It's true. MOst of the mass produced stuff anywhere is crap. Hell, even in Canada our mass produced stuff is crap.

But to defend our beer if you think it isn't all that you clearly haven't had something from Big Rock or Unibroue.

I had never thought of it like that, but that's a great fucking point. And it's about Goddam time, 70 some odd years later.

Yes I have. Deschutes or Rogue as as good if not better. I have also drank extensively in the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, and Poland. There's some top shelf beer there.

Rogue Dead Guy Ale is awesome, and if your a fan of that, check out the Stone IPA or, if you really like hops, the Stone Ruination IPA (which costs like $12 bucks for a sixer, but is truly a great beer.)

Other great non-watered down American beers: Sierra Nevada (our of Cali), Flying Dog (the brand with the Ralph Steadman paintings, out of Colorado), and Dogfish Head (out of Delaware). Dogfish Head just released a beer based on the brewing methods of the Egyptians, and I gotta say its a great tasting beer thats 13% a.b.v., so your gonna get plenty fucked up, even if it costs $11 bucks for 4 of em. If your looking for something a little cheaper, try the Dogfish Head 60 minute IPA.

Also, I gotta throw in the Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale, just because its the perfect name for a beer.

In a fit of ethnic pride, I tried some Polish beers available in the States (Zywiec & one other whose name escapes me), and didn't like them at all. Just curious: what are some good Polski suds, and are any of them available in a relatively unadulterated form here?

I'll agree on the Deschutes but will disagree with Rogue. They have some very nice beer but nothing on par with McNally's Extra or Maudite. Of course at the end of the day this is all subjective to personal taste.

And, really, racism and eugenics aside, neither Canada nor the US can compete with Germany or Austria in terms of quality beer.

Subjectively speaking, I beg to differ with that last statement. Just as a matter of personal taste, I generally don't like German beer. But I love Canadian beer. Unibroue is great stuff, and becoming fairly readily available. Even mass produced Canadian stuff, while bested by craft brewed stuff from anywhere most of the time, is much better than American mass produced stuff.

I will concede that mass produced Canadian beer bests mass produced American beer. Iggy, did you try the Zywiec Porter? Much better than the lager. I prefered Okocim but did like Zywiec, too. Those are mass produced owned by Heinikien and Carlsberg anyway. There are scads of beers in Poland I have yet to see in the USA and believe me we have two quailty import bottle shops here in Seattle and I check them both frequently. I would love to find Piwo Grodziskie a top fermented beer brewed from smoked wheat. Again it is all subjective.

Sierras Nevada's gone to heck. So, sadly, has Fat Tire. And if you're going to mention Stone - whose whole catalog is great - you have to mention Bear Republic and their IPA.

Only ever seen Zywiec lager. I'll keep my eyes peeled for the porter.

Well, I just picked up 10 of Milwaukees Best Ice 16oz. for $6 bucks. Buried on the bottom shelf, all the way in the right corner.

Its time for some colon cleansing!
