure). At the moment the trip is set for August of '09(Need to save money and the dollar is sucking some serious balls in relation to the Pound), to coincide with Pride so I can work it into something that's going on.
I'm in the cultural monstrosity that is Milton Keynes, trying to create... well, a little culture.
I wouldn't say a week would be too much, but you should probably get to see Edinburgh and, if you can afford it, definitely have a couple of days in Dublin while you're over this way. Dublin would be a great way to finish your trip, its a frickin ace, chilled city. A couple of days in Manchester would be enough. Liverpool's just up the road and that has its own charms too.
You mentioned Edinburgh, what about Glasgow then?
I'm in Glasgow. It's pretty cool. There's more going on in general than in Edinburgh for 11 months a year, give or take the world's largest Arts Festival.

Cinema-wise Glasgow has an annual Film Festival (in February), an IMAX and a couple of pretty good rep/arthouse Cinemas - http://www.gft.org.uk has a regular Psychotronic Cinema night, which is pretty cool.

You also won't be left wanting for Bars, Clubs, Restaurants, Shops, Casinos etc. Whichever is your bag. There are several excellent music venues too. Certainly, there's more than enough going on to keep your attention away from the fact that it will almost certainly be raining when you visit.

I'm from Derby. Unfortunately.
I used to live in Ashbourne, when I was about 11. Derby was an adventure, back then (it had an Our Price, when Ashbourne only had Ritz video). I realise how misguided I was now.

I think there should be some sort of UK chewers get to gether in the near future...
I'm in London, just moved from Fulham to Chiswick.

The only movie star from this area that I know of is Gary Daniels, and he barely counts.

Some bright spark (himself??) gave him the nickname 'The physique from Chiswick'
I admit, the only London neighborhood I know at the moment is Wilsden North and that's because Peter Davison works as a DC over there.

Could be good. Obviously the closer to the North/Midlands the better, but its not hard for me to get to London as I have friends there, Liverpool too. Anywhere else, shit I'd be up for it provided it ain't too expensive.
If there's beer, count me in
I thought if it's a British gathering, beer would just automatically be there.
No, it's more likely tea, crumpets, tank tops and pipes
post #31 of 840
tank tops as in clothes or some kind of cookie?
I suppose the best time would be Frightfest at the end of august. But that has been proposed many times (often by the late, lamented Dan Whitehead) and nothing ever comes of it.

Of course I would say that because it is in london.
Frightfest is probably too expensive and too southern a proposition for most of us. Seen as we all seem to be Northern it'd make sense to maybe meet at the cinema in the Meadowhall and go for some drinks afterwards. I mean Meadowhall's about as central in the North as you can get and it's got train lines which run INTO it. Plus the cinema ain't half bad.
Fit Like loons?
im from Dundee, Scotland. anyone else fae up North?
Everyene should come to Frightfest.
I would if I had idea of where to stay in London for three days that wouldn't bleed my wallet dry.
Apparently, out-of-town gorehounds stay in some halls of residence in Holborn. Cheap university accomodation, empty for the summer - good on the wallet. Just a heads up...
Could be feasible... What's the lineup like?
Couldn't say. The boys are in Cannes now where they pick up the bulk of their programme. There's some good stuff already in the bag though. All hush hush, but a look at the UK film releases for Sept-Nov you can probably find a couple that'll turn up.
I'm from Manchester too!
Hey aggroman! Whereabouts?

ETA: Did you get mugged by Glaswegians/beaten up by the police last night?
I'm from Herts. Which is right next to Essex.

Cameraman by trade, and also work as a video support guy for a college's TV studio.

Will definitely be attending Frightfest.
Well Greater Manchester anyway, in Atherton, about 17 miles away but i'm in the city quite a lot, Printworks Odeon is my regular cinema

Was in Piccadilly gardens on Tuesday afternoon when they were setting up for the match, was full of Russians asking directions and Scots drinking cans of Tenants!
Another Bristol chewer here. Stoke Park.

Ken, are you going to one of the Indy midnight shows? I booked at the Odeon before the Vue screenings listed. I'm convincing myself that it'll be better at the Odeon. Less people, old school presentation as in '89.
I'm from south east London, but I work just off of Oxford Street in central London...

I didn't realise that there were so many uk chewers around, this thread feels like an embassy...
I'm from Charlton but currently live near Middlesbrough, still a Cockney at heart!

I actually saw it in London - I was up that way visiting the in laws.

Sadley the beer beforehand did nothing to improve the quality of the film.
This is awesome...never thought there'd be so many other Brits here. Good a place as any to post for the first time I guess. I'm from Oxford, "seat of learning" as they say. More like "arse-end" of the UK, trust me.
Rich here from Riding Mill (tiny village in Northumberland in the North East of England)

I enjoy films that involve some kind of conflict solved via extreme firearm related violence. Also Zepplins and The Car, who doesn't like The Car? Just back from a night out, hence the randomness.
Chadwell Heath, East London. Really it's more like Essex but it's cool.
Can get in to London quite easily, and can get to The O2 with 45 minutes so it's good for concerts and their giant multiplex (largest digital screen in the UK!).
Anyone going to the Empire Movie-Con on the Southbank NFT this weekend?
