From his tour manager, posted to the Waits mailing list:

Subject: The first announcement....

Tune in and view highlights from the press conference held by musician
and iconoclast Tom Waits to announce his summer tour "Glitter and
Doom" on Monday, May 5 at www.tomwaits.com beginning at 9am EST.

Not only is Tom announcing a tour, but a website as well !

This is one of several announcements in the next week.

I would be excited, but I doubt he'll come anywhere near Austin again. Thank goodness for YouTube and rampant concert taping!

For everyone else, you should see this man perform while he's still young enough to do so.
"Austin", "Again"????

Try being a Waits fanatic living in Australia - he hasn't been out here in 2 decades.

I've all but had to make peace with the probability I will never see the man live.

Its an uneasy peace tho I tell ya.

If he plays Vancouver but not here you might have a couch surfer for a day or two.

Come on, Chicago! That's...relatively near where I live. I'm keeping my fucking fingers crossed. As much as I hate anything involving crowds these days, it would be worth it to see this man live.

I believe he usually plays the Chicago Theatre, so it's assigned seating. You don't need to worry about more than two or three of the Great Unwashed rubbing up against you.

(Oh, and Troy, we just got a new couch this weekend. You're more than welcome to it.)
Tulsa??? Jesus fuck, that's close enough for me!
I can't believe we're going to get our second Waits show here in less than two years. It's on my mom's birthday, too!

Which will mean absolutely nothing to her other than I'll meet her for a birthday lunch rather than dinner.
Phoenix is the closest he's getting to LA? Blast!
Can't believe he's coming back to Atlanta. I'd thought he was on a 30-year cycle with this town. July 5 it is. Beautiful.

Thanks for proving me wrong, Tom. Houston AND Dallas? Nice.
Atlanta! Fuck yes!
I'm going to try to get tickets to both Phoenix shows. This is on my very short list of "Must see before I/they die".
Not only is he not coming to Chicago, the St. Louis show is the day I'm flying to Vegas. Fuck. That.

Same here. Any word on when tickets go on sale?

My thoughts exactly. Prior to the last tour, I was pretty sure I'd never get to catch him live and I'm just ecstatic about getting another chance to see Tom Waits perform. It'd be amazing if Marc Ribot was part of this upcoming tour, but I'm guessing he's doing the Plant/Krauss shows this summer(?). Anyway, I'm really hoping the ticket prices will be reasonable enough like last time so I can actually swing this.
Here's the early word on ticket prices:

http://www.tomwaitsfan.com/
Looks like tickets will be available on the 17th based on the smidgen of info on Ticketmaster for Columbus show. Tickets will go on sale Sat, 05/17/08 10:00 AM. They will be $82.50

Any PayPal donations thrown my way will be much appreciated.

No way I can afford a ticket right now and I'm in for some regret. Curses!
90 bucks per show, but Tom is doing his best to keep scalpers out of this by making the show ticketless. You have to have your ID and the credit card you used to pay for the ticket in order to get in. I'm sure some scalpers will figure a way around it, but credit for making it difficult for them. Hopefully it will make it a tad easier to buy tickets on Friday.
He's coming to Dallas and Houston but not Austin? Dammit!
Got my tickets! Got good seats! I'm poor now!
Just scored 7th row in Atlanta. I've been kicking myself for the last two years for missing the Tabernacle show, so this should hopefully make up for it.
I went for the (relatively) cheap seats, but I'm in.
At least Ticketmaster.com sent me codes for two free songs off iTunes. Their way of saying "Thanks for letting us touch your butthole. Don't tell anyone."
Seriously, a $15.95 convenience charge on each ticket? That's a little extreme.

But so convenient!
Yeah, between the price, and the three-hour-after-midnight drive home from Houston, on a Sunday, I had to pass. Sadness.

In general, Ticketmaster's fees are absurd.

But in this case, I'll take them over the eBay gouging that would otherwise be occurring.
After being told by somebody else that his dates weren't selling out I thought I'd get tickets to both shows easily. I ended up happy that I got tickets to one of the shows, both of them sold out in about a minute in Phoenix apparently. There was only a single price for any seat, so it was just dumb luck which seats you got if you got through on Ticketmaster. Oh well, 30 years away and he's finally back. $105 with all the fees included doesn't seem all that bad when you think of it that way.

Since $105 "doesn't seem all that bad" - I'd be more than happy to accept a ticket to the Atlanta show as an early birthday gift from you. The fact that you don't even know me is irrelevant. Isn't it more important that I, a longtime Waits fan, get to see him perform than you being able to buy a bunch of DVDs that could just as easily be rented through Netflix sometime?

Yes?

Just wanted to say how great the Atlanta show was. Huge energy. Make it Rain, November, and Innocent When You Dream were highlights for me.

Yeah, that was fucking great. Among the best I've seen him play. '9th & Hennepin' was killer, too. Loved a lot of Omar Torrez's small guitar bits and the reed player (I'm criminally forgetting his name now) was such a great addition after the last few guitar-centric tours.

(And for those who didn't get to see him this time out, there are quite a few audio bootlegs and a pretty good full DVD of the St. Louis show on Dime already.)
I was so disappointed when my check didn't come in on time for me to get tickets for this. I'm glad to hear that it was so good.
Thanks for bumping the thread, I'm bored at work and clicked on the Anti.com Waits blog to find this gem.

God, I love this guy. Can't wait to see him live one of these days...
You and I can start a two person campaign to get him to come out to LA. I guarantee two tickets sold already!
It sure is funny to see all the guys in hats lounging around at a show like this. In their own little social world each of them are probably unique.

Now now, depends on what kinda hats we're talking about here. Porkpie, cowboy, Kangol, conductor, or baseball caps?
Porkpie, mostly. There were porkpie hats as far as the eye could see. Kind of made me wish I'd worn a sombrero.

Amazing show.
I forgot to mention. After I got my ticket, my family vacation plans clashed and I had to give my ticket away. So I paid the $105 to not even go. To add insult to injury, my family vacation was to Columbus, OH to see in-laws and we left there a scant 3 days before Tom Waits would have played there. So I just missed him on both ends, and had a ticket I didn't use.

I loved that part of the pre-show, seeing five guys with the same hat converge together for a porkpie pow-wow and then dissolve back into the crowd.

If anyone is interested, the entire show is available for free from NPR at
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=92916923[/URL]

It can also be downloaded from itunes at NPR all songs considered podcast.
