Mirror's Edge - Page 2

I'm working on getting codes for you fellas, but we'll see if it happens!
Just played through the demo. I'm actually considering giving it another go in a few minutes, almost salivating that Alex might score time trial codes.

I really, REALLY hope there's enough meat on the full game's bones to justify a day one purchase. Because I'm kinda crazy in love with the demo.

By the way, in terms of comparisons for the art style? I think I've got it.

I've heard that the singleplayer campaign is only six or seven hours long, but fuck it, after the disappointment of Far Cry 2 and Fallout 3 I'm ready for a focused, linear experience. I really enjoyed the demo, as short as it was.

Yeah, I finished the demo and was like, "Ooh, time trial ... a way for me to get a bit better hang of the controls." Then it says that I'd have to pre-order to unlock it.

I don't want to go through that annoying 'learn the moves' section again so I probably won't try it again until I can rent the game. Or Alex gets some codes.

You can skip the tutorial from the pause menu, but then you're left with the paltry five minute long prologue bit. The time trials add a bit of replay value (to a demo, yeah), since you really have to work to get so much as a bronze ranking on them.
I'm looking forward to eventually being able to flow through the levels without a pause or missing a jump. Based on my performance so far it's going to take quite a while to get there so I don't see any medals in my immediate future.
Im not sure how this will hold up on a a whole complete game experience. Granted, its super innovative and worth a play. If they could get on the ball with some DLC it could keep this game alive. It wouldnt have to be anything spectacular, maybe some MGS-VR mission type things.
Multiplayer tag would be fun. Or really annoying.
I really dug the demo. Reminded me of a first person prince of persia game. Minus the persian setting, ofcourse. I think getting used to the control's and combat and being able to run, jump and fight continously without a pause or hitch woud be a really cool feeling.
Just tried the demo, and here's hoping the full game has some great set pieces and alternate routes that really take advantage of the game's concept and gameplay...a FSP "Prince of Persia" is really the best compliment and I can give to the game.
My performance in this demo put me in mind of the scene in Hot Fuzz where Simon Pegg hurdles the garden fences with ease and aplomb and then Nick Frost tries to follow.

I was Nick Frost.

It looks great and the movement is smooth, but as a guy who loathes the platforming parts of first person shooters, I can't muster a whole lot of enthusiasm for a game that seems to be entirely composed of them. Plus I'm not great with heights to begin with and I was bordering on vertigo in a few stretches of the demo. I see what they were going for, and it looks well executed, but in a season this packed with titles I'm gonna have to give this one a pass.

Getting home tomorrow, so I'll get these codes out to you bastards by tomorrow night. Make sure to include who you are on here, I'll hook you guys up first.
Dammit, I'm playing on PS3! I'll definitely d/l this for 360 if I get a key.

I can't wait for the next Mirror's Edge contest.

Wow.

Nice contest, Alex, and it's hard to believe that this game is coming out next week. That Left 4 Dead demo ended up having far more replay value than I thought it would thanks to the AI director, so that and a Gears of War 2 rental will keep me entertained until Mirror's Edge is out. This is truly an insane month for games.
It's coming out next week? God dammit. I don't have time for all this awesomeness.
I was impressed by the demo, but I suck so badly at it, I might actually hold off till it's Goozexable. Rock Band 2 alone is taking up too much time right now as it is because of my sucking.

Just sent out a whole bunch of emails. Got about 8 more codes left, so shoot me a pm or an email if you want one.

Downloading it myself right now, I look forward to kicking all your asses in it.
What. the. hell.

How in the world could a guy get 46 seconds on the training level? I barely broke the two minute time. There has to be some kind of trick right after the balance beam but I can't see what it is. I wish there was a way you could just watch faster times outside of seeing their ghost haul ass into the distance.
There's gotta be a way to get across that one ledge after the double jump that's faster than inching by. That's the only place where I could possibly shave some seconds.
I think there's a way to skip all the way from right after the balance beam up to the zip line. The fastest time does a running wall jump on the barbed wire wall on the right but then I lose the trail. There's got to be some way to scale that wall under the zip line but I just can't see it.

I don't do too bad on the other time trial level but I'm not super good yet. I'm thisclose to the two star ranking. I'm sure there's some faster way to run up the stairs at the beginning but I can't think of it. Trying to wall run seems like it would be wasted effort.
So I've got the pre-order code (thanks Alex!), but I'm not seeing where to enter it. When I select "Play Time Trial" up pops the message "Your gamer profile does not have the correct permissions to access Xbox LIVE functionality." Do you need to have a paid, Pold membership to open the time trials? I tried signing up for a new, free, 1-month Silver membership, but that didn't make a difference.
Not sure if this has been mentioned, but you can skip training in the demo by pressing "start" and selecting "skip training" which takes you directly to the fully playable portion of the demo.

I couldn't even download the demo without upgrading to a Gold account so I assume you need a Gold subscription to access the time trial mode.

That's because demos become available to Gold members a week before the rest of us scum. I wasn't able to download it until yesterday.

How the hell does Microsoft get away with charging people to use the multiplayer content on their games when Sony doesn't, anyway?
Because Microsoft provides the matchmaking and server APIs to the developers, and Sony makes devs write their own.

I'm liking the PS3 controller for this a helluva lot more than the Xbox's.

I can't seem to get more than one star in each of the time trial modes, though.
The first reviews are out there. The game's apparently too short, and the story inconsequential, but the gameplay itself is getting nothing but high praise.

When that first price drop happens, I'm all over this.

That fee buys you certain title & DLC exclusivity.

It's a smart system.

Really? I didn't like dying all the time on the balance beam due to Sixaxis controls - so I ended up ordering the 360 version instead.

btw, thanks for the code dude.
Alex, did you get a PS3? Except for the balance beam part, I prefer the PS3 controller for this game also. The Suxaxis doesn't work and the stick is a little too loosey-goosey.

Yeah, when did that happen?

Present?

Yep, threw up my PSN name in that thread, too. (Same as 360) Don't have any games for it except Pain, though. Too busy with a lot of review copies.

But yeah, I love the way the PS3 one works for jumping and sliding- the trigger doesn't work as well on the 360. I hate Sixaxis controls, though.

Edit: Yeah, wedding present from the Mrs. She's a good one.

Don't know what to make of the Gamestop pre-order bag...the wife can claim it.

Game so far is fun...having played it at on my work 360 - I'll need to replay the first third again at home for the achieves. I found myself dying so often during my first run through, but thankfully the checkpoint/reload system has been generous. I find myself laughing at how often I fail.

The first time you discover the LB - RB combo and the results (or L1 then R1 for PS3'ers)...I found myself performing that sequence of moves just to see how badly I could fuck up Faith.

You kiddin'? This is the first practical preorder incentive I've ever received. It's a messenger bag! Sure, it's not the greatest messenger bag, but it was free! I was genuinely surprised when the cashier plopped it down on the counter. Just think of all the crap that can be stored in there. Bag!

I can take or leave the game, though. I think I'll end up getting more time in with that Banjo Kazooie game than this, even. Oh, well. Free bag.
Too bright and yellow for my tastes guy. Wife did not hesitate when she saw it...I hope the strap holds up for her so the laptop doesn't get broken some point down the line.

Nobody's doing time trials on this game? I checked the leaderboards and nobody's on there....of course there are too many fucking games to play right now.

Found it. You can run up the duct work on the right side before you make the swinging jump to the wall pipes. You need to run up the ducts and do a quick turn. There are platforms you can run on hidden behind the tarps/signs. Cut 44 seconds off my previous time for that section.

I wish I could compare friends list times on the demo since that's all I'm playing until Christmas.
It's absolutely great that you can download other people's ghosts and race them. I don't know if it's possible but I wish there was a way you could download a ghost and watch their run through their eyes instead of seeing the red figure dart out of your sight.

My take- http://chud.com/articles/articles/17...DGE/Page1.html

I can see myself playing through those time trials quite a bit over the next few months... I got hooked on the first few, trying to get all 3 stars.
Good review, Alex. I'm still pretty excited for this game. Christmas needs to hurry up and get here.

I'm waiting on the PC release. I had a very long dream last night about this. I was one of the runners and all of my friends were out to get me. I lasted 2 days before they got to me!

I recently played through it on PS3 thanks to Gamefly and I had far more problems with the combat than the platforming. I really enjoyed any level that had no cops in it, except that level near the end climbing that scaffolding to get the to top of the building that was under construction...that level can go to hell. But the combat was just so tacked on feeling that I didnt have much fun with it, I mostly did the same slide-kick followed by the three punch combo the whole time just to get it over with.

Gamestation has it as deal of the week: http://gamestation.co.uk/Xbox360/Act.../Mirrors-Edge/

What a bargain! PAL only, but that works for me.

Gotta love this customer review:
