| Free Comic Book Day is now upon us. For me, this marks a culmination for me, for when I took over the Comics Department, for better or worse, I said that all I wanted is to put together the best Free Comic Book Day ever, and I think I have done just that. I have six people coming out to give talks, sell unique things, and sign stuff, and I think everyone will find something they will enjoy. SOme people will be at Aurora while others will be here at Criminal. Here is the schedule: Aurora 1pm: Andrew Greenberg - co-creator of the "Fading Suns" roleplaying and computer games and was one of the original developers of White Wolf's "Vampire: The Masquerade." He will be giving a talk "What Makes Good Game Design" for 30 minutes, followed by a 10 minute Q&A. (I will be doing my best to attend this one.) 3pm: Wes Eastin - Writer and Producer of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid movie, which is going to rock so damn hard, will be giving a talk on adaptations for 30 minutes, followed by a 10 minute Q&A. Criminal 1pm: Shannon Hahn - Owner and creator of the "Plushybutt" line of plush toys. She will be giving a talk on her experience starting her own business for 20 minutes, followed by a 10 minute Q&A. Her toys are very cute, handmade, and each one is one of a kind. She also does commissions! 2pm: Robert Venditti - Writer of the cyberpunk comic "Surrogates" will be signing and leading a discussion on his comic and the upcoming movie adaptation starring Bruce Willis for 30 minutes. If you haven't read "Surrogates" yet, you need to. 2:30pm: Joseph D. Carriker, Jr. - Developer for White Wolf's Vampire: the Requiem will be giving a talk on "How to Run a Successful RPG" for 30 minutes followed by a 10 minute Q&A. I know that this is one I will definitely be paying a lot of attention to. 3:30pm: Mark Stancil - Owner of Terminus Media will be giving a presentation entitled "How to Make Your Own Comic Book" for 1 hour followed by a 20 minute Q&A. This is also one I am really looking forward to. Who doesn't want to make their own comic? Needless to say, I am very excited. Not only do I have all of these great and talented people coming here, I have thousands and thousands of comics to give away. The only way this Free Comic Book Day is going to be better is if you show up. See you May 3rd! James |
