I don't know how many of you read Deadspin since it's sort of just Defamer with sports but I came across this article today and just couldn't stop laughing.

But it also prompted me to start this thread asking if anyone knows of any book that has more anecdotes like these. I've been trying to find a good sports book to read, preferably on baseball, that would contain more stuff like the what the article has.

I don't have any suggestions along those lines but it's interesting you bring up Deadspin. I caught an HBO program last night with Bob Costas discussing how the media covers sports in the Internet/cable/talk radio age. One of the guests was the guy who runs Deadspin. Another guest was the author of Friday Night Lights Buzz Bissinger. Bissinger was ripping the Deadspin guy to pieces for essentially corrupting sports journalism. Made for entertaining television.

I can't find the Bissinger stuff on youtube, it'll be there soon. In the meantime here's Costas quoting from the Deadspin comments area:

I think there's articles on the Bissinger thing on Deadspin itself.

Yeah, that link has the part of the show I was looking for. Thanks.

I admired Bissinger's rage, though I'm not sure I agree with his "sky is falling" attitude. It's not just sports. There are exploitative blogs for every facet of life. They're not going anywhere and I don't think you can judge online coverage in general based on a few sites that are designed to titillate instead of inform.
